good morning, taking a look at cones we have out there as you travel along mississippi and that's due to the ongoing construction there. we have the daytime closures of mississippi as you get to the east of santa fe out to broadway and the closures picked up through the weekend and back in place on monday. there's a shooting in lakewood, live to center in e west block. >> reporter: police received a call around 1248 tum tim this morning. right now they're foe cusing on one particular car in a driveway. the neighbor came outside to see what was going on and he saw a couple people trying to break in a car to steal it. shots were fired and the neighbor was hit and he was just trying to do the right thing.

nonlife threatening injuries. some bullets did strike the car so police are on scene investigating where that happened. suspects are unknown at this point in time. the vehicle description is unknown but they took off in a car. the scene is active as is the investigation and we're continuing to look into it. ntsb investigators are hoping to find out today how fast the commuter train in new jersey was traveling when it was at that velocity. the derailment killed one person and injured hundreds more. they hope to find out more from the engineer. 0. >> the engineer was released from the hospital. >> reporter: chris christie referencing the ennear. >> he's cooperating with law enforcement. >> reporter: he's now identified as a new jersey

48-year old thomas gal ger. >> we got jolted out of our seats. there was a loud crash and explosion. >> it killed a woman on the platform and caused massive damages at one of the busiest transit hubs in the new york area. images shows what looks like a partial roof collapse. the train's braking system and trying to determine how fast it was going. >> we will be pulling that event locomotive. also a recorder in the controlling car and we'll be getting that as soon as we can access that. >> neighbors shocked about hearing about the crash and concerned with the engineer and his family. >> when i saw him come up and heard it was the case i couldn't believe it. it's just tragic in terms of what they're going through. . let's get to weather and traffic every ten minutes on

good morning, off to a bit of a nice start. nice to see rain out there on the western slope and foothills. if you're not getting this light rain you will probably be on the cloudy side this morning. parts of grand county through red feather lakes close to fort collins. some around the denver area and light rain for you near meeker and closer to craig this morning. a little bit near colburn and rifle along i-70 but not widespread. 60 in denver. and aspen and 57 in grand junction. for your hour by hour forecast, noon and partly cloudy and the chance of more rain coming in this afternoon and evening so there's a potential for storms out there later today. we'll talk more about that and the weekend in a moment. >> didn't that just make your morning hearing the word "weekend"? got to get through the work day first. company on the drive southbound

you may have to disengage the cruise control. closures in place with october fest going on downtown and also the denver firefighter chili cook off at spear and larimer and as you get along mississippi that's closed to the east of santa fe. once a top cop on the drug beat, this former denver police officer is now accused of setting up an illegal grow operation and more. he was let go by the department a morfitt has our story for you. >> reporter: a former narcotic sergeant for the denver police department is now facing drug charges of his own according to the district attorney's office, an odor complaint prompted an investigation into the home of the 49 opp 00-block of south field way this summer. investigators searched the home and found meth, two pounds of marijuana and more plants than are legal.

the search warrant and was immediately arrested. he worked for denver police from 1993-2014 when he was charged with assault for threatening his girlfriend. a disciplinary letter from the department shows he was put on suspension and ordered not to engage in activity. he used his badge twice claiming he was investigating a crime when he was not an soon fired after. he's facing multiple drug charges related to the illegal grow operation. >> he's in a whole lot of trouble accused of manufacturing and attempted with several other charges. david cook had plans to climb the toughest summits in the wilderness area.

no one has heard from cook since tuesday. a youth pastor convicted of sexual assaulting a 13-year old girl will face his sentence today. he urged the girl to meet him at local parks where he would touch her inappropriately and he tried to get the victim to cover up the abuse. there's something that stinks in the water supply in loveland. water coming from the green ridge reservoir smell and taste a little funny. the water is safe to drink. he says no algae hosanna gotten into the water supply and it's a by-product of the algae which gaves the water a foul taste. the water used to dilute the algae also has algae in it.

and that part helped him read the usage. when meters are replaced customers end up with a spike in their bill because the power used during the time has been accounted for. >> i called customer service and talked to one person up there and their answer was baufkly there's nothing they could do. >> he shows us how for the past two years his usage is the same month to to month and the bill never they will now find the old meter to make sure the kilo watts are changed out. >> this woman's bill in boulder jumped five times after a meter change. >> if i'm hardly using my lek tris si now and it's almost 200 $200, what will it be like in january? >> paul says he wants to understand his bill. >> i pay will pay for what i use.
