sheriff's office many details about what happened or who attacked him and that's why the sheriff's office is looking for help from the public. take a look at this photo of a couple that the sheriff's office believes was there when this happened and can help them in figuring out exactly who attacked that senior citizen. this is surveillance video that shows the couple near where the senior citizen was attacked earlier in the month, and that couple is also later seen at the light rail station here by the courthouse. that 82-year-old man was visiti finished up at the dmv, he went to the rest room near the public defender's office on the first floor. as he was leaving the rest room he was either punched hard in the face or the door was shoved into him and he broke his nose. he is going to recover from his injuries. of course the sheriff's office wants to figure out who is responsible for all of this. if you recognize that couple in the photo, or you know anything about this incident, you're

we have at that contact information online now at cbsdenver.com. live in jefferson county, shawn chitness, cbs4 morning news. thanks a lot. police in westminster trying to find out if alcohol was a factor in an accident last night at 88th and federal that injured one person. it is open again this morning. an update on another crash, denver police first told us this car versus motorcycle was overnight they told us they're unsure and still trying to figure out exactly what happened. a man driving the motorcycle was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. the crash happened near the most office off colfax and cheyenne around 9:30 last night. police say they don't know if the man lost control of his motorcycle or if it was a hit- and-run. man in greeley accused of beating his pregnant girlfriend with dumb bells used in weight lifting.

attempted murder. he is being held in weld county jail on $150,000 bond. police responded to a call sunday at a home near downtown greeley and found him inside, standing over the woman who is 7 months pregnant. rodriguez will be back in court next month. an update on the junkins fire. it's burned close to 17,000 acres. cooler weather is helping firefighters and the fire is now 3% contained. but at least five home structures are destroyed. those who lost their homes were allowed to see it yesterday. we have video this morning that shows tragic school bus crash in dia last month that killed the driver. a crash that may forever be a mystery. an airport camera captured that bus carrying the football team running off the road and into an overpass support here. investigators tell us they hope to get answers from the footage, but it just doesn't

why that crash happened. nor was there anything in the autopsy of the bus driver killed that reveals anything. denver police say they're closing the case. >> we simply are going to have to call this one a mystery. this is no definitive answers as to why this crash occurred. >> chopper was the only one killed. three coaches and 15 students were hurt in that crash. we're right at the freezing mark this morning. >> very cold outside this

loss and thinking problems. after six months researchers found seniors who exercised showed a small improvement in memory compared to those who were not active. a new study finds overweight and obese adults under the age of 50 who eat a diet rich in whole grains may be at lower risk of cardiovascular disease. researchers at the cleveland clinic tested two groups. one group ate a diet consisting of mainly whole grains while the other ate refined products. those in the whole grain group lost weight and lowered their blood pressure. f0 opiate pain killers may not be addictive, according to research that says only 1% of trauma patients were taking them a year after being released from the hospital.

>> reporter: good morning, britt. crude oil prices have jumped to their highest level in 15 months. dow rose 40 points, nasdaq was up 2. futures pointing to a higher open. t-mobile's unlimited data plans not so unlimited according to the u.s. government. t-mobile agreed to a $48 million settlement for failing to tell customers it slows down speeds for its heaviest data on its web site. more fallout for wells fargo. california launched a criminal investigation into the bank. the government says employees broke the law by accessing the bank's computer system to steal customer identities and create millions of new accounts without their approval. wells fargo says it is cooperating. help for parents. disney is teaming up with dole

veggies, branded with disney characters. >> it's a good concept. jill, thank you so much. let's take a look at today's top stories. there is relief this morning in the du campus as a man with a history as a sex offender reportedly scrawling graffiti on campus is now in touch with detectives. he showed up in court yesterday in a vandalism case. he's agreed to meet with detectives today regarding the du earlier this week du students received an alert saying he had sprayed graffiti across campus. graffiti is one thing. his record as a registered sex offender was worry com. the fire department says the 20-acre fire sparked during a red lag warning in effect across most of southern california. it's dry. extreme winds and high temps

yesterday firefighters put out another fire during high winds that reached up to 50 miles per hour. no homes were in danger. the battle to take mosul from ices is moving head. advancing on a town head by the islamic state group. they have freed at least 13 villages, even after they were freed in one village, people fled in near after rumors circulated that isis was coming back. one day made a big difference for the cubs after being shut out in back to back games. the cubs served the dodgers last night. some fans in l.a. already ready for halloween. to the game now, cubs up 2-0 in the 4th. russell hits a two run homer to put chicago up. rizzo with a solo shot and cubs take a 5-0 lead.

