hi everybody, this is the news at 6:00 a.m. in person voting starts today in colorado. we're live with what you'll want to know before you go. and as you get out this morning, put the orange on. broncos' pride is filling the mile-high city this morning. a look ahead to tonight's match- up against brock osweiler and the texans. >> you love it in the stan into another day and wait until you see the five day forecast. good morning everyone, i'm alan gionet. >> and i'm britt moreno. almost getting ridiculous, doesn't feel like october outside. ashton is here with another warm week ahead of us. good morning. >> it really doesn't feel like october. it's hard to believe we have a ski area now open in colorado with arapahoe basin. base temperatures were in the 60s up there this weekend.

70s yesterday this morning a mild start. take a look at the map here, we have 40s and even 50s in some spots along the front range. a little cooler in weld county as it usually is. greeley at 36 and meanwhile most mountain towns this morning are in the 30s. some moisture out to the west of us. that's rain you see in utah. it will make its way at least into the hiker tonight. talk alln't it and show you a fuel -- but right now joel. good morning ashton. a look at the drive 25 and arapahoe. the closure in place tonight from 10:00 until 5:30 tomorrow morning. but for now look at the drive southbound coming into town. that should be green because we have a nine minute drive alan from thornton to denver. joel thanks. 15 days out in election day and it will be all over and you can start to vote in person in colorado today. awe our jamie herely is live at election head -- jamie leary is live at election headquarters

ballot in and we have seen a few people dropping them off at the 24 hour ballot dropoff box but this morning it's a big deal. you can actually walk right into your polling place and cast your vote in person. early voting centerings will open in -- centers will open in all 64 counties in the state this morning. will stay open right until election day. for many, that mail-in alternative has become the new norm. but others like the security of voting in person. according to the u.s. election project, nearly 9,000 early votes haven colorado. still, a majority of the people we spoke with will take that mail-in ballot and drop it off in person or this morning, physically vote at their polling place. >> i like the idea of having the ballot beforehand. and being able to read through everything and make my decision before going into the actual polling booth. i feel like it's a more secure hand-off. >> reporter: now, many people

along there. you can turn on the partners -- britt you get your traffic and cbs4 weather together. >> it was a rough weekend for denver police. a gunman is on the run this morning after a murder in a green valley ranch neighborhood. now this is only one of four shootings in the denver motier over the weekend. our shawn chitnis is live from this one happened in the 700 block of ireland court. good morning shawn. >> reporter: britt good morning and it time yesterday that police and neighbors were learning about this shooting. behind me we see the house is still closed off. and security is keeping this area tight while they have that investigation continuing by denver police. and neighbors tell us that they were surprised to see police knocking on their doors and of course investigating a crime in their neighborhood. pause it is normally quiet like this and they don't expect that type of activity here, but we do know that denver police got

morning of shots fire canned when officers -- fired and when officers arrived on scene they found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. police aren't sure what led up to the shooting. there's no description of a suspect or suspects in this case. but they do say that they collect evidence and try to get some more information from witnesses they aren't worried about anyone else being at risk in this community. one thing though is why that victim was inside this house because they don't lives here. now again they are looking for more information and trying to get some details if the public. so if -- from the public, so if you have any info, you're asked to call crime stoppers. live in green valley ranch, shawn chitnis, cbs4 morning news. today we could learn more about a shooting that left a father dead on the north side of downtown. this one happened in the parking lot of a liquor store. at 20th and park avenue on saturday night. police say the shooting started after an argument between two groups of people.

anyone. workers at a liquor store nearby say they're worried for their safety. >> just live right there yeah. it's kind of horrifying. it makes you want the move out of the city for sure. for sure. the crime is crazy here. >> the neighbors tell us that the man who died wint by the -- went by the nickname of joker, he was in his 30s and lives nearby and he left two children. the monday morning the road is back open after overnight bridge work that means arapahoe road will once again close in both directions from 10:00 until 5:30 tomorrow morning. tomorrow night northbound i-25 will close between the off and on ramps at arapahoe road. you will have no trouble knowing you are in broncos' country outside the uc health training center. take a look at this. drews are plan -- crews from planning to install permanent broncos' logos in the crosswalk at broncos' parkway and

welcome back to the cbs4 morning news. it is time for weather and traffic on the 4s and it's no temperatures are mild this morning. a continuation of our mild weekend. it was 82 back on saturday. 74 yesterday. today? 77 game time temperatures will be in the 60s tonight and tomorrow 74 and then down to 72 on wednesday. but that's as cool as it gets for this week. hard to believe it's october although this picture certainly makes it look like october. look hat this matt reynolds over the weekend just north of nederland. and it was boo at the zoo this past weekend.

