in the middle of the night. the man after her was caring gun. and all this was caught on a camera in the doorbell. >> help! help! [ screaming ] >> reporter: those panicked screams are what brian and his wife woke up to early sunday morning. >> there's a reason she came to our door >> reporter: a woman was running from her boyfriend, desperate to get away. she showed up on their front porch and began frantically the doorbell. video shows the suspect grab the young woman and shooting her in the leg. [ screaming ] >> reporter: he then attempts to drag her into the street. >> i don't know what my plan was. i don't know if i had one. >> reporter: without hesitation, he intervened, doing his best to fight the suspect off. >> i wanted to get him off of her. i think i was hoping to hit him hard enough to knock the gun

machete was inside the new athletic facility on the campus at cu boulder. he was evely shot and killed by police. jeff todd is live there tonight how much did this start? >> reporter: a big part of this new champion center this is, the sports medicine offices in conjunction with the boulder community health. it wasn't a student, it was a patient who showed up in this parking lot and had a verbal altercation with the man with a machete and started a bizarre frightening day here on the cu campus. >> our suspect continued to follow our patient up to the second floor, which generated multiple radio calls to the city and to cupd dispatch of a man armed with a machete inside the champion center. >> reporter: several campus police officers and nine boulder officers responded. a found a man between floors in a sisterwell. >> they ordered the individual to drop the masheand he he did

occurred >> reporter: one officer from each agency fired. the man was pronounced dead. >> we believe it was in the best interests of the university and it was a deadly force situation >> reporter: classes continued. >> after i received the information from the chief and others that there was significant risk that warranted the closing of the campus and made that decision not to close the campus. >> reporter: this afternoon, there was another report ever someone with a gun in front of a coffee shop it. wasn't known at the time if that was on campu or nearby. >> we elected to send a message to the community about a potential act harmer inside the unc >> reporter: no threats were found on campus and boulder police released that suspect. >> i never experienced anything like this. >> reporter: we still don't know anything about the man who made his way inside this center. a multiagency investigation is underway. we've been talking to

getting text messages from the same alert number that the school sends out. the school is saying those are pranks and there are no threats or situations. traffic jams as nearly two million people in florida, georgia, and the carolinas evacuate before hurricane matthew arrives. it could hit florida in the next 24 hours. tracking this dangerousrm >> it's over the bahamas. and it has been downgraded to a category 3, but it is going to strengen as it moved over -- strengthen as the moves over warmer waters. it is over the bahamas and a category 3. as the moves its way up the florida coast, tell strengthen. it may not totally make landfall, but the bands extend 160 miles.

a young couple says become so bad they're selling their home and moving out of the city. investigator brian maws live in cheese man park for us tonight. this is an isolated complaint? there were wasn't. areas that used to be isolated from the hormoneless are now feeling a direct impact -- homeless and are feeling a direct impact, and people are not happy.
