because the weather is one amazing story. here's ashton and he's on it. >> we are on it, and we are tracking what will be an even warmer day today. we were in the upper 70s yesterday. today we'll climb at least 5, 6, or 7 degrees over yesterday. that's why i think today's record high temperature could be in jeopardy. now temperatures are in the 50s for most neighbors around denver -- neighborhoods around 30s in greeley. here's the forecast, 85 degrees for the high temperature later on today. if we get there, we'll tie the record set 54 years ago. here's joe. >> reporter: ashton, good morning. we're sticking with highway 36 and i-25 from copter 4. the traffic is moving along quite nicely, especially on and off the offramps. but of course as you're going eastbound on 270 expect the traffic to kind of pick up a little bit. britt, though, we will have your complete metro area

>> joe, thank you so much. want to rip this off like a band-aid, the broncos have a lot of work ahead of them before taking on brock osweiler and the texans here at home in a week. the broncos' offense struggled last night. they didn't find their synergy logical later in the game. a fumble late in the fourth quarter didn't help things. the o line is dealing with the hospital after the game. he tweeted saying, thank you for all your thoughts and prayers, all good. our broncos insider tell us what's next for the team. >> reporter: hello, everyone,

michael experience. this san diego offense picked and choose its poison especially early. two long drives and that's been a theme for the broncos. another slow start for this defense. >> reporter: had the offense in an early hole and the broncos' offense could not find momentum early. struggled to move the ball, hurt by penalties and turnovers late, and joe decamillis unable to get a win in his first try as interim head coach. >> i thought it went well. i just wish we could have got a organization. i'm sick to my stomach, man. i don't -- it's sickening. i hate to lose, man, that's all. i wish we could have done more to help them. >> i think the one thing about this team is the resilience and that was a staple last year as well. all the guys in that locker room, even the whole game, the sense was we were giving figure

going. too little too late. >> reporter: the broncos fall to 4-2 on the season. they'll get the weekend off and have a long week to prepare for a monday game against houston. >> reporter: we talked to a lot of guys after the locker room and said after the atlanta loss it was nice it was a short week. i said now that it's so many days what are you going to do? they said we have to get away from football a little bit and get our bodies and mind right, and then they against texans. >> coach kubiak is expected to return monday. his son gave us an update last night. he tweeted, sitting on the couch with pops watching friday night football normal. sitting on the couch with pops watching the broncos, not normal at all. let's get a check on weather and traffic now. we need good thoughts here, ashton. >> i think i can do it this

the upper 30s. in metro denver instead most of us are in the lower 50s. a light jacket will still be necessary at the bus stop, but it won't be nearly as chilly as yesterday at the bus stop. about 10 degrees warmer than yesterday morning. 50 at the bus stop. normal high this time of year, 66. the record for the date is 85. we do have 85 in the forecast for today. so yes, we are expecting to at least tie the record for this over in the traffic center. he's got the latest on your commute. >> reporter: good morning. here's a look from copter 4 at 270 and vasquez. quite a pleasant drive. a little bit west of that eastbound speeds dipping into the 40s and 30s, so it will be a little bit tougher of a drive. drive southbound coming into town, dipping a little bit, speeds about the 50s. going to take nine minutes to head south from 120th to i-70. overall no major accidents or

area. but those conditions may change. tune into our partners at koa newsradio for weather and traffic every 10 minutes on the 10's. thanks a lot. the city has slapped a notice on a popular denver bar and shut it down, looking at labeling it with a rarely used designation to keep it closed. the bar >> reporter: after a celebration for the broncos game there was a killing and now you see there's this notice letting folks know it will be closed and that's the city's decision because they do think, or at least believe, it could be a public health risk. they have decided to make that decision. again, on sunday night going into monday morning, police detectives were here looking into that shooting. they found bullet holes outside of the bar on 27th street. and it was one person who died in that shooting.