very, very fun. tailgating temperatures will be in the 70s later today and kickoff temperatures 67 by halftime will be at 62. right now, temperatures are in the 40s for most neighborhoods around denver. a little cooler around greeley and fort collins as it often is. larimer weld counties in the 30s for the time being. later on mountain temperatures will be in the 60s and 78 grand junction and 73 later on in -- partly cloudy skies at least to start the day. the clouds will increase tonight as the moisture to the west of us makes its way into colorado. here's the futurecast. today's going to be mainly dry with the exception of maybe a quick shower or two in the mountains. here's 10:00 tonight. if you rain showers in the hiker -- a few rain showers in the high country. tonight eventually down to around 10,000 feet. here's 6:00 a.m. tomorrow. rain and snow possible along the i-70 corridor once you

approaches to the tunnel vail pass and berthed pass. here's 4:00 p.m. tomorrow, rain mainly in the mountains. we scowled see a shower -- could see a shower if we're lucky around denver but not much. through tomorrow night from tonight, above 10,000 feet one to four inches possible. this is not going to be a big snow event especially for this time of year in the mountains. 77 degrees today in denver and partly cloudy. unlikely that could come into tv tomorrow. after that dunny and dry from wednesday through the end of the week. here's joel with traffic. take a look from copter #. watching from the tech center up through the bridges this morning. look at that volume we have. this is loading up both directions. and that's the situation we're starting to see seasoned coming into -- southbound coming into down. don't be scared there's red on there but these are into the 50s. really should be green. nine minutes from 10th to i-70.

westbound direction of i-76 on the approach the i-5. this is the volume that we're talking about coming southbound coming down into town. with you you take a look at the cars in the express toll lane and it looks like they're moving at similar speeds just stick it out there into traffic and unless you like to engage the cruise control. southbound along i-225 a great drive and that's what we're seeing really here reflected along i-70. speeds into 60s just a three minute drive from out to i-25 and then both directions along i-70 we're seeing speeds into the upper 50s right now between i-5 and i- 225. britt? thank you joel. samsung galaxy note 7 phones are banned from something else now. more trouble for them and at&t faces opposition over the time warner deal. everybody is talking about,, this the news on wall street. hena daniels is live at the new york stock exchange. happy monday he fda. >> reporter: happy monday

will wait the see if wall street can rally after friday. the dow slid 16 points the nasdaq gained 15 and right now futures are pointing up. at&t's proposed $85 billion bid to buy time warner immediately raised regulatory concerns. prompting the senate's committee to schedule a hearing for next month. the deal would combine at&t with the company that owns hbo, warner brothers, pbs, tnt and justice. first planes, now trains. and amtrak trains are now permitting the samsung galaxy note 7 on its trains because of the risk they'll catch fire. this applies to their throughway buses and stations and platforms as well. the faa banned the note 7 from all of its commercial flights last week. and if you want to see the chicago cubs play in their first world series in 71 years, it's going to cost you.

average for $3,125 for tomorrow's game. and according to the "chicago tribune," it will cost more than $6,000 for the cubs' first home game on friday. britt? >> thank you so much. let's go to top stories now this morning. federal safety investigators are trying to figure out now why a bus driver appears not to have slowed down much before smashing into a semi yesterday in palm springs, california. at least 13 people are dead in this crash. slowed for construction on interstate 0. the crash happened at 5:00 in the morning and many of the passengers were asleep as they returned from a casino. well investigators don't know if the driver who died fell asleep or was under the influence in some way. just a mystery. most of the people killed were in the font of the bus. a search underway right now for a family member accused of

