shot and one student and the teacher was released from the hospital, but the other student is in critical condition. hena daniels is in new york. >> reporter: the teenage gunman is in police custody this morning. now authorities are trying to figure out what led to this tragic school shooting in this rural town. the teen is accused of first shooting and killing his own father, before driving to the elementary school and opening fire on the playground. townville elementary remains closed today and the rest of the week as investigators try to figure out what led a teenager to open fire on school grounds wednesday. >> did he have issues at school? did he have issues at home? we don't know but we are certainly going to run the gamut of everything. >> reporter: authorities say the 14-year-old suspect drove to the school, got out of his car, and started shooting at people on the playground with a handgun. frantic parents were sent an emergency text and rushed to the scene.

basically. we were told at that point it was on lockdown. we saw helicopters coming in. >> reporter: a female teacher and two 6-year-old boys, including jacob hall, were wounded. jamie brock, an unarmed volunteer firefighter, was one of the first on the scene. he tackled the teen and held him down until police arrived. >> i don't think anyone amongst that doesn't believe that firefighter brock is absolutely community. >> reporter: before the shooting, officials say the teenager shot and killed his home three miles from the school. the teen then called his grandparents who discovered the body. >> they couldn't understand why he was crying on the phone and they couldn't make sense of it. >> reporter: officials at the school are offering grief counseling to teachers and students. authorities say one student was shot in the leg, the other in the foot. the teacher was hit in the shoulder.

on the campaign trail now. donald trump continues to lash out at hillary clinton, attacking her record as a diplomat and highlighting her recent bout with pneumonia. meanwhile, hillary clinton is working to win the support of younger voters. weijia jiang reports. >> reporter: bernie sanders urged his young and progressive followers to help send his former rival to the white house. >> this election is enormously important for the future of our country. >> reporter: a recent cbs news/"the new york times" poll finds that more than a third of voters under 30 are planning to vote for a third-party candidate. hillary clinton focused on climate change and making college affordable. >> we will make public colleges tuition-free for families earning less than $125,000 a year. >> reporter: a new poll of likely voters shows clinton may have regained some of her footing after monday's debate. the politico website gives her a

linking senior saudi officials to the attacks. margaret brennan, cbs news, the white house. it was nearly a year ago that two louisiana marshals fired 18 bullets into an suv, killing a 6-year-old boy. for the first time, police released body cam video of the incident. the marshals had been chasing christopher few after he had an argument with a girlfriend. few is able to walk away, but his young son was struck five times in the head and chest. one of the officers said few tried to ram his vehicle, but police say that was a lie. the officers are being tried separately. police in el cajon, california say a man shot dead by police was holding an electronic cigarette device. when police arrived tuesday,
