thornton and we do have a big cool down on the way for tomorrow. right now let's check on the traffic with a major problem this morning. we have copter 4 over a traffic alert ncdot crews are trying to lay down something onto the fuel spill. they have to put salt down on it to soak up the fuel. this means the northbound direction near sixth avenue. the a and b lines are running again after early- morning problems today. jamie leary live at union station to explain what happened earlier. >> reporter: exactly. rtd took precautionary measures with 30 buses ready to go looking pretty bleak this morning with people waiting a

showing people these trains are departing. these trains a and b lines departing on time every 15 minutes with one departing in 13 minutes. officials still holding their breath. i want to explain why. they had the server that was down and it is located at i-70 and i-25 write off of fox. so rtd officials couldn't see any of the train tracks on that computer system for the a and b lines . they shut down service and they are giving people bus rides. we have seen dozens of delays as this has opened in april. right now things are running according to schedule. we are going to keep an eye on this jamie leary, cbs4 morning news. >> thank you for that.

a small fire near 14th overnight. crews found the fire on a deck late last night. everyone did manage to get out safely and no one is hurt. firefighters eventually let people back into their homes. please have found a person responsible for a deadly hit and run in denver. investigators pulled up in city park where someone was going for a police say the driver of a white charger was speeding and rear ended a previous -- previous -- prius. the driver who caused the crash ran into a nearby gas station and took off. officers say they eventually found the man swimming in a lake in city park.

yesterday sunshine will be limited with a lot of cloud coverage. take a look at doppler 4000. in the san juans we have rain and snow around telluride. down to the southwest he will certainly have some wet weather to do what today. look at all of this lightning in gunnison county. there been 54 lightning strikes from crawford this morning. we are monitoring situation. here in park county rain and snow going over hoosier pass and the further to the north up around red feather lakes. and then the one sharply have along the i-25 corridor is down to the deep. it is just enough of rain to get the pavement wet. all of this happening because a cold front that is still in

good morning, everybody. we have big problems on northbound i-25 new santa fe. we are working on figuring out exactly what is going on. >> cbs4's shawn chitnis rushed out to the area. shawn, what are you seeing? >> reporter: we can see some it is an oppressive back up. to we are also getting some information from cdot telling us there was a >> reporter: on the freeway -- a truck on the freeway and there is debris working to get possibly some material as well. this happened around 5:30 in the morning. denver police are blocking the

open. as you can see that is one of the setups that are blocked off with some traffic moving on for at least a mile or two from where we are. so it is unimpressive back up -- an impressive back up. >> it is the point where you want to avoid northbound if you can. take a this area. it was kind of hard to tell. that is the ramp from northbound as you get from santa fe this morning. let me show you the backups. we have the backups extending well before university now you can see a turning yellow and this is as we get more volume out of the roadway. we see some delays southbound

it is not like you can go along and hose down the roadway. >> it is a complex cleanup. thank you for that. you can hop on the a and b lines this morning. jamie leary is live from union station to explain what happened and things are going well right now. >> reporter: so far so good. we did see the first couple of buses depart this morning with issues with the a and b lines . another train just took off a couple minutes ago at another seven minutes or so right on time. there were some big issues this morning. i want to explain what happened. rtd told us the server was down at their operations center.

it basically meant employees couldn't see any of the train routes for the a and b lines so it is like they were flying blind. that is why they had to cancel services this morning. that is also why they are holding their breath because it was unusual. they are hoping all things will go smoothly this morning so far so good things just getting back into order. everything is running right time. jamie leary, cbs4 morning news. happening right now comcast is out all over. there is a massive comcast outage this morning affecting millions of people in several states and then includes colorado. the phone planes, internet, and cable are down. you may want to check on those who depend on that communication.

weather and traffic every ten minutes on the 4s . >> we are starting to see some light on the official horizon. we have a lot of cloud cover today. the clouds will be with us pretty much all day long. i want to show you doppler 4000 with a mix of rain and snow in the mountains and first in the san juan mountains it is mainly rain around telluride with gunnison county has had a lot of lightning with numerous lightning strikes on the north side and in the last 30 minutes 54 lightning strikes there. southpark along 285 over toward fairplay we have snow still falling and then the west side of estes park we have snow as well. we are watching this little

that is where we have a few light showers along i-25 and perhaps just enough to get the pavement wet. it is ahead of a cold front rolling into town this evening. it is going to be generally after 5 pm when it will roll through. then temperatures drop 15 to 20 degrees going into tomorrow. 40s in the mountains and the high country. very warm on the eastern plains with 90s in the mark today. down to 55 tomorrow with drizzle wednesday. we have highs in the 70s over the weekend. take a look from copter 4 with a mass northbound along i- 25. we have had a fuel spill.

happening. >> let's start with shawn chitnis who is in the field near this accident. good morning, shawn. >> reporter: good morning. we are watching the delays and the backup as we can see the ramp that goes down into i-25 where this has happened. let me step out of the way so i can show you what we are seeing for a closer look. we a happened around 5:30 pm. it did take them sometime to get there so they were waiting for denver police to begin to respond. there was a truck that lost its load spilling onto the roadway with material as well that might be part of the spill. it is a complicated situation to clean up. let's talk to joe about how to get around that.

to get on to northbound i-25 just remain open in the northbound direction so you can take santa fe. we are seeing huge backups and the extent before university out to colorado. got this long line snaking back making for trouble. unfortunately, copter 4 fly over six avenue with the right side of the highway blocked. we had an earlier accident that has been cleared at 104th. we have been watching from the high country with roads -- wet roads. it is a combination of rain and some snow and even if you lightning storms -- a few lightning storms in the mountains. up in glenwood springs 44

in the back of the building. fortunately no one is hurt. police caught up with a man they are blamed for a deadly hit and run swimming in a park. police say the driver of the white charger was speeding and rear ended a prius. two of the drivers also crashed. police say the driver of the charger ran off to a nearby gas station and took off. them. he was swimming in a lake in city park. comcast is working to fix an outage affecting millions of people in several different states. apparently the phone lines and cable are down in these areas. comcast wants you to go to your account to see when the service is expected to be fixed. rescue teams across eastern

at least three rivers will reach record levels from hurricane matthew. some of those high waters will not crest until friday. hurricane matthew killed at least 27 people and 12 in north carolina. president obama has declared a major disaster area in the state with crews working overtime to help those stranded by the flooding. helicopters are still rescuing those stranded. >> you have heavy furniture and it is all in pieces on the other side of the room. it is -- i don't understand it. >> pat mccrory said the storm left more than 1 million people of the population without electricity.

gives us a new look at the damage caused by hurricane matthew in haiti. the image is from 2013 and on the right it is after the storm. buildings have been destroyed with trees ripped up from the ground. at least 500 people have died in the caribbean. donald trump's son eric continues his campaign to colorado. he will spend time in greeley office. shaun boyd recently spoke one- on-one with a political specialist. he spoke about a rare moment when the candidates sets of a positive about each other. >> i thought it was a nice comment when she said she respected the trough children. i also enjoyed my father's remarks.
