we begin cbs4 news at 6:00 with breaking news. a wildfire raging in pueblo county has grown to 1,000 acres. the fire has destroyed at least five structures including some homes near the town of boula, 25 miles southwest of pueblo. a middle and elementary school was evacuated today along with all the homes now within a 2-mile radius of the fire. no injuries r breaking story and bring you any updates. there was another grass fire in loveland. started this afternoon south of highway 60. 18 acres scorched. crews believe the fire started when someone tossed a cigarette out of their car window. the strong winds fueling the fires in just a few minutes. colorado taking center stage in the race for president. there's donald trump, held a rally this afternoon in pueblo. and he'll be taking the stage at

minute now. and taxes became a big part of this visit after some of trump's past tax returns were leaked to the new york times. >> political specialist shaun boyd is the only reporter in the state to get an interview with mr. trump. she joins us now live from pueblo. >> the new york times report damaging to trump on two fronts. one, it questions his success as a businessman, saying his 1995 tax return shows a loss of more paid any federal income tax for 15 years because of tax loopholes. loopholes i asked trump if he would close. >> absolutely. i've been talking about this for years. i understand it very well. a person like myself that understands it can do things that are frankly pretty amazing. >> reporter: he didn't talk about specific loopholes but said he would make the tax code

to his benefit including during a real estate downturn in the 90s. >> i was able to use the tax laws in this community and my business to dig out of the real estate mess. >> reporter: trump in a different kind of mess today. several media outlets taking him to task after he told a veteran who asked about ptsd that some people are strong enough to handle war, others aren't. >> i heard the marine who asked the question said the answer was really a great answer so that was nice of misunderstanding. you're just telling me this for the first time. >> reporter: trump also insisted he's done nothing to offend women after he doubled down on his criticism of a former miss universe for putting on weight. i asked him about accusations he's sexist. >> in which i'm not. i have great respect for women. i have such respect for women. i think i'm going to do very well with the women vote. >> big debate coming up. there's been talk you might discuss bill clinton's infidelities and in particular,

those. will you? >> well, i've heard that and everybody is hearing it but me. i hope not, to be honest with you. i'd like to talk policy. i think policy is much more important so i hope i don't discuss that and we'll see what happens. we'll see how levels of respect and how we get treated. >> trump also talked to me about why he decided to hold a rally here in pueblo. a democratic stronghold for decades. he tolde republicans he's doing well here in part because of his message on jobs and trade. trump also holding a rally in loveland tonight. he just took the stage there. stan bush is there live. >> it's estimated about 10,000 people will be at this campaign stop for mr. trump at the budweiser event center. in fact some members of this crowd have been here since 4:30 in the morning. loveland is very safe trump territory but the image of this stop is important. the arena is expected to be

>> clinton says there should be a law forcing presidential nomination to also release their tax returns. right now the latest on a wild and dangerous scene in centennial. a homeowner says a man tried breaking down his front door early this morning and then started shooting at the house. the homeowner told our jennifer brice that man has been seen around the neighborhood before. >> weeks before taking pictures of houses in here. the guy kept yelling i own this neighborhood, i own this hb marina. >> the suspect was hit and wounded by the homeowner's gunfire. he was found in his car a few blocks away and is expected to be okay. deputies say there's much more to investigate so they haven't arrested him yet. happening now, the investigation to a violent rollover crash that killed all five people in the car. two of these victims were brothers. the crash happened yesterday on county line road near monarch

lincoln high school in denver where three of the victims had attended high school. you spoke with family members today. >> yes, we did, karen. this is october, the month for halloween and ghost stories. and the grandmother of two of the boys who died told us that that's what they were doing, exploring a ghost story when this horrible crash occurred. >> reporter: like a picture postcard, the five who died are being remembere friends and family. cynthia sanchez is the grandmother of the brothers who died. >> they were good boys. they were just out having fun as teenagers and this terrible thing happened. >> reporter: angelo had been laid off from his job remodeling homes. his brother levi, who was believed to be driving, was training to be a barber. what were they doing at the arapaho-elbert county line

highway is supposed to be haunted and they were kids and they just wanted to check it out. and tragedy came to us. and now we don't have our boys. >> reporter: legend has it there was a deadly accident here two decades ago at what is called third bridge. that bridge is now believed to be haunted and a magnet for adventure seeking kids. >> our hearts go out to their families as we're so sorry. >> reporter: ironically the car containing them lost control while speeding down this road perhaps in search of that other haunting story. what happened this past weekend in this single car crash may now become a legend too. >> they're just young boys. they didn't mean to -- i'm sure they didn't mean to hurt anybody. i'm sorry to their families too. >> grief counselors were brought

