hi everybody, welcome to cbs4 morning news, right now 4:30. this is the news, monday october 24th. i'm alan gionet. >> and i'm britt moreno. thank you for joining us. we hope you had great weekend. it was spectacular in the forecast. let's find out what monday is bringing good morning ashton. what's the weathered story? >> everyone -- weather story? >> everything worked out for the weekend. today really won't change very much. in fact it's a mild start to the day considering the coolen day is now late -- calendar is now late october. it's 45 in boulder, usually this time of year waking up to temperatures close to freezing. we're a good 0, 15 degrees -- 10, 15 degrees above normal. you can see moisture over here in utah. and that will make its way into

there's a slight chance for a few rain drops or snow flakes in the hiker today. for denver in the front range we'll stay dry for today including for the game this evening. but we will see the clouds and the on increase today. -- on the increase today. highs in the upper 70s and go about 77 in denver. and then kick off temperature right around 70 degrees. let's get a check on the traffic with joel. welshing we start off with a little trouble spot that's just i-25 and arapahoe road. really continuing to do some construction. you have the flashing li up. but look at the new pavemented. that's fresh -- pavement, that's fresh asphalt but the road closed underneath i-25 as they do that work. we have some road work going on along c-470 britt south of 285 and then look highway 6 we've got that closure as you come into golden as well. joel thank you. denver police are investigating a murder this morning in green valley ranch. a shooting yesterday left a man

normally considered a quiet neighborhood. >> reporter: early sunday morning just before 6:00 denver dispatchers received a call of shots fired at the 4700 block of ireland court. >> when air forces got on -- officers got on scene they found an adult male suffering from gunshot wound. >> reporter: the victim was shot more than once. police aren't sure what led up to the shooting. >> as well as to process the sen over there. >> reporter: -- scene over is there. >> reporter: whether or not they had identified a suspect. >> it appears the individual who was shot is not a resident of that address. >> reporter: details on the investigation were limited as police executed a search warrant. >> we need to do our due diligence and really discuss publicly what might have occurred there. >> reporter: but police add those who live in the neighborhood should not fear there are their safety. >> we don't leave there's an imminent risk to members in the area. >> that was the newest member

dillon -- team. dillon thomas for us. police are asking you to give them a call. aurora police say a man is dead after a shooting yesterday yesterday afternoon near 30th and i-225 and we're learning that this could be a case of self-defense. officers first responded to investigate an assault around 3:30 in the afternoon off baranmor parkway. police say when they got to the scene they found a man with a neighbors say the -- neighbors say the circumstances are very bizarre leading up to the shooting. >> he came inside our house and stopped over -- stepped over where the doorstep is. we asked him what are you doing here and he's like i thyme not i don't think place but he wasn't being very responsive. it didn't seem he knew who he was or what was happening. >> the witness says the man then wandered across the street and started reaching for his

frond yard of the home. he was pronounced dead at a local hospital. there's no suspect wanted at this time and there's no danger to the community police say. another weekend shooting left a person dead in denver. neighbors knew the victim say he leaves two children. that shooting happened at a liquor store at 0th and park avenue on -- 20th and park avenue on saturday night. a witness says the victim ran inside after he was shot. police say it started with an argument. >> it's kind of horrifying. it makes you want to move out of the city for sure. e >> reporter: neighbors say that victim was in his 30s and lived nearby. nobody has been arrested in that one. with 15 days left until election day, hillary clinton and donald trump are stepping up their efforts in key states. a cbs news poll out on sunday shows clinton leading trump by three points in florida.

latest -- has the latest. >> reporter: and blasting donald trump at a rally in charlotte. >> he refused to say that he would respect the results of our election. some people are sore losers and you know we just kind of keep going. >> reporter: stumping for clinton in las vegas, president obama criticized republicans for backing the gop nominee. >> when you finally get him on tape, bragging about ac that qualify as sexual assault and his poll numbers go down suddenly that's the deal breaker, what took you so long. >> reporter: a number of pivotal states are slipping away from trump including the usually red state of texas. it shows trump leading clinton by only three points in the state. >> we are behind. >> reporter: despite the dire numbers, trump's campaign manager kellyanne conway says he still has a chance. >> our advantage is that donald trump is just going to continue

the people. >> it's rigged. it's broken. it's corrupt. >> reporter: if florida yesterday at a rally, trump continued to question the u.s. voting system as well as polls showing clinton leading him among women. >> i really think those polls are very inaccurate when it comes to women. i think we're doing better with women than with men frankly. >> reporter: early voting is set to begin in most florida >> he continues campaigning in florida today and hillary clinton heads to new hampshire where she will have a rally with senator warren. millions of americans already bailed in the -- mailed in the ballots but in colorado starting today. early voting centers are open in all 64 counties across the state. now we tacked with several local -- talked with several local voters and some prefer mail-in to their ballots while others like that security of voting in person.

