10 degrees warmer than this afternoon. 70s for the weekend. right now, around the denver area, we're in the 30s. first official freeze of the season. check the calender, today's right on the money. first freeze with up to 38 at dia. ashton, good morning. from the east side of town to and south bound 225 east and westbound i-70 around downtown looking nice and wide open. for now, allen, i'll give you your full traffic coming up. >> we'll check back in a few. hurricane matthew swinging wild round house punches at the florida coast at this moment catching the chin of cape canaveral as the hurricane tracks line even with the florida coast offshore. it's a category three down from

hitting the cape. at the core, the maximum sustained winds are up to 120 miles an hour. that means this is still considered a major hurricane. 2 million people along the coast of florida have been told to head inland. some who stayed behind are calling 911 and told they're going to have to wait. the national weather service warns some homes and billings could be devastated. we have the latest on hurricane matthew in orlando coming up at 6:45. >> right now, the hurricane continues to effect travelers in and out of florida. airports in miami, west palm beach and orlando are closed. others could be effected as the storm moves north. across the country, more than 3700 flights through saturday have been canceled. we caught up with one passenger from orlando who is one of the few lucky ones who made it into

three and they were devastating and everybody's become complacent because we haven't had one. this is a big one. >> most airlines offering waivers so you can get a refund without having to pay a fee. we'll see how hurricane matthew is effecting travel later on at dia. >> and we have breaking news in denver this morning. there are police congregated right now in the area of 50th and washington. we had a chase and crash and a jamie has been on the scene since 4:00 this morning. what's the latest? reporter: we heard part of the perimeter is broken down. they're searching for one person. police were chasing him and there was another person in the car as well just before it crashed. the car was heavily damaged. we know one was transported to the hospital with serious injuries.

damaged that car was. this all unfolded around 3:30 this morning. we talked to an assistant manager at the gas station and there's actually 200 people in the parking lot trying to get to a meat packing plant. police won't let them in.

. now on the eastern horizon, it's a cold start to the day. coldest start in denver. at one point we were at 32 degrees. that's our first freeze. taking a look at the north west corner of the state, 20s. 24 right now in lineman and 65 here in denver. that's 10 degrees lower than yesterday.

today. mostly clear skies with no exception. northern colorado low cloud cover. that's caused major issues. fort morgan airport no visibility. we had fog earlier with the situation improving. big ridge of high pressure funneling in control of the weather over colorado. the entire rocky mountain region, we're beautiful weekend. meanwhile, we continue to track what's going on with category 3 hurricane matthew on the east coast of florida. it's now north east. still the strongest wind offshore and the hope is it will stay offshore as the hurricane continues to move north. parallel to the east coast of florida. so 65 today here in denver. sunshine this afternoon and the weekend beautiful with highs in the 70s. looks good monday as well.

september jobs report. that comes out this morning. yesterday the nasdaq dropped 9 points. hurricane matthew could cost the u.s. economy more than $25 billion and analyst think it could be a lot more than that. thousands of flights canceled, restaurants and stores are closed and for only the fourth time in history, walt disney world is closed because of the storm. th 8 6,000 bathtub accessories. fabrics attached to the bubbling bath and shower. bathtubs pose a drowning risk. they're missing a clip that connects to the head rest and the frame. they'll be naming reports and slings detaching. if you're planning to fly for christmas, that's the best time to buy the ticket. that's according to the airline prediction.

victim into custody. police in italy found an alleged crime lord behind a kitchen cupboard. he cut a hole in wall in his home. the fbi says that man's group is connected to drug trafficking and several killings. >> upcoming town hall the presidential candidates happening sunday had us wondering what would colorado like to see in the second critical debate? i set down with a dozen local voters, trump, clinton and third party supporters and picked their brains. >> is there a certain behavior you would like to see for donald trump or hillery clinton? >> it's fair game if hillery brings it up, it's fair game for donald to bring up the fact she enabled bill.

. live picture over denver this morning, a whole lot going on. we haven't hurricane spinning mow. >> thank you for joining us. we have a copper shot for you right now. there is breaking news here at 50th and washington. if you live in the area, you might want to stay away from the intersection. a wild scene is unfolding and we'll have jamie out there in a moment. we are covering hurricane matthew and it's implications on the united states. >> we have been reporting about police at 50th and washington. we have jamie standing by. we had this bad crash, jamie and that came after a bit of a manhunt. explain what happened. reporter: there was a chase involving denver police. we're not sure what started the chase. actually, police still on the

told it was three to four hours. he canceled work for 150 employees standing in the parking lot trying to get in. that was a no go this morning. i want to show scrow how extensive the damage is to the suspect vehicle. take a look. extensive damage and they were chasing the car when it rolled right where i'm standing. one fled and one was in the car seriously injured and that person was taken to the hospital this morning. for the suspect described as an african american male six feet tall and possibly not wearing shoes either. we're going to talk to the manager of the gas station who was approached by the suspect. stand by for that one. he has a description on the suspect as well and exactly what happened. live in denver, cbs4 morning news. >> this story has a new

death after a body was found in side creek park in aurora. someone reported a man can with a weapon. when officers showed up they found a man dead with a gunshot wound. we don't know the victim's name or anything about the crime. police say there's no threat to the public right now. >> technology being used by the denver police department some are saying goes too far. it's track social media post coming from a certain area last night denver acquired that tour without making the purchase public. they're asking what turns police are using in the social media serges. the department of public safety writes this. they use the platform to

