f0 hi, everybody. welcome to the cbs4 morning news. this is the news tuesday, october 18th. i'm alan gionet. >> i'm britt moreno. ashton is tracking a little bit of a cooldown for . hi alan and good tuesday morning. our cooling trend continues for today. we're not going to have nearly as much wind as yesterday. i'm sure you noticed winds were gusting over 30 miles per hour in the denver area, especially in the mountains with gusts over 50 miles per hour. now wind has calmed down, single digits. 30s and 40s this morning. we'll stay above freezing for the morning commute and the bus

being. once the sun comes up around a quarter after 7:00, we'll see mostly sunny skies. upper level weather disturbance that will roll over the state today. we're seeing a couple of rain and snow showers in the northwest corner of the state up near meeker to the west of steamboat springs. as that system rolls in, clouds will be on the increase. as we go through the day we'll see more cloud cover. temperatures, highs in the 60s. by tonight there's a chance for seeing some rain for denver and we really need it. hopefully we'll see something tonight. we'll talk more about that, break down the timing coming up. now let's get a check on the traffic with joe. oh, joel. basically the same thing, i- 25 arapahoe through the tech center, nice drive. along c-470 in the northbound direction that's where we're seeing all the construction

the eastbound direction down past kipling. a lot of cones. we have cones in place as you get to c-470 and santa fe, where we have ramp closures and restrictions in place due to ongoing road work there. joel, thank you very much. today the campaign comes to colorado, as donald trump stops in colorado springs and in grand junction today. this comes a day before both trump and hillary clinton face off in tomorrow. ? hillary tonight ? >> reporter: hillary clinton appeared at a star studed broadway fundraiser via video tonight. >> we're in the final stretch of this campaign and we need your help. >> this shows corruption at the highest level. >> reporter: trump released a rare video message of his own on twitter, accusing the fbi

colluding with clinton. fbi's probe suggests patrick kennedy tried to get the agency "to see their way to marking the e-mail to benghazi to classified in exchange for more personnel." >> frankly it's insulting. >> reporter: it came on on cnn and defended her husband's lewd comments about women. >> i'm surprised, because that is not the man that i know. he was lead on, egg on from the host to say dirty and bad stuff. >> reporter: campaigning in green bay, he double downed.

ago are voting, illegal immigrants are voting. >> reporter: most experts say voter fraud is extremely rare in the u.s. hena daniels, cbs news. >> a poll out yesterday shows clinton leading trump by 9 points nationally. a 64-year-old man from northern california is under arrest after a bomb was found last week outside the nederland police department. the man was tracked down through surveillance video. our rick salinger has the described as a sophisticated explosive device. it was found tuesday morning outside the nederland police department in a backpack. several attempts were made to detonate it with a cell phone, but it did not explode. we've learned david ansberry stayed in a nearby hotel on two separate visits to the town this month. >> jaws on the floor and i think all of us together

people i would not have suspected this one ." >> reporter: while the bomb was being examined, crews evacuated the area. the nederland police chief remembered seeing someone fitting ansberry's description nearby. the motel was contacted. >> when i went to remove him from his room to help him with his bags he was adamant about one of his bags not being touched. >> reporter: the search took the fbi to this king and one another in longmont. video was obtained. he was eventually tracked from nederland to midway airport in chicago, where he was arrested saturday coming off a plane. >> that was rick salinger reporting. still unclear in this case a motive. among the areas being exploreed are any possible ties to radical groups present or past or maybe disputes that happened in this area. russia says russian and syrian war planes will give the

from the airstrikes. both militaries will observe a humanitarian pause from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on october 20th to allow civilian and militant safe passage out of the city. u.s. state department spokesperson says it would be a good thing, but too little too help. more help is on the way for crews battling a wildfire in southern california. fema will step in with federal funds. the cliff in custer and pueblo counties. here's our mountain newsroom reporter matt kroschel. >> reporter: this morning firefighters are hoping today they can make some progress on containment. now zero percent containment. in the distance you can see the glow from those flames and more than 100 people have been evacuated. 3,000 people either evacuated

with the sheriff that several structures have burned including at least one home. no injuries reported with this fire. it all started about 3:40 yesterday morning, and by noon it had already exploded to about 10,000 acres. crews from throughout southeastern colorado initially responding to this fire, but they are getting backup from type one team coming in to take over this fire today. we're told there will be at as attacking this fire from above, and hand crews, those hot shot crews are en route to hopefully start making progress on a containment here. a lot of folks watching this one very closely because there is a lot of smoke and this thing blew up yesterday. more winds like we had yesterday with red flag warnings are expected here in the burn area. reporting near westcliffe, matt

every little bit counts. new research finds a short walk after eating can help people with type two diabetes keep their blood sugar levels under control. doctors in new zealand found levels fell 22% for patients taking a brief walk after dinner compared to patients taking longer walks at other times of the day. people with heart issues who love their coffee may not have to cut back on it. according to doctors in brazil, they found no association between caffeine consumed and episodes in people with chronic heart problems. researchers suggest women may be able to cut back on cervical cancer screenings from current recommendations of every three years to once every five or 10 years. they say growing number of women being vaccinated of hpv are at lower risk of that

launch of an unmanned antares rocket. >> three, two, one. >> let's light that candle, folks. this was the first launch of orbital atk's antares rocket since a blast in october 2014 that wrecked the pad and destroyed everything on the supply run. this one went well. no issues. now it will deliver 5,000 pounds of equipment, research items. onll so neat. let's get over to ashton and figure out the tuesday forecast. good morning. >> good morning, everybody. yesterday that was a cold front that went by in the afternoon, the front responsible for the gusty wind we experienced yesterday. and the front responsible for the chill you'll feel this morning, especially in the mountains. many mountain areas are 20 to 30 degrees colder this morning than yesterday at this time. aspen is at 31. craig is at 29 degrees. meanwhile, in the denver area

35 at dia. 41 in boulder. it's 43 currently in fort collins. we have 40s for the most part on the eastern plains. later today our cooling trend continues. highs were in the 70s yesterday after 80s over the weekend. today we drop down into the 60s for high temperatures, including on the eastern plains with 63 in limon. most mountain towns will top out in the 50s and 60s later on today. and we will start with mostly sunny skies, but then clouds will be on increase later disturbance moves in. for now the only moisture in the state is in the northwest corner from meeker to craig a few rain and snow showers trying to make their way into route county this morning. we'll watch that. we could all really use the moisture. here's the futurecast for our friends in southern colorado. i'm afraid you're not going to see anything. as we lock at northern colorado, few rain or snow showers over larimer county.

mountains tonight. 2to 6 inches possible along and north of i-70 in the high country. for the front range tonight there is a chance of rain. best chance to the north. the closer you are to fort collins, especially cheyenne, the better opportunity you'll have for seeing rain. the farther south you are, castle rock down to monument hill, unlikely that we'd see any rain there. hopefully we'll see something here in denver tonight in terms of rain, but i don't think there will be much. after 65 today we drop down to 58 coming up tomorrow. then thursday 62. friday, 75, and for the weekend temperatures in the 70s. let's get a check on the traffic. here's joel. good morning. looks like you deliver every weekend since you've been here. awesome. temperatures in the 70s, sunny skies. great speeds along i-25 at arapahoe road. this is where they've had the construction. it's nicely lit as well, which helps for the drive. across the denver metro area,