the ballot beforehand. and being able to read through everything and make my decision. before going into the actual polling booth. i feel like it's a more secure hand-off. >> it's a good point. takes a while. centers will stay open until november 8th. election day. if you do plan on mailing in your ballot and don't forget the extra postage because it's kind of heavy, and you want to sign your return envelope of course before you send it in. 68 cents it costs to send it in in places like arapahoe county. >> hena daniels joins us hive with the morning's -- live with this morning's money watch. a big cool over the weekend. >> reporter: that's right. good morning guys. last week stocks were sluggish and investors will wait to see after a mixed close on friday. the dow slid 16 points. the nasdaq gained 15 and right now futures are pointing up. at&t's proposed $85 billion bid to buy time warner

concerns. prompting the senate's antitrust committee to schedule a hearing for next month. it would combine at&t with the company that owns cnn and hbo. the acquisition still needs to be approved by the doj. for the second straight year, sporting goods retailer rei will not be opening its doors this black friday. despite it being one of the busiest shopping days of the year. it's part of the store's campaign to encourage people to spend that day outside inside shopping. online shoppers can put items in their carts but no orders will be processed on black friday. and guys how about thin mints for breakfast? get ready for girl scout cookie cereal. the girl scouts and general mills are producing the limited edition cereals. both flavors are expected to be available nationwide come this january. back to you. >> i love it. that time of year for girl scout cookies the best. >> all right.

all right thanks. >> look how neat on a monday. a bus crash over the weekend is under investigation in california. that crash left 13 people dead and dozens more injured and reid binion has the latest. >> almost 35 years i've never been to a crash where there's been 13 confirmed fatal accidents. >> reporter: authorities in california briefing the process in the hours follow -- press in the hours following the deadly crash. >> the 1996 freightliner truck with a trailer in the number three lane. >> reporter: the tour bus was returning to los angeles from a casino early sunday morning. survivors said most of the passengers were sleeping at the time of the crash. >> the majority of the people who were killed were in the front section of the bus. >> reporter: the bus driver also killed. the two vehicles reportedly so mangled that rescuers had to use a crane to search for victims in addition to that, dozens more passengers were injured and taken to area

known. the tractor-trailer and other vehicles slowed down according to police due to maintenance on the roadway. >> there didn't appear to be braking skid marks on the bus. >> reporter: the bus was going faster than the big rig. >> when it hit the back of the big rig the trailer, the trailer itself entered about 15 feet into the bus. >> reporter: i'm reid binion reporting. >> terrible crash there. fire burning southwest of contained. firefighters say higher than average temperatures are still making it hard to put out. they have aerial attacks going. the fire has now destroyed nine homes and 18 other buildings and it has burned more than 18,000 acres and it started last monday west of pueblo in the mountains. crews think it's going to take until mid-november to put that fire out. feels like it's been forever now since the broncos played a game. >> yeah but the wait is over. broncos' fans extra motivation to get up this monday morning.

at mile high after 11 days off. now the broncos are looking to snap a two game losing streak. the last time they took the field was in a 21-13 loss to the chargers. the broncos say they just want to get back into a rhythm and it always starts with a win tonight. the broncos and texans kickoff at 6:30. more on the game in sports and later this morning at 5:45 he is going to join us to talk more about the broncos. th >> an awesome weekend and ashton is talking about the forecast and the game tonight coming up. five years after being hit by enemy fire overseas, a u.s. marine in colorado is looking to help other wounded military members and their families.

are using genetic testing to help some patients avoid chemotherapy. this is the news in health. researchers surveyed more than 1500 women with early stage breast cancer and found that nearly two-thirds regarded the precise medicine test helpful when deciding if chemotherapy is necessary. researchers in north carolina say measurable changes were found in the brains of young football players after only a season on the field. even among students wh doctors say the new data indicates need for further study on the sport's impact on long-term health. and this, more americans are having medical procedures outside the hospital operating room that require anesthesia. now that's according to researchers in dallas who found more than a third of americans undergo such procedures. researchers say people having them done outside the o. r. increased 27% in the past five

ashton. let's do it. good morning to you. good monday morning everyone. live look over mile high stadium. 43 degrees the temperature there. yes 4 #. and it's the end of october. you arely we're waking up to temperatures near freezing this time of year. as you certainly know. and it will stay relatively mild for the game tonight. tailgating? temperatures will be in the 70s and kickoff at 6:30 right around 67 degrees. and then by halftime will be at 62. by the end of the fourth quarter probably be right around 60 degrees or so. ga the game tonight. 40 degrees in limon right now. 41 in akron and most mountain areas are either in the 20s or 30s. we'll see a slight chance for rain or snow shower in the mountains today. most areas will be dry with high temperatures in the 60s at least for mountain towns and in the front range highs will be in the 70s. 75 in boulder later today. you can see a few clouds in place for the urban corridor. some cloud cover on the eastern plains as well as on the western slope and all the clouds are moving from west to

