moment but first, let's get started with a check of the fra with dave aguilera in the weather center. good morning. we have mostly clear skies, you with a chilly start. look at some of the numbers. 38 at city park. 39 in littleton and 42 in ken- caryl. as we look at the shot from the tech center, mostly clear, a little bit of cloudiness up along the continental divide but i don't think that will be you can see that on the satellite as we put that into motion for you. most of the flow is from the southwest, drier air that will push into the area during the course of the day. we're in good shape. here's the breakdown. 54 at 9:00 a.m. and 66 by noon. the high should be around 71 and mostly sunny skies, wall to wall. kelly, i think we're rolling on what will be a very, very pleasant weekend around here. next week, another october cold

causing major problems as it hits the southeast united states. edward lawyers is in charleston, south carolina. >> reporter: the wind-whipped rain fell in sheets overnight as hurricane matthew moves north along the southeast coast. >> the best thing is hunker down. stay in a safe place. don't move. don't try and move around and make sure to have your cell phones charged. >> reporter: matthew churned up heavy surf and in charleston, streets were abandoned after the city ordered a midnight to 6:00 a.m. curfew. hurricane matthew sent the southeast coast into high alert to become the most powerful storm in a decade. >> flash flood watches are out and certainly, flooding can be a big concern heading into the weekend. >> reporter: more than a million people without power in

winds knocked down trees and down downed power lines. >> i lived through hurricane andrew. >> reporter: edward lawrence, cbs news. we know now that the man killed on the boulder campus was a former marine, brandon simmons. he refused and his friends tell us that he was going through a tough time but are shocked by what happened. >> reporter: friends of brandon simmons, showing support and sorrow on facebook. the father of two was discharged from the marines earlier this year. after growing up in foster homes and spending a decade in the marines accident most recently as a drill instructor, we are told he was having a

after service and an investigation is still going on. the fire who offered the gun has been at cu for 3 years and the veteran officer involved, both on paid leave. >> and a friend reunited with simmons. here's what they had to say. >> so out of character for brandon, a >> he was an outstanding guy. he had a beautiful wife, beautiful kids. he was an incredible marine. he was someone i looked up to. >> i wish i could have seen some sign maybe or could have been there a little bit more, i guess. i don't know. it's just devastating. to me, it's pathetic to see somebody's life -- he don't get the chance to explain what he was going through to get the

39 in boulder and 34 in greeley, but if you really want to get cold, leadville, 25, and meeker at 25, and our weather watchers in arvada, coming in at 42. and in deer trail, also freezing at 31. the satellite and radar together, mostly clear skies, a little bit of high cloudiness drifting in over the area, no big deal and i think we'll have that throughout the morning but in the afternoon, mostly sunny for the majority of the day the way things are we're not expecting much in the way of moisture. the reason? high pressure will dry things out with a front in the pacific northwest. that won't affect us until probably during the work week. we're in good shape this weekend. showers and thunderstorms around el paso and the big weather story this weekend is the hurricane, hurricane matthew. here is the latest positioning as it shoved up florida and now is headed for south carolina here.

the eye of the hurricane, 30 miles south southeast of charleston, south carolina, 75- mile per hour wins and puts it at a category 1 hurricane so it's weakened. it's still expected to take a turn as it moves out with the latest predicted path. on sunday, it moves in this direction and by monday, it takes a drop moving south and by tuesday it winds up here. eventually, it could move back into florida and there is another tropical nicole, a few hundred miles south southeast of the storm and we'll see what happens to those when they clash together. futurecast for us, mostly clear sky and a couple of afternoon clouds. that will be about it. the high today, 71 in denver and monday, 79 for the high, a little bit warmer. and then a cooler shot on tuesday, 65 and wednesday, 57 degrees and we have a chance of rain coming back into play as well. that might be a pattern that

diagnosed with everything from a heart attack to a mild stroke and had a-fib. dr.craig, i walked in one afternoon while the episode was going on, and they sent me to st. joe's. and that's how i found out. >> the help is obvious. and real quick, doctor, why is this so important? >> it's an annual fundraiser, and i am not dr. the defamation lawsuit is seeking $150 million in damages. >> brought to the table a lot of questions which were upanswerred. >> reporter: the world renowned pathologist at the center a $150 million lawsuit filed by the now 29-year-old brother of jonbenet ramsey. in an interview with cbs detroit, burke ramsey was named as the killer, an accusation that his attorney said was based on distorted and exaggerated conclusions. >> there is no place in an orderly and justice society for an individual to go out and use his so-called credentials and so-called position as an expert to brand this young man as a killer. >> reporter: police and later the da's office publically cleared burke ramsey's name.

