this is the news in health, the food and drug administration approves a new device that could change the lives of millions of people living with type one diabetes. the so-called artificial pancreas continuously monitors a patient's blood sugar level during the day. it sends that information wirelessly to an insulin pump which injects the exact amount the person needs. it works faster and can. >> it's really changed my life. it's made managing my type one diabetes considerably easier. >> experts say this system is also crucial in managing diabetes overnight when people are sleeping. one in three coloradians have free diabetes. that mean -- prediabetes. that means their blood level sugar is high, but not high enough to be diabetes.

tragic new developments in the recent school shooting in south carolina. the 6-year-old boy gunned down at his elementary school has died from his injuries. the 14-year-old suspect is already charged as a juvenile with murder and attempted murder. he's accused of killing his father before driving school and opening fire. officials could upgrade the charges against him after that boy's autopsy. developing now, authorities are waiting for toxicology test results to learn more about the deaths of two sisters at a luxury resort. the women died off the coast of africa. autopsy results show annie and robin korkki died from excessive fluid in their young. annie lived here in denver and

our medical editor dr. dave hnida says it can be caused by any number of things, including delayed decompression from scuba diving or mountain climbing, or drug overdose. this colorado mother is facing serious charges after police say she fakeed having cancer to get a man's money. the 49-year-old from monument met a 79-year-old man from westminster through a dating service. she le cancer and needed money for treatment. he gave her $34,000 over two years. even bought her a car and vacations overseas. she admitted to police she does not have cancer. subaru is recalling nearly 600,000 vehicles because their windshield motors can overheat. that can create a dangerous fire risk. the recall affects some legacy and outback cars from the 2010 to 2014 model years.

whether the problem has caused fires or injuries. contact your dealer if you think your vehicle is part of at that recall. meteorologist dave aguilera is in colorado's weather center. dave, nice well here, but a hurricane is -- weather here, but a hurricane is threatening to hit the east coast. >> i think this will be a huge problem for the east coast, florida and new york city. at the moment, matthew is category 4. not moving fast. it went cat 5 last night, making it the largest hurricane in the atlantic we've seen in the last 10 years. it's weakened somewhat today. as we look at the weather map, i want to show you the spaghetti plots. it's at least 12 different models that shows us where the

jamaica and puts it off the coast of florida, which could be a problem for the carolinas from raleigh up to washington, because there's not a huge front or anything coming through to drive it out away from that area. so that could be what we call a district hit. we'll have to watch for that. at the moment here's the latest predicted path. it should some time between, oh, between sunday night and tuesday cross between jamaica anit here, eventually what should happen is it should make it right across the east side of the cuban island here, probably midnight on tuesday, the way things look, and then with 110- mile-per-hour, that makes it a category 2, and by thursday it will be off the coast of florida there, with heavy surf there and beyond that, it's anybody's guess on where it will go.

problematic for the east coast. showers in elbert county and i'll let you know where they're going, and we have a bigger player in our week coming up. >> thank you. denver police are showing us a new tool in efforts to prevent deadly shootings and improve public safety. it is a 300-degree virtual training simulator. our jamie leary checked it out. >> reporter: the denver police department is in the revamping their training program. this simulator is part of it. the focus is critical thinking in a scenario where you have to make a split second decision. i had the opportunity to test it out, and it's as real as it can get. >> sir, put your weapon down. we're not going to shoot you. you have to put your weapon down. we can talk this through calmly. >> reporter: there is a person controlling the simulation deciding what happens next

situation. what you didn't see, i was shot by the suspect, because i didn't recognize the situation was escalating. it was extremely unnerving and the scenes real and graphic, so we opted not to show some of them. there's about 100 different scenarios. there are a number of tools, including verbal de-escalation, and pepper spray or a taser. in time they can create scenarios from local settings. >> eventually we own scenarios and have officers working in our community and give them different scenarios and have them interact. >> reporter: the simulator cost about $300,000 and was purchased by the denver police foundation. it's not just denver police that can use this. it will be available to law enforcement from across the region. at the denver police academy, jamie leary, cbs4 news. the csu rams take on wyoming tonight in the annual border war football game.

vols beat georgia, 34-31. undefeated baylor in trouble in iowa state. cyclones up by 14 in the fourth quarter. then baylor scored not one, but two touchdowns in the 4th. this big one here, a part of the first one and after the bears tied it at 42, they send the field goal team to do the rest. chris calahan good from 19 yards out, the broncos and tampa bay bucks don't have a lot in common recently. broncos won 12 last year, the same number tampa bay won in the 2013 and 2014 season combined. the bucs selected talib in the first round in the 2008 draft. he spent four seasons there before being traded to new england. also a homecoming for t.j. ward.

for the fiesta. close to a million people are expected to attend. there is also local food and entertainment. that is such a terrific week every week. >> so much fun. i lived down there a long time ago. there's nothing like it. beautiful sight to be had. i hear, they say it's the most photographed event in the world, the albuquerque balloon festival. i don't know. out there great shape. couple of thunderstorms in some locations. south of castle rock, pushing into elbert county. calahan has a pretty good rain storm. little lightning bolt there south of kiowa going on now. southern colorado we've got thunderstorms just outside of camp0. following that new mexico line. nothing severe, but thunderstorms rumbling with that system. light rain and high mountain snow in the san juans outside of telluride going on.

pushing into sections of northwestern colorado from grand junction up towards craig and meeker and some of those areas. there is a low pressure trough off the coast of california. this high should be our protecter most of the weekend. monday nice and tuesday, that cool change, trough slides into colorado, bringing in much cooler temperatures and kind of a change. i think the second half of next week will have you running for the coat maybe, and maybe the here. nothing chilly about today. we made it to 80 for the high. 50 for the low. check out this shot from telluride, lloyd brown of loveland was there, great picture there. tonight we clear out, we'll be partly cloudy to mostly clear tomorrow morning. couple of isolated showers and thunderstorms in the mountains. doesn't look like it will make it into the eastern plains so we should be mostly sunny here in eastern colorado tomorrow.