the west of us. showers from las vegas up toward salt lake city. all that making its waits toward us -- way toward us. the best opportunity for moisture over the next 24 hours next 24 to 48 hours i should really say is going to be for the western half of colorado. it's going to be mainly west of the continental divide. here's the futurecast i'll pause this at 10:00 tonight. you can see some scattered showers in the mountains and for the most part, it's rain. the snow level is going to be quite high tonight. and then same thing for thunderstorm. this is 6:00 a.m -- tomorrow. this is 6:00 a.m. likely at least some vain morning. denver and if front range i hope we have a front range, we really need the moisture but the chance for actually seeing measurable precipitation here tomorrow is small. after 77 today. 74 tomorrow. and then wednesday 72. we warm things back up for the end of the week and we'll be close to 80 degrees again on thursday. mid 70s for friday and it looks dry and mild for the upcoming weekend as well. that's your weather. let's check the traffic with joel. good morning in february,

take a look i-70 and airport boulevard. you know nice wide open drive if you are heading out along i- 70. yeah a couple of construction projects there like along garrison. underneath i-70 the closure in place. you can see the slowing on the approach to that ramp there. the other big project we've been watching arapahoe road. it's closed until 5:30 this morning. the closure is going to continue through tomorrow as crews complete bridge work there from 10:00 tonight until 5:30 tomorrow morning. and then no and on ramps at arapahoe road. of course britt there will be a detour. and delays. >> okay joel thank you for that. a retired marine in longmont needs your help on the next mission. john reid was badly hurt while serving in afghanistan. but kelly werthmann tells us that's not stopping him from going on a very long bike ride in support of other wounded marines. >> very nice to have and stare

so-called man cave. >> this was us in thailand. >> reporter: filled with pictures and keepsakes from the service with the u.s. marine corps including several medals. >> this is the day i got my purple heart. >> reporter: sunday five years to the day when reid was hit by enemy fire in afghanistan. >> it's a very thick round. it's about the size of your pinky. it went through my entire arm pretty much shattering every bone in its path. i mean it popped out. >> reporter: among the many le retired sergeant's aid, members of the semper fi fund who help wounded marines and their families as they recover. reid says the group was especially hepful to his wife who was pregnant with little little lina when he was shot. next month reid is taking part in the ice man cometh in

forward. >> reporter: showing support through sport, reid hopes to raise $5,000 for the fund. it's a mission he says that has given him back his warrior spirit and one that keeps him always faithful to those he thinks about every day. >> they may be too afraid to ask for help but i know the fund is going to figure out a way to help them. they did it with me. >> reporter: kelly werthmann, cbs4 news. >> if you would like to help john raise mo fi fund. we have a link on our website. cbsdenver.com. two teams no winner. the ending to the game last night left a lot of football fans frustrated. after 3-3 tie seattle and arizona went to overtime after a field goal by each team the cardinals had a chance to win it but boing. the kicker hits the up rights on the 24-yard attempt. and well arizona's coach was none too happy.

the second chance and they get the second chance now with 13 seconds left. in overtime. the seahawks' kicker lines up for a 28-yard field goal. >> john ryan to hold. and he misses it. that's impossible. >> oh my gosh. >> that is impossible. >> wow. bad night for kickers in phoenix and arizona had one last shot with a hail mary but well they didn't do it there. 6-6 last night. losing streak by stopping the 4- 2 houston texans at mile high tonight. as we give you live look this morning. here's mark haas with the morning sports. broncos have been stuck on a two game losing streak like ten days now and they had basically a mini bye week playing last last thursday in week six and now in monday in week seven. so for a week and a half to think about how they went from cruising along to now looking at their first three game

the board. offense has really struggled. failing to score a touchdown until the fourth quarter of both losses. and the defense? they've been slow starting as well. they've given up first quarter touchdown drives in five of six games the year. that equals last season's total already. >> this is an opportunity to get back on the winning track you know, get back to playing broncos' football. because we got away from that the last two weeks and get back to our identity and play like 'v 6:30 tonight. we'll see you from mile high.

we have 48 degrees on the east side of franktown. phil curly lives down there. but generally speaking wind is not a big deal. winter park has a wind gust of 16 miles per hour. they're the only place reporting a gusty wind at this point. but again you get down closer to the palmer divide there's just a little bit of wind. also watching a few clouds along the front range. more significant cloud cover out to the west of us. this was where a storm system is located utah and nevada and o toward us. and it's going to bring moisture mainly to the western half of the state. it's going to be west of the continental divide. that's where most of the moisture is going to be with this system. we're going to talk about it much more detail coming up here in the 5:00 hour but right now let's get a check on the traffic with joel. well, ashton i know we have a lot of cars out there this morning but what we lack in cars we make up for in cones. we do have the closure that's in place as you get under garrison on garrison underneath i-70 i should say.