members in oklahoma. this is michael vance. he shot at the officers last night with an ak-47. they are expected to survive. police say he also stole a patrol car and then later ditched it and carjacked a woman. police have another person in custody after last night's shooting -- an operation is now underway in the french port city to clear thousands of migrants there. people forms lined today during the start of the mass evacuation. they are african and afghanistan. most of the people there trying to bret -- are trying to bet to

broncos have been stuck on a two game losing streak like ten days now and they had basically a mini bye week playing last last thursday in week six and now on monday in week seven. so for a week and a half to think about how they went from cruising along at 4-0 to now looking at their first three game losing streak in five years. there have been issues across the board. offense has really str failing to score a touchdown until the fourth quarter of both losses. and the defense? they've been slow starting as well. they've given up first quarter touchdown drives in five of six games this year. that equals last season's total already. >> this is an opportunity to get back on the winning track you know, get back to playing broncos' football. because we got away from that the last two weeks and we've got to find our identiry and get back to our identity and play like we've been playing. >> reporter: broncos and texans 6:30 tonight. we'll see you from mile high.

it's time for weather and traffic on the 4s and it is now 6:24. time the check our -- to check our travel forecast, if you're going to be leaving colorado today, plan on rain from utah, over into nevada and there's a big plume of moisture to the west of us. there northern california up into portland and seattle today as well. meanwhile, beautiful in the middle of the country. nashville 76 with sunshine today. sunny skies for both minneapolis as well as chicago with temperatures in the 50s. and after a very warm weekend, they start cooling down today on the east coast with 50s for the most part there. all airports in the country, big airports anyway are in good shape. let's check our traffic with joel. we got a traffic alert we're following this morning for you. this is from the cdot camera

the broncos' stadium is empty this morning. but thousands of fans will fill it tonight to cheer on the broncos. the team takes on the texans and former teammate brock osweiler, kickoff is at 6:30 and your broncos' coverage starts this morning. thank you for joining us and happy monday. i'm britt moreno. >> and i'm alan gionet. do some tailgating early. ashton, this is the time to do it. >> yeah. you know, it's late october but it will feel more like an evening game in early pt into the 70s today. right now it's relatively mild for an october morning. and as we look out to the east just a little bit of sunlight now showing up. well call it partly cloudy today and temperature right now at cbs4 is 49. we have 47 at dia. and temperatures in the 30s in the colorado high country. moisture coming into the state from the west. that will mean some mountain rain and snow. details on that plus we're just 12 hours from kickoff.

forecast coming up. right now let's check in with joel. we have a little trouble spot we're following this morning ashton. southbound along i-25. this is at 84th police have not arrived and just the left lane is blocked. once police arrive though they probably block off that left lane. and the express toll lane right now it's now a 19 minute drive to get you from thornton to denver. britt look at that average speed into the 20s. okay joel thank you for that. right now the person who shot and killed a man in green valley ranch is on the run and this is one of four in the denver motier over the weekend. police -- metro area over the weekend. police were busy this weekend. our shawn chitnis is live from the 4700 block of ireland court where this happened. good morning shawn. >> reporter: britt good morning, the scene has changed a bit in 24 hours but the house still closed off and security patrolling the area. but it was certainly a busy time in this neighborhood. and folks who live here were surprised to see misin the area -- police in the area knock on doors trying to get information about what happened.

around 6:00 in the morning of shots fired. and so officers were here trying to get details on what led up to this shooting. they did find a man with multiple gunshot wounds by the house there. and that man did later die from his injuries. a denver police have told us so far that they don't have a description that they can release for this suspect. but they are working on that. and unclear if there's one or multifor people involved but -- multiple people involved but at this time police are saying theyn' to anyone else in the community. the big question is though what was that victim doing at this house because they don't believe he was living at that location. so if you have any information that could help police in their investigation, you're asked to contact crime stoppers. live in green valley ranch, shawn chitnis, cbs4 morning news. thank you very much. neighbors are telling us a man shot and killed in a yard in aurora's morris heights neighborhood appeared to be zombie like. prosecutors are going to determine if there was a case of self-defense.

