debate more than half a dozen women have accused trump of unwanted sexual advances. allegations he denies. experts say tonight's face-off could reach new lows in presidential debate history. tonight's debate will be separated into six sections. 15 minutes each. they will cover topics including the economy, foreign policy, immigration and supreme court. the candidates will not be making opening or closing statements. live in las vegas, el >> thank you. you can catch that right here on cbs4, and on cbsdenver.com after this newscast. we'll have a wrap up and analysis on cbs4 news at 10:00. while the candidates were getting ready, the running mates were still on the trail. vice presidential candidate mike pence spent the afternoon in durango. he praised donald trump second debate performance and says he expect him to do well tonight.

major parties nominate candidates but for others collect 5000 signatures or pay $1000 and have nine people who can serve as your electors if you win, and you are on. >> on behalf of the nutrition party -- >> the prohibition party. >> never heard of it. >> reporter: louisiana is the only state where it's easier. if you want to be a certified write candidate, fill out an affidavit early enough. >> i started a little bit party. >> i'll join that. >> reporter: a lengthy ballot makes for fatigue. >> usually people are excited about the contest at the beginning and at this point there like, this is a lot. >> reporter: some love the options. >> we had the same for such a long time. it's good we have a lot of people getting ideas out there. >> reporter: this year you have far more than two. >> are you tired of the two? >> sometimes. >> reporter: that's a good

news. secretary of state wayne williams has heard from several county clerks who are concerned about the length of the presidential ballot. williams says he might ask the legislature to make it more difficult in the future to qualify. this is the news across america. a massive gas explosion destroyed an office building and shook a city block in portland. eight people were hurt including three firefighters. two police officers, one firefighter broke his leg. it happened at a spa business, warned people to evacuate after accidentally damaging a gas pipeline. >> we were outside not that far away. and we heard and saw these huge boom, booms. the building exploded. instantly caught up in flames. we just watched it all happen. it was pretty scary. >> three blocks are closed off to clean up. none of the injuries are life-

slammed for how he handled the stanford swimmer sex -- sex assault case is now accused of giving another star athlete a break. the player was charged with attacking his girlfriend. judge aaron persky gave him a plea deal that let him avoid jail time and stay on the team. while a new judge handed down a stiffer penalty this week. now the player will spend eight weekends in jail and attend mandatory domestic violence classes. incredible new video shows a wisconsin cop nearly getting hit by her own cruiser. the officer was helping a driver with a flat plowed into the back of her parked car and crashed into the barrier. thankfully she wasn't hurt. you can see the squad car not so lucky. >> always worry about those officers. police capture an international hacker in the czech republic. no one was more surprised about it then the suspect. why he had to go to the hospital. showers and thunderstorms

two americans have died after an attack near a

this is the news from around the world. when u.s. service members civilian died from injuries in the attack. de pere were involved in the nato mission to train advise and assist the afghan security forces. the victim's names have not been released. three other americans were injured in the attack. u.s. military says the assailant was later killed. iraqi troops and kurdish allies are moving closer to the ices held city of mosul. the commander of u.s. forces says the fight to retake the territory could take months. so far troops have recaptured around 20 villages. ices is putting up resistance leaving behind explosives and firing mortars on iraqi forces. a russian hacker accused of cyber attacks in the u.s. has been arrested in the czech republic and he fainted during the arrest. had to go to the hospital to be checked out. this guy has not been identified but we do know he was arrested on an international warrant. issued by interpol.

stocks up a little bit today. the dow up 40, nasdaq grew two points and the us and he was up four. alberson stores are now safeway. you might have noticed the new signs were going up overnight outside the stores. albertson's acquired the safeway chain last year and decided under one name. the stores involved in the merger have either been renovated or are in the process. >> the fcc finding t-mobile for selling unlimited data plans that weren't really a. the company will end up paying more than $7 million in fines to the federal government. the agency received hundreds of complaints from t-mobile biggest data customers. they say their data services were pretty much unusable for several hours every day. besides the fines, t-mobile

we are now just minutes away from the presidential debate. the stage is set in las vegas. a live look inside the thomas and mack center. had the university of nevada las vegas. the runnin' rebels provide most of the excitement typically. tonight it's all about politics. political specialist shaun boyd joins us. >> especially for donald trump. a month ago before the first debate he trailed by one point. third and final debate he trails by se no candidate has ever pulled from that far behind this late in the race to win. he will likely focus on his two most recent key messages. washington is corrupt and he's the agent of change. hillary clinton will likely play it safe. do no harm, she may also try to tie trump to the republican party establishment which is largely abandoning him in an attempt to pull down other republican candidates for congress. both candidates will have to address recent controversies
