ashton, the weather watchers are wide awake. >> they sure are. we're reporting cold temperatures. it's the first official freeze of the season for denver this morning. it's right on schedule. that's what's happening. orlando in littleton reporting 32 degrees. cbs weather watcher there. 13 degrees this morning. it's very cold in the mountains. let's get a check on the traffic. he let's take a look at the drive going west into town. i-70 eastbound, eastbound 6th avenue, highway 285 and eastbound 470 are looking nice wide and open for now. i will give you your full traffic picture coming up. >> hurricane matthew hitting hard spinning off the coast straight east of cape canaveral at the moment. it is a category three storm at winds of 120 miles an hour on

there's a path of destruction in the caribbean. that's a roof getting ripped away from a home in the bahamas. winds are so strong they caused this damage here. >> you can feel the droplets hit your hands, arm, head. >> it's felt across the florida coast. >> this is only half the wind speeds >> overnight, the winds became pounding the area with rain and errorring winds. the storm serge from the category 3 storm sent boats in this harbor rocking side to side. storm shutters were ripped off the front of businesses in west palm beach. daytona beach police were left patrolling empty streets as most residents lifted evacuation warnings. >we can rebuild homes and businesses. we can't rebuild life.

>> some people living on the coast who couldn't get out of town sought safety and red cross shelters. this one inside the calf fear i can'ts. >> there were mobile homes and places. they're heeding the call for authorities. >> conditions here in orlando intensify over the next few hours. matthew is expected to slam florida all day with hurricane force winds and turn towards georgia. >> the state de did the same as this beach bar stayed open for one last party. >> we're closed after tonight. we should be good after this. >> matthew is expected to move out to sea this weekend. orlando florida. >> thousands of people are trying to get to the east coast and they are now stranded as flights across the country are grounded and many airports are closed in the south east. cbs4 is live at dia for us.

there this morning? >> good morning. i'm here on the east side of the terminal right by south west and delta and from here, you would think everything is okay because it looks like just another day at the airport early in the morning but we were able to check on some of the flights heading to florida. i'm going to step out of the way. the flight is heading to miami and orlando not surprisingly canceled however, other flightse it just depends on where exactly in the region you're headed to. for the most part, we're seeing the impact of the hurricane on flights in our area as flights to not only miami and tampa cancel this morning and the airport wanting to remind passengers to check with the airline and if the flight is

>> good morning to you, allen. it is cold and foggy this morning. no issues here in denver. a little bit farther to the north friends in northern colorado, visibility is limited thanks to fog. visibility down to half mile and it's the same in fort morgan. be aware of that. fort morgan, growly, denver, we're all under a freeze. this goes to 9 a.m. it's the first official freeze of the season this morning with temperatures right around 32 degrees in most earlier this morning dia dropped to 32 degrees. meanwhile, 30 along 285 and conifer and 32 degrees in bolder. here's the forecast. by 9:00 a.m. 42. lunchtime 58 and a high temperature of 65 degrees later today. let's check the traffic. joe is in this morning. >> here's a look at i-70 and

the suspect fled and another person sustained serious injuries and transported to the hospital. i want to show you where the injuries were so serious. take a look at how badly damaged this week was. it started around 3:30 this morning. denver police pursuing the car that crashed. unknown why the pursuit started. the store's is assistant manager said he saw the car flying by shooting up from the rim of a tire that had blown out. he had a frightening moment. he said after the car rolled just in front of the gas station, the suspect got out and ran up to him. >> he runs up to me and starts trying to run up to the store. i knew he was from the accident and with the cops chasing him, i don't want in the middle of that one. >> he took a minute to notice that the suspect didn't have

felt okay approaching him telling him no, you can't come in here. he said the suspect then took off behind the gas station. right now, they're searching for the man. police are searching for him with assistance from the acams county sheriff's office. we'll continue to follow this scen live in denver, cbs4 morning news. >> a serge on this morning for three luxury rv's worth nearly $2 million. they were apparently driven right off the lot. karen was at the dealership in frederick and explains what the thieves swiped. >> the manager believes these crooks knew what they wanted. they targeted 2017 models and