. temperatures in the 30s around denver and the front range. we have some fog creating a problem. visibility issues from denver and bold every this morning. from fort collins to greely we have very dense fog. m it's improved to a quarter mile. that's still enough to create significant weather delays. freeze warning for all of us to 9 a.m. it was our first official freeze of the season by the way. 34 in west minister and 32 in thornton and 34 degrees in wheat ridge. here's the forecast. 9:00 a.m. 42. high temperature of 65.

still a little below normal for the first part of october. we'll climb above normal for the weekend. we'll show you that forecast coming up. let's get a check on our friday morning commute with joe. >> good morning. here's a look at i-25 and 6th avenue from copter4. there's still delays as you head on the ramp from eastbound to south bound i-25. overall, it's not due to an accident, just because of increased congestion in the area. as we ta picture, no major accidents or stalls to report on the highways. i just want to take you up north because there's still low visibility around greely and fort morgan as i turn on the weather index. that means don't turn on your brights, just be careful. >> good info, thanks a lot. the eye of hurricane matthew is spinning off florida right now, tracking a path parallel with the coastline.

just passing it, the winds are over a hundred. this is a powerful category three storm with winds of 120 around its eye. any tuning west it could get a lot worse. 300,000 are without power this morning. 2 million people along the east coast have been told to leave their homes and move inland. marly hall is live for us with the latest on the storm. marly. reporter: matthew is about to come ashore or very close to it later today. the entire florida coast is bracing for a long day of punishing wind, rain and storm serge. >> you can feel the droplets hit your hands, arms, head. this is only at half the wind

of the storm formed in the area with rain and winds. the storm serged from the category 3 storm sent boats rocking side to side. >> it's really quiet a site. storm shutters were ripped off the front of businesses in west palm beach. in daytona beach police were left patrolling empty streets as most residents listened to evacuation warnings. >> we can rebuild homes life. this storm is a monster. some sought safety and red cross shelters. this one inside a school cafeteria. conditions here in orlando intensify over the next few hours. matthew is expected to have hurricane force winds all day and turn towards georgia. the state joined florida in

south carolina did the same as this beach bar is still open for one last party. >> we close after tonight. >> matthew is expected to move out to sea this weekend. reporter: the last category three or higher storm to hit the u.s. was wilma back in 2005 and it killed five people. >> how is hurricane matthew effecting local businesses? reporter: well, one example of that, the major theme parks here in orlando. disney has shut down, so has universal studios as well as sea world and for disney, it's almost unprecedented. this is only the fourth time in history they've actually shut down. >> wow. >> i'm hearing stories this morning, people were calling 911 who didn't evacuate and they're being told you're out of luck until we can check on you later.

and they are stranded as flights across the nation are grounded in many airports are closed in the south east. cbs4 is live with that local angle at denver international airport. sheen. reporter: good morning. here inside it doesn't appear everything is acting normal for a friday morning inside dia. we seen there's a few flights heading into the region. that's going to hurricane matthew or florida specifically. of those flights, some are canceled. some travels are listed as on time. we saw flights to miami, orlando and tampa. most of those canceled, some still there. it's important that the airline gets all passengers in any situation. keep checking with your airline to see what the status is. it could change and we want to be prepared as we get to the airport.

denver right now. police have a man on the run after following a chasing crash. it happened at 50th and washington over night. they have a big perimeter set up as they try to find him. live in the area with the latest, jamie. reporter: they expect to be here for a couple more hours. this is a very involved scene. multiple agencies assisting. we know there's two people in the car that crashed. a suspect transported to the hospital with serious injuries. it flipped right where i'm standing and flipped into the intersection. i want to show you the heavy damage the car sustained. one person ran from the crash. we spoke with the assistant manager from the gas station and the witness is seen unfolding. the suspect that got out of the

obviously, with the cops chasing him, i don't want to get in the middle of that one. reporter: the suspect described as a black male in his 20s. six feet tall, slender built. possibly no shoes. we know there's more to this investigation. i just spoke to the sergeant and he doesn't want to release any details at this time. we'll continue to look into it. live news. >> thank you, jamie. we want to talk broncos now. the broncos take on the falcons strong offense. >> let's talk about it. here now with a preview. good morning. a lot to talk about here. >> good morning.