seriously injured in the shooting. that's why they have led to this decision for the public nuisance case that they are looking into and could file in the next 10 days. there's also the liquor license that's already been suspended. investigators say they'll be looking into any illegal activities that may have happened at the business. people who enjoyed coming to cold crush said they felt like this place was home for them and it was a gathering spot for so many in the community. but others in the area say that because of this bar, th neighborhood. >> just terrible down here. even with the police down here, you know, i'd ask for help, people urinating back here. >> i know i can come to cold crush and fine people that -- find people that appreciate diversity and social justice and equity. >> reporter: we were unable to get in touch with the owners of the bar to get their reaction. the next step is an investigation into that public

in the next 15 days. but the bar is closed for now. live in denver, shawn chitness, cbs4 morning news. >> shawn, thank you so much for explaining that. today a judge will sentence the man who sexually assaulted a woman at gunpoint near sloan's lake. david new man attacked the woman in 2001. dna helped police arrest him in october of last year. a disturbing find in the north desert hikers find human remains. this is northwest of grand junction. the coroner's office is working with colorado mesa university students studying forensics. crews were out yesterday to recover the remains. investigators say they are reviewing missing person cases to figure out an identity. take another day off the calendar. the election day is now just 25 days away before it's over. donald trump holds two events

sexual assault allegations against him as he has been doing. he went on the defensive yesterday during a rally in florida. he took particular aim at a writer for "people" magazine who says he forcibly kissed her during an interview at his florida estate back in 2005. >> you take a look, look at her, look at her words, you tell me what you think. i don't think so. i don't think so. >> magazine retract the article. hillary clinton faces new questions after wikileaks published more e-mails that links to her campaign. some of the exchanges reveal tension between top aides and issues over how to deal with clinton's e-mail problems. the clinton campaign has yet to authenticate the leaked e- mails, even saying some may be fakes. clinton is holding a fundraiser in seattle today. new this morning, united

computer system outage. flights are running on schedule at dia. flight service stats show about 20 united flights delayed at one point, though. we have new video this morning showing the future of space travel. boeing and colorado based united launch alliance are showing off this new commercial spacecraft. it offers greater stability. test flights should start in to follow. >> that is cool stuff. cubs know who they're facing tomorrow night after a win or go home game in washington, d.c. >> the los angeles dodgers are headed to chicago. >> yes, they are. dodgers beat the nationals 4-3 last night, thanks in part to their starting pitcher, clayton kershaw, who came in to save the game for l.a.

we're starting to see a little bit of light on the eastern horizon. enough light to see the skies are clear above us. the clear skies along with the southwesterly breeze today will push temperatures into the mid- 80s. we are expecting a record high temperature today in denver. it will stay warm for the weekend. a lot going on this weekend, including the rock 'n roll half marathon in denver. 5k is ata.m. tomorrow morning, 60 and sunday, 52. it will end up being one of the warmest marathons we've had here. 30s in the mountains this morning. 30s and 40s on the eastern plains, including 44 at la junta. 52 currently at grand junction. wind speed at 17 miles per hour. whenever we get this warm, we start getting concerned about the fire danger. generally speaking the winds should not be strong enough today to elevate that fire danger higher than normal. we have to be careful.

but overall the fire danger shouldn't be higher than normal. 85 later today. a few clouds in the western slope. but high pressure is going to dominate our weather, keeping us sunny today. meanwhile, enormous storm system in the pacific northwest. this will bring 16 trillion gallons of rain. that's more than hurricane matthew brought to the southeast. northern california, oregon, washington, they are going to get soaked through the weekend. but that storm will stay to the north of us. we're just going to see clouds around here tonight. 85 today. tomorrow 80. 81 sunday, and 80 monday, and a cold front drops us to 64 tuesday. this is i-25 and bellevue. you can see in the southbound direction, actually northbound direction, quite a few more cars on the road. in fact, it's slowing down quite a bit. but otherwise, thankfully, nothing too bad happening on the south side of town. as we take a look at the rest

looking good, except for eastbound i-270. there's just slowdowns after that i-25 interchange. thankfully, no major accidents or stalls to report. great news for a friday. there's a new report on wells fargo and bad news for your winter heating costs. it's already time to think about that. this is the news on wall street. jill wagner is live at the new york stock exchange. it's hard for us to think about winter, jill, because we're going to be in the 80s today. >> reporter: that sounds lovely. it here. as you were reading that intro, i'm so not ready for winter. anyway. on wall street yesterday the dow fell 45 points. nasdaq dropped 25. looking like we'll see a bit of a rally. wells fargo just reported its evenings for the last -- earnings for the last quarter and they were better than expected. they had $185 million fine