of the line. >> surveillance cameras capture the crime. >> some of the staff said we can't find the motor home and i said go look for it. it's got to be here somewhere. >general manager andrew lions said a look at surveillance video shows at least five suspects pulling up to the lot in a white pick up truck. it's around 8:30 tuesday night when they arrived. >> this is not a spur of the moment. this is a thought out they knew when to come here and came when we left and when the cleaning crew comes in. it was well orbing straited. >> once the crooks can carefully open the gate, they

newest and most luxury motor homes. while four suspects are inside working to get the rv's up and running, the pick up truck circles the lot. an hour later, the cameras catch the thieves lining up and getting away. >> if you think you might recognize the truck in the surveillance video or know the folks involved in this, you're asked to call right away. >> a denver police officer is investigating or spying. it depends on who you ask. >> aclu director says denver police agreed to stop collecting information. now he says the department has

back on its words. >> we just don't know how the denver police department is using or tends to use the software. >> the software helps police track social media post coming from a certain area. last month, an online publication said they did it without making it public. th search. >> we think someone might be more hesitant to go to a demonstration if they know doing so is going to make them the target of police attention. >> denver's department of public safety says police use the platform to identify the posts and to assist with identifying criminal activity. the platform also allows the department the ability to gain on awareness of events to

. we have incredible video of a twister caught on camera in kansas. this happened yesterday in the town of kipp, kansas south of i- 70. a storm chaser got a good look at the well defined twister there. it did hit at least one home. the people survived and no reports of injuries. >> this mog, plants covered up. we're in the freeze zone. >we are in the freeze. widespread frost across the front range and eastern plains. it is the coldest morning of the season so far. denver dropping to freezing for the first time. now back up to 37. it's still obviously very chilly. 34 in bolder, 37 in greely. teens and 20s in the colorado high country. this is where we're going to be this afternoon. 60s and 70s on the plains.

54 in frisco, topping out at 65 here in denver. mostly clear skies. doppler 4,000 showing that with one exception up north low cloud cover creating fog. visibility in greely down to a quarter mile. similar situation in fort morgan. we've watched the fog situation get worse and worse there. up along the i-76 corridor limited there. firmly in control of our weather giving us a beautiful weekended and of course, we're continuing to watch what's going on with hurricane matthew. the strongest wind that surrounds the eye wall of the hurricane is staying offshore for now and the hope is that will continue to be the case as this continues to move north parallel to the east coast of florida. for the most part it's tropical storm force wind observed over

next week we start off 78 monday with 67 tuesday and a small chance of rain. let's get a check on traffic. >> just talking about the visibility again, here's a look at the greely, fort morgan area, the mog here is heavily around highway 34 and i-7 6. if you're going north or just driving anywhere in the north east part morning, be careful because it's going to be very low visibility. make sure you don't have your brights on just so that way, it's not, the light is not reflecting off the fog and causing visibility issues. as we take a look at the metro wide picture, no major accidents or stalls on the highway to report this morning. >> great news, joe. both presidential candidates are preparing for the second debate on sunday.

hour long town hall event in new hampshire. he insisted he was not practicing for the debate. trump and clinton tackle more issues sunday when they have a town style hall debate in st. louis. the town hall had us wondering, what would colorado like to see in the second critical debate? i set down with a dozen local voters, trump, clinton and third party supporters and picked their brains. >> is there a certain behavior you would like hillery clinton or donald trump in the next debate? >> it's fair game if hillery brings it up, it's fair game for donald to bring up the fact she enabled bill. >> everything he says is offensive to women. >> the broncos take on the

history. >> their offense is lighting it up. they're playing extremely well. >> the falcons defense may have just as much trouble handling the bronco's offense. falcons rank 29th in scoring. they've given up 28 points in all four games. things to look out for. all indications are he'll start as long as his injured left shoulder doesn't hinder his throwing motion or his ability to move around in the pocket. this is a painful injury and the broncos want to make sure he can protect himself. because of the injury, the broncos want to get the run game going. to do that, the defense has to keep the falcons offense in check and the falcons have to win at the line of scrim anal and make holes for the running
