a death investigation is underway tonight. happening near 56th avenue and chambers road. we are live at the scene, shawn, this began with a report of shots fired? >> reporter: yes. the call came in early in the evening of shots fired. now it is a death investigation hours later the police are still here on the scene. they tell us it was just before 7:00 that they came here to the 16,100 block of east randolph place. we know a body was removed from outside one of the homes on this street. the police can not say anything more about the victim or anymore details about the injuries that led to their death. neighbors saw and heard what led up to this scene and are still shaken boy it tonight. >> boom, bomb, boom. just, just a round of shots. and, one -- on when we came out

mean -- it is scary. >> reporter: we expect the police to be here for a few more hours as they continue to collect evidence and work on this investigation. we hope to get more details on this case in the morning. live in denver, cbs 4 news. >> thank you, shawn. we are also following breaking nows in the sports world. arnold palmer, one of the greatest golfers of all-time, has died. knn championships including four master's. a savvy businessman and the recipient of the presidential medal of freedom and a congressional gold medal. palmer died today in pittsburgh of heart problems. he was 87 years old. facing a 5-man pressure. loads it up, home run ball, dt left side, dt is there, makes the catch and walks into the end zone.

clinton's drop in polls. >> i think that there is a bunch of voters who moved into the kind of the okay i am undecided now. they are going to be looking for something from donald trump that might give them assurance he would be a responsible president of the united states. >> reporter: it moans showing a command of the issues and maybe grace under pressure. clinton has a different challenge. >> and i think hillary clinton needs to come across as someone who is not only in command of the issues needs to show likability. >> reporter: tate says clinton needs to a void of falling into the trap many of trump's primary opponents did. >> too many candidates tried to pick up his style in an effort to respond and retaliate against him and it did not wear well. i am sure there will be live action. i heard someone say it will be more pull contact than the nfl game that is running opposite. i hope that is not the case.

morning in a town of hudson. he stabbed a woman after a fight. neighbors saw there was a problem and struck him with gardening equipment to stop him. a neighbor says it was a chaotic scene. >> it very quickly escalated to a situation where there was probably 10 or 12 emergency responder vehicles. just craziness. we never seen this large of a response out here. we are a small community. >> the authorities are saying the neighbor's actions likely saved the machine's life. >> he will be taken to jail after receiving medical treatment. >> the search for missing hiker can continues in the wilderness area. >> the 49-year-old was supposed to finish a hike buts his family has not heard from him. a massive search effort has been underway since wednesday. there has been no sign of the

in boulder filed a lawsuit against whole foods. she claims her former employer discriminated against her because of her sexual are orientation. the plaintiff spoke exclusively with cbs 4 melissa garcia. >> if felt like i was let down. >> reporter: jennifer johnson married her wife, kristin in 2014. not long after her supervisor at this whole foods market started to harass her on a nea shoes she wore and made comments about her being a lesbian and pry into her personal life. >> only gay people where crocks which i took offense to. >> reporter: she complained on to management about the only action they took was against her. the gm wrote her up for playing music with pro feign language, discipline that she believes was done in retaliation for her

avenue and chambers road. they responded to reports of shots fired. the witnesses tell cbs 4 a man's body was found on the street. the police have not confirmed how that man died or if anybody is in custody. we will continue to monitor the situation and we will bring you up dates as we get them. developing tonight, major league baseball's mourning the death of one of the brightest stars. miami parlins jose fernandez died in a boats -- on marlins jose boating accident. >> reporter: they spotted it this overturn boat near miami beach. >> they came up to the vessel and noticed the lights were on. debris in the water. >> reporter: as they a arrived to the scene they discovered the bodies of three men. one of the victims was 24-year- old jose fernandez. a pitcher for the miami marlins. >> a tragic loss not only for the family, friends but for the marlin community, the state of florida, major league baseball and anyone who met this

young pitch pitch phenomenal. the cuban-born player was still a teenager who the marlins drafted him in the first round in 2011. he quickly became the all-star pitcher for the franchise and named the all-time national rookie of the year in 2015. his number is displayed on the game board in the park. sunday's game against the >> the way they play on the field is how you honor him. >> reporter: across the league, baseball teams, players, fans, paying tribute to him. florida investigators are still looking into the deadly crash where they say speed was a likely factor. >> there is no indication of alcohol or any type of illegal drugs involved. >> reporter: none of the three men on board were wearing life vests. kelly worthman, cbs 4 news. tonight, after days of protest the city of charlotte

straight day. protesters demanded justice for the shooting death of keith scott. dem straighters use oned the panthers nfl game as a -- demonstrators used the panthers nfl stadium as a backdrop of their protest. inside newton wore a shirt having a quote from king. >> here to protect us and sometimes it does not happen that people accountable. >> it came after the police released video of the shooting death. developing now, crews are working to put out a fire on an oil tanker ship in the gulf of mexico. the fire broke out yesterday afternoon on a ship belonging to mexico's state-owned oil company.

the authorities say the fire is under conrole but the cleanup could take days. no spills reported. the ships 31 crewmembers all died. animals were swept up in a raging river and people on the bridge noticed the deer struggling. three men strange into action. one man jumped into the water with a life jacket on and strapped in the deer and the other two men pulled to safety. >> it feels good to see the city coming together in the midst of something like this, man, coming together to be able to save wildlife. it is -- it is a lot of animals that will not be able to make it through the flood. we are able to help an animal. that is good. >> should feel good. >> the men drove the deer out of town and set it free. color temperatures settle into colorado. dave it looks like we have a pleasant week ahead. >> i think we will.
