and you brought the pets inside. it is a cold morning. tomorrow is opening day on colorado ski slopes. arapahoe basin will be the first to open, and this is the picture we got yesterday from the ski area. isn't it gorgeous? the lifts for the high noon trail will open at 9:00 in the morning. our mountain newsroom reporter matt kroschel will be out there live tomorrow morning. >> finding an excuse to go skiing and report at the same time. >> tough job. let's get you started. >> ashton is in colorado's weather center. good morning. >> good morning to you. have really helped the ski areas in terms of their snow making effort. these cold overnights have allowed a-basin to announce they're opening tomorrow. loveland probably won't be that far behind. maybe another week or two. freeze warning until 8:00 this morning for denver and the front range. our weather watcher harold in parker reporting 30 degrees. he says it's chilly, and i like

now i want chili. i-25 and arapahoe road, we're replacing cones with cars, we're in that nice window where if you're traveling now, cones out of the way and light volume. joel, thank you so much. an 82-year-old is attacked at the jefferson county justice center and now the sheriff's department needs your help. they're looking for a specific couple. our shawn chitness is live with more information on sheriff's office doesn't have too much to go by, because the victim in this case doesn't really remember or have any info to give them. that's why they need the public's help and specifically they're trying to find this couple they think may have witnessed the attack inside the courthouse. take a look at this video and this picture that shows us the couple that the sheriff's office is looking for. this is from surveillance video that shows the couple near where that senior citizen was attacked. later the couple is seen at the

courthouse. an 82-year-old man was visiting the courthouse october 3rd, and after he finished up at the dmv he went to the rest room near the public defender's office. when he left he was punched hard in the face or the door was shoved into him and he broke his nose. he'll recover from those injuries, but he doesn't have much to give the sheriff's office. it's why they're looking to find that couple. if you recognize that couple or you know anything about this in contact the investigator on this case. we have that information online now at cbsdenver.com. shawn chitness, cbs4 news. the 2016 presidential candidates are looking to target key states today following their third and final debate last night. for 90 minutes in las vegas, hillary clinton and donald trump went toe to toe on issues like russia and immigration and the economy.

>> such a nasty woman. >> reporter: the showdown ended as it began, without a hand shake between the nominees. but one of the most controversial moments came when donald trump refused to say whether he'd accept the outcome of the general election. >> i will tell you at the time. i will keep you in suspense. >> that's horrifying. every time donald thinks things aren't going in his direction he claims whatever it is is rigged against him. >> reporter: at t republican senators, including arizona's jeff flake, immediately condemned the remarks on social media as did clinton's campaign. this group of uncommitted voters was left divideed. >> it will inspire disinvestigation from a lot of the population from the political process. >> to say whatever the results are i'll be okay with it, without knowing what will happen, i don't think anybody would do that about anything that was series.

side of town in ken caryl. this is the coldest morning we've had so far this season. when you step out the door you'll feel the chill. foothills areas, genesee you're at 26. conifer is at 25. bailey similar. colder for some of our traditionally cold mountain towns, leadville at 16. gunnison at 17. and 16 down in beautiful alamosa, colorado this morning. here's the plan, sun comes up at a quarter will be a slow warmup. even with full sun it will take a while to warm up. noon at 54. and a high of 63 degrees. that's similar to where we were yesterday in the afternoon of them forget about -- tomorrow forget about this cold weather. a warm up, we'll show you that in just a moment. here's joel with traffic. good morning. i think you're going to like the drive across the denver metro area. we're crash and stall-free at least on the area highways.

the bridges into downtown from the tech center there. southbound coming down into town speeds into the 50s. that's 10 minutes. five, six minutes through commerce city. the green means we're at or near posted speed limits. cbs4 was out last night talking with voters in denver about what they saw from both presidential candidates and here's what some had to say. >> i find myself at a bit of crossroads. with trump i got no substance out of it. he told us all these great things, but i didn't hear any, like, fact. >> i think the biggest thing was he contradicted himself again. he said he respects women and called our first major political nominee, major party nominee, a nasty woman. >> you are an independent. do you think either of the candidates did enough to pick up more independent votes?

