at a metro oil refining. orange and back -- black smoke into the air. our viewers, thank you, you sent in a lot of pictures. crews closed 270 and some people in the area did report hearing a boom and karen, people all over the front range wanted to know what was going on. >> yeah. we heard from viewers as far away as the tech center and lakewood. this happened at the suncor energy plant, in commerce city right between d 270. melissa garcia live near that planned for us and this did cause quite a bit of concern. >> reporter: a lot of concern, karen. the latest right now outside of suncor is that brighton boulevard is shut down again between 56 and 60th avenues. you can see the roadblock right here where we just spoke with a suncor security employee who told us they are about to start

shut down since just after noon. thick orange yellow and black smoke could be seen from across the city after a sudden power failure at suncor energy in commerce city. a suncor spokesperson says the power failure caused what they call an operational upset leading to abnormal emissions in one of the facilities units. the smoke was created by what they call a catalyst dust a clay like substance with oil in it. refinery workers shut wn to designated safe areas. i-270 shut down to i-76 in both directions. roadblocks surrounding the facility caused significant delays for drivers, south adams county fire officials say their equipment did not detect hazardous chemicals. we talked to witnesses who heard a loud sound and saw flames. >> as i was going by it i look

i got the heck out of the way and got out of the area. but when i tried to come back to go home, they had the roads closed. >> at first it looked like there was flames coming out with the smoke. but i got my binoculars and it was just a really, really dark orange coming out. and the other smokestack was just shooting huge flames out the top. and black smoke. >> reporter: the emissions that had the abnormal -- that looks sort of odd, the odd color was not hazardous. >> again we're doing air monitoring to make sure that it is safe. xcel energy and heard back a short time ago. a spokesperson says they experienced a momentary outage on a transmission line to a substation that powers a suncor. the county this afternoon sent out a warning to homeowners on their phones within a two-mile radius of this facility here. we also checked with colorado health department. spokesperson told us that they do not have enough information about the release of that smoke

that was a hazardous situation, hazardous release or not. we'll have much more on this coming up tonight at 6:00 at live in commerce city, melissa garcia, cbs4 news. new developments involving a deadly crash on colorado boulevard near i-70. prosecutors have charged the driver accused of causing that crash and then taking off. police later found tyler white swimming in a lake in city park naked. among the charges he now faces, that crash killed ariel berryman. he talked to jennifer brice in jail earlier this week. >> i'm sorry that i took your daughter's life. and i just pray that you forgive me and ask for repentance for my family. and i'm sorry. >> reporter: white also told

update on the litigation after a bomb was found outside the netherland police department. the federal bureau of alcohol, tobacco and firearms is now joining the investigation. copter4 over that scene wednesday, the device was found in a backpack in the parking lot. at the police station in nederland. a source tells cbs4 someone tried to trigger the bomb possibly from a cell phone. but thankfully it did not go off. this is the news today in the presidential campaign, election now just 25 days away and we have learned donald trump will visit colorado springs and grand junction next tuesday. appearance of one of the growing list of women accusing him of sexual assault, political specialist shaun boyd at the desk for us tonight, two women accused the presidential candidate of groping them today. >> reporter: the trump campaign is promising to release information that it says will refute the claims of some of these women. meanwhile trump has turned on his own party attacking paul ryan and every other republican that's abandoned him.

donald trump says the women accusing him of sexual assault are liars. >> they have no witnesses. there's nobody around. they just come out, some are doing it for probably a little fame. they get some free fame. it's a total set up. >> reporter: he ridiculed one woman. >> yeah. i'm going to go after you. believe me, she would not be >> reporter: among the latest accusers, a former contestant on the apprentice who broke down as she talked about a meeting with trump at a hotel. >> then he grabbed my shoulder and began kissing me again very aggressively and placed his hand on my breast. >> reporter: trump's running mate mike pence told "cbs this morning" the campaign has proof that will discredit some of the women. >> just stay tuned. i know there's more information that's going to be coming out that will back his claim that this is all categorically

wikileaks continues to release hacked e-mails from her campaign chair. in one of the exchanges a poster -- a pollster argues for clinton changing her mind saying there are no other issues that labor cares about, this is it for them and they actually have voters on their side. clinton did eventually change her position on the issue something trump has used against her ever since. she said today she is not taking her lead in the polls for granted. >> we've got to work really f half weeks because who knows what can happen. >> reporter: some of the recent polls now show a close race in some states that have been republican strongholds for decades including alaska, texas and utah. trump says there's a global conspiracy to keep him from winning. speaker paul ryan addressed a group of college republicans today, criticizing clinton but never mentioning trump. karen? >> thank you. a debate between two

workers at dia say they are being kept in the dark i plan changes to the main terminal. they rallied to demand more transparency today, jennifer brice live at the airport, that rally taking place this afternoon. >> reporter: that is right, karen. airport workers gathered here today to say that when the restaurants and retail shops change when that change happens to the main terminal, they want to make sure that they will continue working here at the airport. dozens of airport food and retail workers are concerned about their future here at dia. they say the retention plan for their jobs is uncertain once the main terminal goes under construction and is redesigned. >> i have been providing for my family for 10 years. i have good health benefits. vacation. i have built seniority over the years. i have been working hard for what i have right now. and for the company just to