>> reporter: law professor karen steinhauser said that the law protects people from statements, and wood is arguing that inturk -- burke is a private figure. >> he would have to prove malice in terms of the statements versus a private figure that have to show that the statements made recklessly. >> reporter: melissa garcia, cbs4 news. >> and they also plan to sue cbs who produced the mini series on the ramsey murder and also owns this station.

that's an elevation of 8,000 feet. i thought i would rub that in and make you feel a little colder. the satellite and radar for you, mostly high clouds coming in on a southwesterly flow and will bring in drier and warmer air. here's the way it breaks down. 54 at 9:00 a.m. and 66 at noon and 71 should be the high and sun, sun, sun through the weekend with a handful of high clouds here not a bad saturday and sunday gets better. we'll talk about that coming up. we have breaking news out of denver. police are investigating a hit and run involving a vehicle and a ped. and we are told that one person does have serious injuries. dpd said this happened around 5:45 and northbound speer is closed at arapahoe. any details we will bring to you here. hurricane matthew is weaker but still dangerous.

is packing winds at 90 miles per hour and is expected to reach north carolina by nightfall. >> reporter: a weakened hurricane matthew is churning slowly north after battering florida's east coast. it's bringing dangerous storm surges and heavy rain to georgia and the carolinas. meterologistssay it could bring storm surges up to 9 feet. whether they shre or evacuated, they battened down the hatches. >> if you are aren't prepared, you will get slammed. >> reporter: georgia governor nathan deal ordered evacuations of all counties east of 95. many shelters are pet friendly. matthew killed hundreds of people, the majority in haiti. there were also casualtys in florida and more than one million people left without

strong winds pushed debris and trees into the streets and waves crashing over the beaches, and now, it's georgia and the carolinas' time for the bull's eye. >> the immediate concern is life-threatening rain and water throughout our state. i cannot emphasize more life- threatening rain in our state. this has the potential for north carolina to see the worst flooding since hurricane floyd blamed for at least four deaths in florida. donald trump can be heard making inappropriate comments about women in a newly released video recorded 11 years ago. several republican leaders have condemned trump's marks including colorado congressman mike coffman who is calling for trump to step aside, and house

trump is no longer welcome at an event today in his home state. >> donald trump is reprehensible if what he said in 2005 is outside the public arena. he is a private citizen when this happened. when you look at hillary clinton and her e-mail scandal and the fact that the clinton foundation was soliciting donors for access to the state department when she was secretary of state, you can make a case her character flaws were worse the public center of her life, not private. >> you can make mistakes and recover from them and say it was a momentary lapse or a lapse of judgment but twice is a pattern. and it's more than two times he has said things like this and behaved like this. other things i found fascinating about the case, he

the day in new york preparing for tomorrow's presidential debate that airs here on cbs4 determine night at 7:00. we'll have a natural cyst on cbs4 news at 10:00. police release new video of a shooting in lakewood in hopes of getting new leads. the flash of the barrel lights up the night as the man fires his gun at colfax and policesay it's hard to identify the suspects but are asking anyone in the area at the time of the shooting to please come forward. an update to a story you told you about last week. a woman ran to a home for help. jesus garcia is accused of kidnapping his ex-girlfriend and then shooting her and a good samaritan who tried to rescue her.

arrest. >> reporter: less than a week after this violent attack, denver police were able to track down and arrest their suspect, jesus garcia. he was holed up at a hotel near 47th and vasquez. >> i didn't realize he was still in town and close by. >> reporter: homeowner brian gear, was thrust into the chaos on sunday morning when a young woman came knocking on his door, trying desperately to get away from this man believed to be garcia. the video shows gear without hesitation leaping into action. >> hoping to hit him hard enough to knock the down out of his hand and free her. >> reporter: before that

hurricane hunters flew into the eye of hurricane sample the storm. you can see it's a very turbulent flight. the meterologists dropped instruments into the storm to measure the pressure and humidity to determine the track. the wind and rain jumbled the jet after they reached the eye of the storm, and dave, we know this has proven to be a deadly hurricane it. has indeed and i can't imagine flying through those.

hurricanes, it's like the ultimate but oh, man. here, no problems in colorado so you really have to feel for those folks down there. here is the eye of the hurricane moving through north carolina. at the latest fogging, 30 miles south southeast of and winds have decreased, 30 miles per hour and it's a category 1 thank goodness. it's expected to take a turn and go across the coast of south carolina and later today, start to move out to sea by sunday and moving, taking a southerly turn. ed it, take a --tuesday, take a look. it's shooting south. and another storm system, nicole just outside of view here, and we will have to wait and see what happens with

seaboard in the week ahead. the current temperatures, 25 in meeker, 18 in gun son and 19 in alamosa. and 38 in wheat ridge. satellite and radar showing a couple of high clouds drifting in, and the warmer and slightly drier air is moving in and will give us a very pleasant start to the weekend. moisture down here and this high should be strong enough to have hold a south. some high level cloudiness may drift in but not expecting any rain from that. a few high clouds through the afternoon, but nothing heavy duty. we're in pretty good shape. mostly sunny skies and 74 tomorrow. and then we get warmer on monday at 79 and another cold front will dip us in the 50s and 60s by tuesday and
