f0 good morning, everybody. 4:30now. thursday, the 6th of october. i'm alan gionet. >> i'm britt moreno. good morning, good thursday morning. another weather system has moved into colorado, snow in the mountain and light rain on the front range. denver, boulder and fort collins at least light rain. i think the radar is overdoing it a little bit. this looks like heavier rain than it is. nevertheless, some of the roads will be wet this morning. as we look at the i-70 corridor it's around idaho springs that that rain starts transitioning into snow. towards georgetown it's all

troubles. if you're headed to the southeast there are dozens of flights canceled out of dia. we'll be live in our next half hour to show you the situation. so far hurricane matthew is being blamed for at least 25 deaths in the carribean. the champion center will be open today for normal business hours on the cu campus, after two officers man wielding a machete yesterday. investigators say the man threatened a patient at one of the sports medicine offices inside. police shot aim when he -- him. some students were caught by surprise after receiving safety alerts. >> i'm shocked. i'm actually -- and it's very dangerous for the students out there, and it's morning time and all students are off to their classes. >> it's unknown whether the

criminal history or mental health problems. driver in custody this morning after crashing into another car in denver overnight. police were after this red car using their helicopter. the car was eastbound on 14th. they say it hit a blue car that was driving north. the driver tried to run. police say they caught up with the driver and nobody injured. a vehicle took a tumble from the upper parking lot at red rocks last night. these pictures come from one our photojournalists. they had to haul her up. no word on her condition. police say they are not investigating alcohol as a factor. a fort carson soldier is trying to get his dog back. it was given away apparently while he was off training. he left his german shepherd, ace, with a friend while he was at fort irwin in california. he had limited communication

out of the dog sitter's yard. >> some woman saw him, saw that he had a collar and brought him in and reported it to the military police. >> a kennel in fountain has a contract with fort carson to take in found animals. the dog sitter tried to get ace back, but since she didn't have ownership documents, ace was adopted out after five days per policy. fort carson is trying to contacac if the dog can be returned. it is loud, runs late, keeps people awake at night. tonight a cbs4 investigation, brian maass asks rtd what it plans to do about the noise complaints from the new airport train. >> reporter: the train to the airport was supposed to be quiet. >> all night long that's what you hear, and i'm sick of it.

this is the news in health and we start with a new clarity to a previous study. in 2007 the world health organization said working nights could increase the chance of developing cancer, but is there really a link? several new studies find no connection between working the night shift and breast cancer risk. researchers followed a total of

studies and found no increased risk. scientists from harvard and massachusetts say they have come up with a blood sugar test that is 50% more accurate than the current test widely used by diabetics. researchers say the new test is more precise because it factors in the age of each patient's red blood cells. they say it could lead to more precise diagnosis, monitoring and better tailored treatments. and new there's a cap to how old we can possibly live and we've reached it. researchers calculated the maximum human life span peaked in the mid-'90s. they put the average maximum life span at 115 years and the absolute limit at 125. looks like bed bath and beyond may be getting rid of those popular 20% off coupons.

interstate 70. around i'd show springs -- idaho springs is where it transitions to snow. also 285 by the time you get to conifer and bailey at least snow mixed in. golden is experiencing rain. light rain in highlands ranch and in denver. thornton, erie seeing light rain. fort collins, berthoud light rain, and it's making it's way to weld county. greeley i don't think it will be long before you see rain as temperatures now in the 40s. it's not as cold as yesterday at this time in most areas. this many locations in -- in many locations in the high country around freezing instead of the 20s like yesterday. lower to middle 50s this afternoon. now we're in the 40s. there's not going to be much of a temperature climb today. one of the reasons why, because there's going to be very little, if any, sunshine.

use the arms and hopes his body doesn't reject them. here's a story from our david martin. >> reporter: six years after he lost all of his limbs to an explosion in afghanistan, john appeared in public for the first time with human arms. he began by thanking the family of an unknown young man who in death donated those arms. >> i will tell you this, your loved one's death will not be for nothing. every day that i look down at through the pain and i will never give up. >> reporter: feck, a former marine, is one of only 25 people in the entire world to receive a double arm transplant. >> as you can see, the countertops are lowered. >> reporter: when we talked to him before the operation, he was counting on it to free him from a life in which everything was difficult. >> i can't make sandwiches. it's too much work.

this man, jesus garcia. shawn chitness has more. we talked to the homeowner. >> reporter: the video is certainly incredible. but we are happy to report that both the victim and the good samaritan in this case are recovering from their shooting injuries. the search does continue for that suspect. take a look at this video. it's surveillance video from that good samaritan's home. a camera posted outside by the door. we see this woman running to th and then soon after her boyfriend coming to try and grab her as well. we know he had a gun. and then as she is unable to get away and he takes her away, the good samaritan, the man living in that house. brian geer, comes out and runs after her. and we know both she, the girlfriend of the suspect, as well as mr. geer, were shot in the leg by that suspect. but he was able to get away and