win for her. i'm political specialist shaun boyd, cbs4 news. there are two people out there who may know about an apparent attack on an 82-year- old inside the jefferson county government building. the sheriff's deputies are asking for their help. this attack happened earlier this month and our shawn chitness is live there outside the building with more on what happened. good morning, shawn. >> reporter: britt, good morning. what's unfortunate is the victim wasn't able to give the sheriff's office too many details about their attacker, an office needs the public's help in trying identify these two people. this couple may have seen what happened to an 82-year-old man when he was visiting the jefferson county courthouse and that's why they're hoping to get in touch with them or find anyone who may know what happened in that incident earlier this month on october 3rd. coming up at 6:45 we're going to give you more details about what led up to that attack and how surprising it is when you

live in jefferson county, shawn chitness, cbs4 news. thanks, shawn. let's get to weather and traffic every 10 minutes on the 4's. here's ashton. >> good morning to you, alan, good morning, britt. hi, everybody. we have a cold, cold start to the day. temperatures starting out in the 20s and 30s all around town. freeze warning until 8:00 this morning for all the areas in the purple color. that includes the entire interstate 25 corridor in colorado. 26 to 32 degrees this morning. our we have 29 now at city park. it's 30 in ken caryl. 28 currently in thornton. mountain areas also very, very cold. teens and 20s throughout the colorado high country. meanwhile, 36 in grand junction. and 32 in burlington. cold on both the western slope, eastern plains as well. doppler 4000 is showing nothing this morning. we'll see a few high clouds overhead, that will be it. cold front making its way

rain from dallas to st. louis up to cleveland, ohio. there could be a few weather related issues. for us, high pressure dominates our weather until early next week, when a storm system will make its way toward us. probably some rain for western colorado middle of next week. at this point the rain chances for denver and the front range look bleak at best. we're talking 50s today in the mountains. same situation on the eastern plains. most of us around denver should then tomorrow 72 followed by mid- to upper 70s for the upcoming weekend. 72 on monday. and looks like game time temperatures will be in the 60s coming up monday evening. let's get a check on the traffic. here's joel. the morning commute in full swing now. copter 4turning the camera, not sure what they're looking for or at. we've been looking at the volume along i-25 at i-76. that was the last location they told us. across the denver metro area,

it's in the southbound direction at i-70. onhighway the one accident in the westbound direction of i-76 at highway 85. this earlier trouble spot in the northbound direction of quebec at 32nd out of the way. we still have police presence. we had street sweeper that went into a fence pole. so that's right at havana and, right where hampden turns into havana in the northbound direction. that's going to cause delays blocking off a portion of that right-hand lane in the eastbound ct northbound. southbound along i-225 starting to load up. southbound coming into town, we are seeing slower speeds. averaging out into the lower 50s now. then eastbound along i-270 just slow, speeds into the 30s. thanks a lot. texas police officer is being called a hero this morning for saving a toddler's life. officer chase miller was the first to get there after the boy's father called 911 saying he was not breathing. we have video from a police

tells us about the rescue and reunion. >> my son is not breathing. >> okay, not breathing at all? >> he's not responding. >> reporter: dash cam video shows the moment police officer chase miller pulled up to a texas fast food restaurant. 3-year-old braden was not breathing. his frantic mother was carrying the toddler's limp body in her arms. >> lips elevated pulse. chest compressions weren't working. >> reporter: braden's father knelt nearby and watched miller give the boy cpr. he told the boy's father to continue chest compressions while he ran to the car to grab a cpr mask. after about two more minutes, braden started breathing again. it's that heroism that led to this heart felt reunion. >> there's nothing i can give him for my son's life. >> reporter: miller received an