their knowledge. ceo john stumpf resigned this week. $5billionof recalls for the samsung phones. they're giving $100 in credit to customers as an incentive for them to turn in their phone. as we were just saying, expect your heating bill to go up this winter. the energy de for electricity, natural gas, heating oil and propane. and meteorologists predicting a colder winter than last year. we were very spoiled in new york last year. >> life seems to get more expensive. thanks for the update. parts of the pacific northwest are preparing for torrential rains and even hurricane force winds brought on by the remnants of a typhoon. winds of up to 70 miles per

look at that rain come down there. strong gusts have hit the coast yesterday. 18inches could fall in some places. snow expected in the higher elevations there. it will head east, but as you heard ashton say, this will stay to our north. the zika virus is spreading to new areas of heavily populated miami. the cdc is now confirming five new locally transmitted cases in the little river area. their partners may not want to go to any part of miami dade county right now. three u.s. airlines are taking steps to protect people from samsung phones. alaska, virgin and delta are equipping their planes with fire proof bags. they'll be used to contain the devices. people had to evacuate one

one caught fire. here's mark haas with your sports. >> reporter: trevor siemian returns. but he started a game the broncos did not win. the broncos' offense struggled to find any rhythm against the chargers on thursday night. ey did not cross mid-field in the first half other than recovering a fumble on a punt. they could not run the ball. didn't get much offense until broncos' offense not making excuses. they did not blame the fact gary kubiak wasn't here or the short week. they said they didn't make enough plays. >> at the end of the day, it comes to making plays. i didn't do enough tonight. >> reporter: did they do anything differently up front? >> definitely not. everybody they had we saw. we have to execute better and our play makers got to make plays. i don't want to sound like i'm repeating myself. when we get the opportunity to

here's a trouble spot on copter 4, this is the ramp from i-70 to southbound i-25. as you can see, that accident in the left lane there. britt, i will give you the impacts from this crash and your full metro traffic report coming up. thank you, joe. violence outside a business prompted the city of denver to implement a rarely enforced law. the city shut down a popular bar and now people are asking why and how. shawn chitness is live fo and larimer to explain. good morning, shawn. >> reporter: britt, good morning. quite a week for this business. it started off with a deadly shooting and now ending with this new move by the city that is at least for now closing the bar. take a look at what we saw earlier in the week, as well as a couple of days ago, as the city was making this move. there were bullet holes just outside of the business when denver police detectives were here looking into that

so later in the week we're learning about this move from the city. some in the area are happy about it. others not so much. coming up at 6:45, we'll hear from both sites and explain the -- sides and explain the steps the city will take. shawn chitness, cbs4 morning news. a man wanted in a 1989 murder in mesa county is now in custody. police arrested 67-year-ol he was prosecuted under mexico's justice system in 2009 with the cooperation of mesa county but didn't get a conviction. the mesa county's d.a. says he believes they have the right to prosecute him in the united states. boulder prep high school officials suspended a group of students because they were part of a facebook page that seemed

appreciate that. for more info check out our web site, cbsdenver.com/weather watchers. thanks, ben. >> reporter: ashton, good morning. we start with a traffic alert. this is eastbound i-76 at 74th. you can see the car kind of spun out of control there and is facing the wrong way, facing westbound. that right lane, that exit lane is partially blocked until you get around the incident. no major traffic delays, but they could start to grow as let's start with another trouble spot. there is an accident on southbound -- the ramp to southbound i-25 from both sides of i-70. as you can see, quite a bit of traffic starting to pile up there as cops are trying to get the cars out of the left lane. joe, thank you so much. you may notice a lot of police and first responders at the erie community center today. police are training for emergencies there. the erie community center will

reopen for kids' night out at 7:00 tonight. families in parker say they have a lot to be thankful for after a scary wildfire. copter 4 over the scene yesterday. flames came within feet of beautiful new homes yesterday off crow foot valley road. that fire crept up a hill quickly, burning about 30 ache ears of -- acres of land. people are grateful crews kept them out of harm's way. >> i feel re colorado is a dry area, and you wouldn't think there would be a fire in october, but it can happen any time, anywhere. >> thank you, because you saved my house, my family. yeah, just thank you for all your hard work. >> things are dry now. doctors treated a firefighter for unknown injuries and another for smoke inhalation, both will be okay. some colorado school districts are banning clown costumes this year, after