of people have no power this evening. more storms are expected to hit tomorrow, as the remnants of a typhoon now out to sea a rolling right towards the pacific northwest. this is the news and health. a rare and risky operation to separate twin brothers conjoined at the head is being called a success. after a marathon 27 hour surgery, the 13-month-old boys are not living life apart from each other. they shared about a models to practice and then to perfect their technique to avoid any brain damage. the boys parents waited anxiously for updates. >> we feel anxious -- do you feel anxious? how do yofeel? >> like i have a little nervous energy. >> what's waiting in my stomach is for that phone call. okay. we're into -- i call it the

surgeries. the boys now recovering in pediatric intensive care. >> what a team. beautiful story. new developments involving the samsung galaxy note 7 phone, the phones can catch fire. now faa has banned them from all u.s. flights. passengers caught trying to hide the phones in luggage will face charges, samsung announced last week it will stop making that phone. happening now a job fair for positions this holiday season wrapping up but hold on, another one plant tomorrow. target plans to hire 70,000 team members for all their stores this season. that means about 2000 jobs in colorado. so if you are interested head to one of the metro area locations tomorrow from noon until 6:00. meteorologist lauren whitney with us tonight. a good state today. >> it was gorgeous and we were just shy of our record from 1962, daily record high so we did get 85 we did get 83.

area downtown average is 66. running well about that. looking at our futurecast, current temperature is 82. still pretty one, 90 in la junta. so we have really warm weather, 80 in burlington 81 in boulder, 73 at avon, nice night in the high country. 69 in aspen, 80 in grand junction. temperatures again at dia 82 degrees and winds out of east northeast at three miles an hour. cloud cover of there today, sometimes little bit dark in some spotswe few high clouds over the denver area. but no most of us if we take a wider look at what's happening across the country we have a big system that's made landfall in the pacific northwest. some of that movie to parts of idaho and montana and wyoming but for us we do stay on the dry side because high pressure is dominating the western side of our state and the country so we're looking at that to really stay to our north overnight tonight, into the northern mountains right along the border there may be a little bit of light snow but other

very dry because of high pressure for the next several days. so go into the evening hours through tomorrow morning we do have clear skies tomorrow, little bit of cloud cover but clouds will ease up and there's just a slight chance in the northern part of the state that we get a little bit of snow tomorrow morning. but it would not be much if you get anything at all. humidity levels are also very low outside, maybe contacts are bugging you because it is so dry, also some fire issues so identity levels are below about 15%, down to 9% declutter space. i country dry as well, humidity level below 20% and that goes for the western slope as well. zooming into the denver area again it is really, really dry for us around town. also a bit windy all the way from the northwestern corner from craig to steamboat into the past, winds 30 to 35 miles an hour. here in denver we've been on the breezy side, wind in the foothills as well. i can not too bad in the denver area but as we shift towards the foothills, ready just in some spots, loveland pass 45 mile-per-hour winds glen haven winds at 25 miles an hour, because of our winds this weekend it's going to get a bit windier ahead of the next system on monday, we will get some dusty her condition so today we have red flag warning for the san luis valley and

tomorrow so fire danger is quite elevated and denver area south of town into parts of the foothills, to the corridor, fire weather watch on sunday so fire danger increases later this week and gusty winds very low humidity even if you are not under any these watches or warnings be extra cautious outside this weekend because it's going to be so dry. tonight 56 in denver, beautiful night friday night football games anything like that, super nice to be outside. 53 in burlington 46 in frisco, 52 in grand junction. tomorrow, another warm day for us, we may tie the daily record high 83 in denver, 80 in greeley, 90 in lamar, still really warm eastern plains, 60s and the high country city five in frisco, 80 over in grand junction. five-day forecast tomorrow again in the 80s. 84 sunday, windy in some areas a little bit windier on monday as the conference starts to work its way through. behind that on tuesday, little bit of chance for rain cooler temperatures to the 60s and maybe only 50s on wednesday. >> which seems normal.

reasons. health, fitness and teepees. but some run for a reason. greg moody caught up with one at the health and fitness expo of the rock 'n roll denver half marathon. >> reporter: everybody runs for a different reason. and one of the reasons is really exemplified here, with st. jude's children's research hospital. lance wheeler is one of the top fundraisers. why did you get involved in this and why are you doing this? >> when i started this and then eventually started running and riding my bike and when i started looking around there were a lot of events all over the place. the one that really stood out was saint jude because the money goes to the families and kids who don't have a choice like i did. they are at the mercy of whatever illness, cancer or whatever it is that they are suffering from. >> reporter: how much did you raise this year? >> a little over $6000. >> reporter: this is one of the reasons why people run. not only for health, and fitness, but to help somebody else.

for the second consecutive week not only have the broncos lost but they've been thoroughly outplayed. cause for concern for sure but don't expect the team to panic. they definitely have things they need to improve upon like the slow starts. they allowed san diego to score 10 points on his first two positions which really set the tone for the entire game. the penalties were a major issue, 12 flags for over 100 yards. not going to win games doing that. for the fourth straight week the running game was a disappointment. so they have work to do but it's not like they haven't faced adversity >> we've been in this situation before and we've got to make sure that our resilience and our team stays together which they will. and we lost two games i think twice if i'm correct last year, two times in a row, and turned out pretty good so i think our guys have a good perspective. >> akilah broncos will be in the concussion protocol this week. offensive lineman russell okung was hospitalized last night but