that's southeast of i-70 and 225 yesterday. neighbors say the circumstances leading up to that shooting really bizarre. one person who doesn't want to be identified says the man walked into his home before the shooting. >> he came inside our house and he stepped over where the doorstep is. me and my brother and my mom, we went up to him and we asked him you know what are you doing here? he's like i thyme not wrong place but he wasn't being responsive. it didn't seem he knew who he was or what was happening. >> there's no confirmation from police. the neighbors say the man appeared to be reaching into his waistband and that's when somebody shot him. he was in the front yard of a home at the time. on this monday morning, time now for weather and traffic every ten minutes on the 4s and here's a live look outside. good morning ashton. >> good morning to you britt. happy game day everybody. tvs going to be a mild day. in denver and throughout the state. temperatures above normal for this time of year.

mile high. 42 degrees the temperature. sun will be up at 7:20. so we got less than an hour to go before our official sunrise. the sun will set about 6:08 this evening. so by the time the texans and broncos kick off this evening, they will be dark but only 67 and relatively mild night halftime temperature right around 62. mountain towns are in the 20s and 0s right now -- 0s right now. -- 30s right now. we'll be in the 60s later today and aspen 68 and frisco 63. look how warm out west upper 70s in the southeast part of the state as well. we'll be in the mid- to upper 70s around denver boulder and fort collins. partly cloudy skies outside right now. clouds will be on the increase today and tonight as moisture to the west of us moves in. the promises to be a -- this promises to be a dekent rain and snow event for the high country especially with rain. not much in terms of snow but for denver and the front range we're going to have the down slope with this system from the west, therefore our chances for my rain are bleak -- any rain

chance is tomorrow. ok tonight a few shower -- 10:00 tonight a few showers in the high country. 6:00 tomorrow morning, doing over the higher mountain passes early tomorrow and then through the day they'll continue to be some showers in the mountains. snow level will be high with this system. it's so warm we're talking above 10,000 feet for accumulating snowfall. one to four inches possible along the approaches to the tunnel, vail pass and rabbit ears. to tomorrow for denver just a small chance of rain and high 7 #. and then -- 74. and then 70s each specific day it l day through the monday -- each and every day through the end of month. joel? southbound coming into town not as great. a three car accident. this is blocking off the left lane southbound along i-25 at 84th police haven't arrived at this accident still. when they do my guess they'll either block off the ebbing press toll lane -- express toll lane or it will affect start affecting the middle lane and then we really have a mess. it is dragging. look at this speeds into the single digits behind this

hour. westbound along i-76 and eastbound along i-270 loading up as well. from the cbs4 mouse trap cam heading southbound along i-a it is loading up but -- 25 it is loading up. but you look at the speeds in the left lane and the left toll lane and about the same speed. more cars out there as you get around the stadium curve and that's why we're seeing all that slowing. seeing showing as well southbound along i-225 as a matter of fact speeds into the 20s. nine minutes from parker road between georgetown and idaho springs. some final work before the winter surgeon begins. a full -- season begins. a full closure of the exit is planned for tomorrow. this will last from 8:00 in the morning until 7:00 at night. britt? new video this morning after a deadly plane crash on the mediterranean island nation of malta. a light plane went down killing all five on board. video shows the plane in flames

some of the debris ended up on a road outside the perimeter of the airport. people say the plane crashed into the ground soon after takeoff. the passengers were heading to libya's coast to monitor migrant trafficking routes for the french government. a prison staff member and an inmate are hurt from a riot at a north carolina prison. have a look at this video. small group of inmates set two separate fires at that prison in goldsboro last night. you can see the flames burning there. both fires out quickly. fire crews hope to make more progress today on that wildfire in the mountains west of pueblo. the jenkins fire is now halfway contained. the flames destroyed nine homes so far and 19 other buildings. this one is about 18,000 acres in size. in our morning news health watch, about 3500 babies die every year from sleep related deaths. now the american academy of pediatrics is issuing new guidelines for parents.

this is the colorado none of us want to lose. i'm gail schwartz, and i'm running for congress to stop the sale of our public lands. coloradans should have the freedom to use this land for ranching, hunting and fishing, not watch it sold off to the highest bidder. scott tipton wants to cut off our access to these lands for generations to come, killing thousands of jobs. i approved this message it's no secret. donald trump isn't for us. and unfortunately, congressman coffman isn't, either. just listen. and as families struggle to make ends meet, coffman voted against equal pay for equal work 11 times. it gets worse. coffman said he would support donald trump for president.