my son matt was murdered in laramie, wyoming, in 1998. he was befriended by two men in a bar who pretended to be gay. they offered him a ride home, and when he was in their car, they robbed him and beat him. they drove matt out to the prairie and tied him to a split-rail fence, then beat him some more and left him for dead. in the aftermath of matt's death, my family saw the best of america in the love and support we were shown. so when i see the hate that donald trump has brought to his campaign for president, it terrifies me. i'd like to punch him in the face, i'll tell ya. ahh, i don't know what i said, uhh, i don't remember. he's a mexican. i could stand in the middle of fifth avenue and shoot somebody, and i wouldn't... words have an influence. violence causes pain. hate can rip us apart. i know what can happen as the result of hate, and donald trump should never be our president. priorities usa action

difficult for the sheriff's office this morning because the victim couldn't give any details about his attacker to that department, and that's why they've put out this photo that shows this couple that was in the area when this all happened, hoping that someone can find them. this happened on october 3rd. this surveillance video shows that couple in an area near where that attack happened, as well as by the light rail station by the courthouse a little bit after that. according to the sheriff's year-old man was inside the courthouse, had done business by the dmv. then went to a rest room by the public defender's office on the first floor, and at that moment he was either punched in the face or someone slammed the door on him to the point that it made him fall back and break his nose. he is going to recover from those injuries. again, they don't have much to go with at this point, and that's why they're asking you to contact the investigator in this case, if you recognize

cheyenne around 9:30 last night. they don't know if the man lost control of his motorcycle or if it was a hit-and-run. now the latest on the junkins fire burning in southwest colorado in pueblo near custer county there. outside of pueblo. it's burned close to 17,000 acres. cooler weather is helping firefighters and the fire is now 3% contained. but at least five homes and more than a dozen other structures are just gone. e yesterday. we have video that shows the school bus crash at dia last month that killed the driver, a crash that may remain a mystery. an airport camera captured the bus running off the road. investigators hoped to get answered from the footage, but it doesn't show conclusive evidence. nor was there anything in the autopsy of the bus driver that

road. denver police are closing the case. >> we simply are going to have to call this one a mystery. there is no definitive answers as to why this crash occurred. >> three coaches and 15 students were hurt in that crash. police are looking for a driver who they say intentionally barreled a car into a thornton business. take a look at the video. the smash and grab was caught on surveillance video. it shows burglars breaking monday. the thieves busted windows, broke frames and got away with more than $2,000 in goods. the shop owner believes the suspects may be under age. >> anybody that comes in here is carded, and if they're not 18 they get sent out. had they been in here and looked before they would have known where our good stuff was, would have gone after that. >> this is unbelievable. the shop owner says she's been

could be runningback cj anderson. in his last five primetime games he averaged 92.4 rushing yards, and scored seven touchdowns. six of those rushing. clearly he likes the bright lights. the broncos need a big night from him. the team hasn't even hit 90 yards rushing in any of the last four games. and anderson needs a big night, too. in those four games anderson has averaged just 3 yards per carry and hasn't rushed for 50 yards in any of those games. output, you should expected rookie runningback devontae booker to have a busier night. this week coach kubiak said booker has earned more playing time. he only touched the ball seven times in the broncos' loss to san diego, yet he had two of the three longest plays. >> i just think when he's had opportunities he's done really good things. as a young player, we're trying to get him going as far as protection and those type of things.

better, so i think he deserves more opportunities to touch the football and when he's had the opportunity he's done good stuff. >> a pumped up run game would help them get the ball down the field in the passing game. the last three games they have only two pass completions for more than 20 yards. when you look at the last three games, you can tell opposes passing games as a threat. you won't see the big plays everybody loves until they set the tone in the run game. >> we talk about the broncos knowing what is going to happen with the quarterback situation. then you wonder how much the texans know our coach. kubiak well known there. >> wade phillips coached there, dennison coached there. kubiak kind of brought everything with him.

on scene now, getting ready to transport somebody. they were working near the wheels of one of those semis. original reports were that somebody had been hit. could have been a cyclist and trapped in some of the wheels there that we have in the semi. we're going to continue to watch this. life flight on scene. a portion of that roadway blocked off. across the denver metro area, couple of other trouble spots we're following, we've had a street sweeper that went off the road, heading eastbound along hampden. didn't make that northbound turn to get to havana. then we've got an accident as you get on chambers near i-70. not on i-70 itself. the only on highway accident now is traveling westbound along i-76. there at the top of the screen. it's at highway 85. here's a look at the speeds. southbound coming into town looking great. slow eastbound along i-270 through commerce city with speeds in the 20s.