she emphasized women and children, and i think most voters, once we get through this 20 days from now, it's all going to be local again, who in denver takes care of those people who can't take care of themselves. >> yes, there are problems with her foundation and her as a candidate. however, the alternative is probably not that great for a lot of us, so. >> this morning governor hickenlooper will drop off his ballot for the election. it is taking place at the 24- hour ballot box at 14th and bannock in the governor is urging voters to look for their ballots in the mail and follow his example and get them in early. this is the first presidential election in colorado where every active voter in our state gets their ballot in the mail. a few of you have contacted us with questions about postage. we have info online right now, cbsdenver.com. we break down all the postage requirements and dropoff sites across the state. police in westminster

at least one person is hurt. it was a two-vehicle crash that left the road littered with debris. happened at 88th and federal. that highway now back open after being shut down for several hours. we are seeing now new video of that crash involving a school bus that carried players and coaches with the legacy high school football team. that crash at dia killed the bus driver. our lauren dispirito tells us the crash could forever be a mystery. captured the moment a legacy high school bus carrying football team members home from an out of state game struck a concrete pillar at denver international airport. headed for the terminal, on the airport's fourth level, the footage shows the vehicle leave the road. >> we simply are going to have to call this one a mystery. there is no de finishtive answers why this crash occurred. >> reporter: after weeks of investigating, the sergeant is

findings inconclusive. whether it was clear that september day, the bus in good mechanical shape, and he found nothing to suggest this was intentional. bus driver kari chopper was killed. her husband says he believes his wife died trying to avoid an overhang, realizing it was too low for the bus. sergeant farr said that is hard to conclude. >> i would be skeptical if that were the case. there was room to bring the bus to >> reporter: three coaches and 15 students were injured in the crash. >> witnesses told investigators chopper was driving faster than the ramp's posted speed limit of 15, but not to a point which investigators think it was a factor. an autopsy here didn't show any medical cause for that crash. this is the type of morning where it's okay to bust out the gloves. it's october, 32 degrees in denver. happiness at work could be better for your overall health

canadian study that tested senior citizens who already had memory loss and thinking problems. after six months researchers found seniors who exercised showed a small improvement in memory compared to those who were not active. a new study finds overweight and obese adults under the age of 50 who eat a diet rich in whole grains may be at lower risk of cardiovascular disease. researchers at the cleveland clinic tested two groups. one ate a diet of whole grains , while the other ate refined products. those in the whole grain group lost weight and lowered their ood pressure. if you get along with your coworkers you can have better health than those who do not. a new study finds those who identify strongly with their colleagues or with their employer have better overall health and a lower risk of burnout. study researchers say on the job social links contributed to

be at 80 coming up on saturday afternoon. a big change. somewhat typical this time of year to see the big temperature swings, although we usually don't get that warm the second half of october. 26 to 32 degrees most neighborhoods this morning. stapleton at 29. 33 in arvada. 20s in the foothills. mountain towns are colder. leadville at 16. meanwhile plains, burlington you're above freezing and i'm not sure you'll fall to 32. you're at 36. lamar, la junta the same this morning. satellite not showing anything over colorado. we have clear skies. that's the way it will stay through the weekend. storm system in the midwest moves farther away from us, that allows high pressure to build in and that's why we'll see nothing but sunshine with no chance for any rain or snow other than the snow guns in the mountains over the next several days. mountain towns will be in the

upper 50s to near 60 on the eastern plains. lower 60s along the urban corridor as well. 63 in denver. tomorrow 72. and there's that 78 on saturday, followed by 77 on sunday. and 72 degrees on monday. game temperatures monday evening will be in the 60s and, joel, that's remarkable. it can be so cold for games this time of year, but looking good monday night. this is fantastic. it's like someone set the thermostat at the perfect point tech center cam, i-25 really loaded up in that southbound direction. all the headlights coming down, that will slow things down in the next quarter hour. for now, both directions alone i-270 speeds in the 50s and 60s. 5, 6 minutes both ways into commerce city. nothing onhighway to worry about. at or near posted speed limits. drive times from the east, northbound along parker road speeds into the 40s.

directions along i-70 as you make your way from i-25 to i- 225. joel, thanks a lot. a lot of folks thinking about that return of osweiler to denver monday night. >> the teams mirror each other at 4-2. and romi bean is here with a preview. good morning. >> good morning, guys. a lot of familiar faces. the denver broncos take on the houston texans in primetime monday night. the broncos need their stars to rise to the occasion. history says could be runningback cj anderson. in his last five primetime games he has averaged 92.4 yards rushing and scored seven touchdowns. six of those rushing. clearly he likes the bright lights. and the broncos need a big night from anderson. the team hasn't even hit 90 rushing yards in any of the last four games. and in the last four games he averaged 3yards per carry and

in any of those games. as a result of anderson's recent output, you should expect rookie back booker to have a busier night. this week coach kubiak said booker has earned more playing time, and it's easy to see why. he only touched the ball seven times in the loss to san diego, yet he had two of the three longest plays. >> i just think that he's had, when he's had opportunities he's done really good things. as a young player we're trying to get him going as far as protection and those type of things. he's starting to handle himself better. i think he deserves more opportunities to temperature the football -- touch the football and when he's had the opportunity he's done good stuff. >> a pumped up -- in the last three games the broncos have only two pass completions for more than 20 yards. when you look at the last three games you can tell opposing defenses don't view the broncos' run game as a threat. as a result, they've kept their safeties down field in