the greeley evans school district 6 banned clown costumes in middle and high schools along with masks and full face make-up. it's up to individual elementary schools to make a decision on the costumes. the recent threats of violent clowns to schools are being fueled by social media, all so far have been hoaxes. happening this morning people will honor a fallen marine for his service. lance corporal brandon pearson he later enlisted in the marines where he served two tours of duty. he died in afghanistan in november of 2010. today school officials and a group called boots 66 will honor brandon with a piece of art at the school. >> that is beautiful. honda is recalling 350,000 civics because their parking brakes may not work correctly. a software glitch may prevent

accidents or injuries so far. the problem, though, affects some of the 2016 civic coupes and sedans. today a group wants to end global food waste and they're heading to skyline park. feedback global will provide 5,000 free meals from 11:00 until 4:00 today. the group put on similar events in other cities, including new york. thin growing food waste around the world. they'll use 2,000 pounds of food they say would have been thrown out. donald trump's latest response to allegations of bad behavior, even assaults on women. we have new video. this is out of bermuda. a man taking on a hurricane. we'll show you this. a tough loss for the broncos. what the players are saying as they look to prepare for the

welcome back to the cbs4 morning news. it is going to be a very, very warm day. temperatures topping out in the mid-80s later on. we do anticipate at least tying a record. sunrise, 7:09. we have about half hour to go. we already have enough sunshine now on the eastern horizon to see just a few clouds overhead. the clouds will clear out and overall this is going to be a very, very sunny day for us as

record, which is 85 on this date set back in 1962. also going to be a warm weekend. not quite 85. most of us will still reach at least 80 degrees for the weekend. your full fiveday4cast is coming up. >> reporter: here's a look at i- 70 and i-25. started out well, but unfortunately the accident on the ramp from i-70 to southbound i-25 is just causing a bunch of the road. speeds dipping into about the 20s. it will be a slow drive. in taking a look at the maps, here's kind of where those delays lie, starting at federal, even stretching eastbound as well, all the way to brighton boulevard. britt, we have another accident working in the right lane, a car ended up going the wrong way on i-76 eastbound. that's at 74. joe, thank you.

in their mouths you can bet. >> san diego came out on top last night. romi bean joins us live. oh romi, oh romi, where are the broncos in the first quarter? >> no joke. the offense was only on the field 2 and a half minutes. defense can't do much when they're exhausted. the denver broncos couldn't overcomesl sides of the ball in a mistake filled 21-13 loss to the chargers. with gary kubiak back in denver, the broncos' defense allowed 10 first quarter points. offense didn't wake up until the fourth quarter. and the team had 12 penalties to go with two fumbles. it was the second consecutive loss for the broncos who saw their 15 game road win streak in the division snapped. the trouble was plain to see at half time, when they went to the locker room at the half

up. they were down 10-3. the broncos' defense had given up 173 yards, and the chargers offense had the ball for more than 20 minutes out of the 30 minutes of play. the broncos even got a turnover at the san diego 11-yard line, but only managed a field goal. by the end of the third quarter, the broncos' offense had just 72 passing yards. it was clear kubiak was not on the sidelines. they lacked energy and didn't accustomed to seeing until a too little too late rally in the fourth quarter. bernie fowler said the loss had nothing to do with the short week or kubiak not being there. but it's hard to deny things were different without kubiak. >> we don't make excuses. that's not the reason we loss. we can't beat ourselves. we're not blaming the short week, coach kubiak. we got to be better than that. >> reporter: you have time off. what do you do to hit the reset button, refresh a little bit

about 10 days? >> put this game behind us, learn from it. play like what we are. >> whoever is coaching us, whoever is playing quarterback, we believe in them. we just got to go out there and make plays and win games. >> it's hard to deny kubiak has some things to address when he returns to work monday. the broncos have 10 days until brock osweiler and the houston texans come to denver monday see the chargers again, this time at home. a lot of friendly faces. >> absolutely. when we were watching this game it's as if they lost some of their luster. the team lost chemistry. i'm wondering could the quarterback's injury played a role in this, and if so, what's next for him and for the team? >> there were some comments trevor siemian did look a little stiff, didn't look quite right. i think the biggest thing goes
