ghts. hi. weather alert tops our news right now. we can see some wind blowing. we have the wind kicking up. i'm alan gionet. a red flag warning right now as a front is bringing us much cooler temperatures soon. we want to go back to the weather center and dave aguilera is working on all of it. >> let me take you right to the map and show you. we have a big low pressure at

leading out into colorado here. it will move into the central rockies during the day today. i'm looking for that cold front to arrive here later today. most likely between 5:00 and 7:00 tonight. in fact, the cold front, you can see it on the weather map here. lots of clouds in the west. it is all pushing in. now ahead of it, we have tremendous wind that in from the south. look at these wind gusts. castle rock 31 miles per hour. 56 in winter park as these winds are racking up here and as a result we have a red flag warning noon through 8:00 p.m. from denver through trinidad because of the wind. we'll make it into the 80s today, but a whole different ballgame tomorrow. fall will punch us in the face

maybe some snow for some of us. >> baseball, football to hockey. >> maybe. >> thanks. new developments right now in the deadly shooting that killed a well loved doctor in centennial. prosecutors are considering seeking the death penalty for his killing now. ken atkin son died when he was shot trying to come to the aid of a neighbor. she survived and so was another neighbor who was another hearing this morning, right? >> reporter: that is correct. the arraignment was continued for a later date. it was very short but we did learn that the prosecution is considering the death penalty. we talked to the attorneys and asked them what they look for in a case like this to determine if it is appropriate. >> one is the manner of the murder, how it occurred.

risk of death. those are the types of factors. >> reporter: he is facing 12 felony counts including one count of first-degree murder after deliberation. he is accused of shooting and killing dr. atkinson and wounding two women, one of them his wife. it was a quick hearing this morning. family and friends of the doctor, they were supporting him. lyons is a ledged to have killed dr. atkinson and his family was in e the people intend to be here through the entire court process. although he was seenly deemed competent to stand trial, today the judge advised his defense attorneys they have to say if they will have that. the prosecution has 63 days

must be done after the arraignment. the arraignment is scheduled for november 21st. jamie leary, cbs4news of the >> thanks very much. happening today, a 16-year- old is behind bars now on a million dollars bond accused of badly attacking a 71-year-old woman. jeffrey collins faces attempted murder charges. he was found in broomsfield. they tracked down he appeared in the juvenile court this morning but the judge does expect him to be charged as an adult in that case. a mother is telling us her story of how her windows were shot out with her two-year-old in the back seat of her car. this is when she moved out of the way of two speeding vehicles yesterday. she is one of ten people whose cars were shot at in boulder county. three people are under arrest. >> i heard a pop and a crash

is okay. police believe the suspects were using pellet or bb guns. they caught up with three people in a stolen minivan after putting stop sticks under the tires when it was parked at a store. they took off in the van but only got about a mile on the flattened tires. then two men were arrested. they are due in court this afternoon. third person taken into custody at the same time under age night of lawful protests in charlotte with a curfew now in place. police didn't push the issue last night when people strayed beyond it. it followed two nights of violence after the deadly shooting of keith lamont scott by a police officer. they said they should be released, but the timing is important. >> i'm not going to put out one

the full story. >> witnesses say he was unarmed. the family has given the new york times a video recorded during that shooting by scott's wife. you cannot see the actual shooting in that video, but you see him on the ground afterwards. you hear some gunshots and before the gunshots you hear her yelling at police that he has a traumatic brain injury and you can hear police repeatedly tell scott to gun. a tulsa police officer now faces a manslaughter charge in the shooting of a black man in that city. the family of the man shot is grateful for the charges but anxious about what happens next in the legal process. we know the history of these cases. we know she has been charged

we're demanding full prosecution. >> the coroner's office said he died from a gunshot wound. pcp was found in his car. an attorney for the officer said shelby believed he was reaching into that vehicle. police images show the window closed. debate prep in today's campaign 2016 report. both are now doing debate preparation over the weekend ahead of the first presidential debate on monday the two. americans get the chance to see the candidates side by side. cbs's jan crawford sat down with experts to find out what is going on this weekend. >> off all the big moments in the campaign, this is else only one when the american people have them side by side. >> the best performers say i'm not going to lose on this or

happening now, 850-pound octopus is spreading its trashy ten ta cals at union station. this is a sculpture made entirely from debris found on beaches. this is part of a new wash to shore exhibit currently visiting denver. 14 others were installed at the denver zoo. this artwork creates awareness for pollution marine life. >> we hope they are a little horrifying because this is all garbage off the beaches. every piece of plastic in our sculptures was once purchased by someone and then it ended up in the ocean where it is not supposed to be. >> some of that goes downstream to the ocean from places like colorado. you can see washed ashore on display at union station and at

you see the general movement is to the northeast up here so it is bringing snow into western colorado. in the next 24 hours, the low moves into wyoming. the cold front comes here. it splashes the mountains with moisture but we don't see a lot in denver. we might see an isolated thunderstorm but not a lot. then into northern wyoming and a little back wash here, so we'll have snow in the mountains. right now not going to be a ton of snow to an inch. some areas pushing up to steamboat springs but a definite sign things are changing. might get a sprinkle late and then into the evening an isolated storm here, but not a lot of moisture for denver around here. might see severe storms late in the day eastern colorado as the front comes through tonight. could be problematic for those

we'll have to watch there. here is a look at the temperatures. warm and windy across the eastern plains. mostly 80s to near 90. already cloudy and cold in the west. today, 86 downtown. isolated storms possible this afternoon. chilly tonight at 45. the front will be through and then tomorrow 69 degrees. 67 on sunday. might see a shower saturday afternoon. by tuesday we crawl back out and see reading. quite a change coming. from wall to wall this weekend 100% fall weather coming our way. >> holy cow. it is fall. >> yes. >> von miller says part of the
