developing story as deputies arrested two high school football players for crimes related to bullying and hazing. the two high school students were arrested in evergreen this week. they won't be joining teammates on the field tonight. melissa garcia checking in live from evergreen. your learning more about what happened. >> reporter: we are. the evergreen high school principal sent out this letter yesterday afternoon to parents informing them of that authorities say has been going on for months. school officials say the district took swift and appropriate action in ongoing hazing and harassment that deputies say has been going on for months. the evergreen high cougars will be without two players at friday night football game against the conifer lobos. deputies arrested the 15 and 16- year-old sophomores on wednesday for felony menacing and misdemeanor harassment. the charge stems from what happened on campus monday when a 16-year-old allegedly

piece of broken glass. a jefferson county crf said the broken glass is considered a deadly weapon. >> our school is a really good school but some of the people make really poor choices. >> reporter: officials say the bullies have targeted for of their peers for months. those victims are 14 and 15- year-old students who also attend evergreen high school. while officials would not talk on camera the students we spoke with say staff and faculty go out of their way to try and prevent bung the best in the state that has lowest bullying. this is the first incident i've heard of. >> we have posters everywhere. that really helps our school. but some people just ignore it and make irresponsible stupid decisions. >> reporter: a spokesperson says in addition to the criminal charges the district suspended the two players from school and kicked them off the football team. what we don't know right now is the motivation behind the

deputies say their investigation into this is ongoing and the suspect identities right now are not being released since they are juveniles. melissa garcia, cbs4 news. new information about a hit and run that injured a motorcycle rider. happened this morning on i live near valencia and unincorporated arapahoe county. the driver took off. police say two hours after the crash the driver returned to the scene. 52-year-old juan chavez is facing charges. the name and condition of the 33-year-old victim not known tonight. update after a theft at a liquor store turns dangerous for a witness to that crime. the suspect shot at the witness outside the liquor store on pq near wadsworth and jefferson county. jennifer brice live at the scene tonight. luckily the witness was not hurt. >> reporter: that's right, karen. take a look, police say four suspects went into this liquor store, robbed it, stole bottles

were fired once they were outside the store. when a witness tried to get information on the suspect car, that witness was shot at while in his yellow jeep. his car was hit by a bullet. he says he is okay. no injuries. we know the suspect left the area in a blue nissan altima. they are looking for three men and one woman. deputies say they are questioning several people in relation to this robbery. as for the shopping center would here is also a daycare. this father came in to get his kids. >> after i realized her teacher told me they were in the playground once they heard the shots, then got a little bit more real for me. unfortunately this -- we live with this every day. >> someone who was outside the store at the time saw them go in. they became concerned and he tried to get the vehicle and

driver crashed into her car last summer. andrea flores has been covering the story since the accident. joins us live in thornton. truly an emotional moment today. >> reporter: really was. emotional day here at this race, alyssa was told it would be at least a year before she was even able to walk again but today, she exceed those expectations and did the once unthinkable. three months ago, alyssa's dreams of running were shattered when a suspected drunk driver 32-year-old frederick on the run from police hit her car. head-on. >> i had a broken femur, i broke my jaw, and then i had a compound fracture in my arm and i shattered my elbow. >> reporter: doctors told alyssa she would spend most of her senior year in a wheelchair.

,, i've seen what can happen as the result of hate. my son matt was murdered in laramie, wyoming, in 1998. he was befriended by two men in a bar who pretended to be gay. they offered him a ride home, and when he was in their car, they robbed him and beat him. they drove matt out to the prairie l fence, then beat him some more and left him for dead. in the aftermath of matt's death, my family saw the best of america in the love and support we were shown. so when i see the hate that donald trump has brought to his campaign for president, it terrifies me. i'd like to punch him in the face, i'll tell ya. ahh, i don't know what i said, uhh, i don't remember. he's a mexican. i could stand in the middle of fifth avenue and shoot somebody, and i wouldn't... words have an influence.

cyber attack knocks out websites across the east coast. shortly after 7:00 a.m., well known sites went off-line. twitter, spotify, netflix and visa. the attack appears to have targeted a major internet management firm that provides services dozens of websites. someone unleashed a denial of service attack when a flood of bogus traffic overwhelms the servers. >> kind of shows you this is the new wave of we're dealing with right now and while we don't know where this is coming from the magnitude does lead to believe it was targeted at american- based companies. >> no group has claimed responsibility for that. we do know a raccoon is to blame for a power outage that left 27,000 people in the dark this morning. you can see from copter4 the dark neighborhoods about 10 after 6:00 excel says the animal got into equipment and substation, knocked power out to homes businesses and traffic

open as conditions allow. the season ahead looks pretty good across the state as other mountains open up their terrain. loveland ski area which usually competes to be the first to open sent a tweet congratulating a-basin and said it hopes to open next week. temperatures hovering around 80, hard to believe there's any snow out there. ski season starting and it is 15 degrees above normal for this time of year. nothing going on on radar. picture northern corners, showers behind the frontal system. and cold front earlier in the week all well to the east, showers and thunderstorms along with it. nothing going on over the rest of the nation but we have the cooler weather now spreading over most of the west. the southern corners we had the heat 87 in miami, 96 in phoenix and upper 80s in los angeles and san diego. some of this heat is going to rotate into our area. 60s yesterday, 78 today,