happening right now, republican presidential candidate donald trump talking to supporters in loveland. live pictures from the event center. if you'd like to watch his rally, we're streaming it live on cbsdenver.com. the legalization of marijuana has created an unexpected problem for denver police. the department says it's in plants they've confiscated. >> now it wants help solving the problem. kelly werthmann joining us live from dpd headquarters with a closer look. >> here's the thing. denver police, they have two storage rooms here at the headquarters where they can store that confiscated marijuana. the problem is that they are seizing more marijuana than they ever have before now that

carney. he manages the evidence here with the department. he says it used to be that police would seize maybe a couple ounces of pot at a time that would fit in to small red evidence envelopes or slightly larger quantities in brown bags. now he says officers are confiscating boxes full of marijuana, sometimes 400 boxes at a time. they're running out of space in their evidence storage rooms and sometimes the plants that are taken, they start to mold like the one you can see inhi city council for a little more than $125,000 to fix the problem. >> we've asked for more staffing to facilitate the transfer of the property end to the lab and to the composting facility. we've asked for more storage devices to hold it. and we've already got money in the budget to compost which is saving us quite a bit of money by doing that. >> and carney says the department is kind of caught in

there's a bermuda high here. it's going to have to skirt around that high. that's going to brush it close to florida and the carolinas and by saturday it's going to be just off the coast of carolina. a category 4, 140-mile-per-hour winds. that could cause a lot of problems right there. as we take a look at what we got going on as far as our -- computer is just not wanting to work here. anyway, we do have a frontal system that is coming through our area. let's go to meteorologist lauren whitney in center. what's going to happen when that front finally comes through? >> the front is working its way through right now. we're seeing some of that wind, really gusty in some areas and off in the western slope you'll notice temperatures are much cooler. they're dropping in the foothills as well. that front is going to continue to make its way out of the state throughout the evening hours. tonight we'll start to see those winds calm down just a bit. here across the denver area out to the eastern plains near fort collins, winds are 30 to almost 40 miles per hour. you're still a bit windy out near craig.

our mountains, still pretty windy. we're going to see the winds stick around for a while. overnight tonight they'll start to mellow out. then comes much cooler temperatures. 30 in meeker. western slope and high country, we have pretty chilly temperatures. 26 in telluride. just about freezing in frisco and eagle. early tomorrow morning those temperatures could get in to the 20s and we're talking about the low 40s here in denver. we're in for cool temperatures. that means there are advisories out there for some spots inhe colds. >> because those cold temperatures we were talking about, we have freeze warnings all over the west here. that goes from midnight tonight to 9 a.m. tomorrow morning. 81 is our high today. both d.i.a. and denver. 56 and 51 the starts. 71 and 41 would be normal. 88 and 31 are the records. 72 and 67 right now. we have a northwest wind at 22. gusting much more than that at the airport. 21% for the humidity. the barometer is on the rise. pretty shot from gale hanley.

here's between silverthorne and kremmling. look at this from pete looking straight up in to the blue sky with all the gold in front of it. temperatures mostly 30s and 40s on the eastern plains. 20s and 30s for the mountains. and then tomorrow you'll notice it is cool around here. 50s and 60s. 70s over the southeast. we'll see 40s for the high country. out west temperatures in the 50s and 60s. now let's take a look at your decreasing. low to mid 40s. for tomorrow we'll see partly cloudy, cooler conditions low to mid 60s. and then for the next several days we'll see 67 for wednesday but look at thursday. another surge of cold air. this brings moisture. showers at 40%. your weekend, 71 by saturday. >> at least you saved that weekend. time now to talk sports. we're going to send it out to the view house and michael spencer. the rockies in the market for a

after four years, the walt weiss era in denver is over. the rockies announceing that weiss send down today. this isn't exactly a surprise given a bit of confrontation he's had with rockies general manager jeff bridich over the years. bridich took over as while the team made a 7-game improvement this year, the two were still not seeing eye to eye. >> situation two years ago could have been very different and he and i think worked very hard to create a relationship and try to make it work and ultimately it was time for a change here. but lots of times it's not that
