better. that and the forecast this morning. good morning to you. as expected, we have an upper level storm system moving into colorado. also as expected, this is really going to keep all the moisture in the west half of colorado. denver and the front range, if we get a drop i'll be surprised. look at grand junction, getting moderate to heavy rain there along i-70 in the western part of the state. the moisture is its way into the high country and over time that will happen. aspen seeing a little rain, vail next. summit won't, you'll see some moisture today. upper 30s and lower 40s in the mountains, so warm that the snow level will stay up around 10,000 feet. more on the forecast and the full planning forecast, coming up in a few minutes. joel? the victory drive should be ooh good one this morning,

under i-70 as they continue to do bridge work. that closure will last till tomorrow. a fan may have fallen the equivalent of several stories at mile high last night. shawn chitnis has the latest this morning. >> reporter: certainly a scary situation for us to hear about, especially at the time this was happening, as so many people were leaving the stadium, excited about that win. but denver fire tells us they calling here at the stadium around 9:40 p.m. that was about an hour after the game was over and the broncos had gotten that win. we are told this person may have fallen up to five stories or about 30 feet, and this may have taken place by gate 5 on the north side, facing a little east there. there were emergency crews around the stadium responding last night but they were able

one person was taken to the hospital for injuries from a fall at the stadium. we were not able to get much more on that victim or their condition at this time. while it does appear this was a significant fall, we still don't have a sense of how serious those injuries are. we're hoping to learn more later today. shawn chitnis, cbs 4 morning news. the broncos honored a denver police officer who nearly died tony lopez jr. was named broncos country hero of the game last night. the department tweeted out this great picture there. he was badly wounded in a traffic stop last year. after months of hard work and rehab, he is back to work. in case you missed the game last night, hang with us here for details. and go to cbsdenver.com for

this is a neat one from during the game. more on that in a moment. let's get to weather and traffic every 10 minutes now on the fours. good morning, brit. we have been talking about this moisture moving into colorado from the west. here in denver and along the front range, we have the clouds but don't have any rain. while it's possible there could be a rain drop during th could be. the moisture for the most part will stay west of us. it's great news for the western slope. they are under a drought situation like we are here along the front range. grand junction is getting a bit of moisture over the morn. over the next several hours this will make its way into the colorado high country. so far we have not seen much. for the most part, it's going to be raining even in the high

are warm this time of year. above 10,000 feet, could be some minor accumulation. this is not a big storm for the mountains. for us, isolated showers possible, 55 at 9:00 a.m., high of 74 today. not quite the 79 of yesterday but more than 10 degrees above normal for this time of year. joel? watching c-470 north of 285 with that most of that's been cleared. this is on your way out to morrison road. across the metro, we have the closure of garrison under i-70. i-270 through commerce city, a few delays out there. i think you'll like this, nine minute minutes on the i-70 drive. neighbors say it could cause too many fires and local

be the highest risker area in the front range. today a hearing to determine if the catholic arch diocese can construct a catholic retreat off highway 285 and south elk creek road. this morning's meeting is set to happen jamie leary. >> reporter: there's been a lot of vocal opposition on the subject, including from a local fire chief. the chief called this the range for a fire and said a blaze would be unstoppable. it's an area that's seen destructive hires in recent years, including the buffalo creek and high meadow fires. the chief is urging commissioners to kill the proposal. the plans for the religious retreat include a conference center with a lodge, cabins and a youth center which could host thousands of visitors every month. officials say they are the last

fire risk and would create a mitigation plan. unfortunately the subject of its last retreat is always a point that comes up in these discussions, burning down five years ago in an accidental fire. the hearing the set to begin at 8:30 a.m. and commissioners are expected to vote on whether or not the arch diocese can change the zoning on this 250- of land. jamie leary, cbs 4 morning news. new this morning, the reward to catch the people who killed a security guard is up to $50,000. two men killed travis mason in june while he worked at the green heart dispensary in aurora. that was caught on security video. he'd only been on the form for a couple weeks. the former marine left behind a wife and three young children. police need help identifying this man.

of the shooting suspect. they say a victim was shot near 47th avenue and gaylord, and the systematic was seen leaving in a four-door sedan, possibly a toyota camry. the victim is expected to survive. police charged two teenage boys with murder and attempted robbery after they say the boys killed 33-year-old nick lewis, who was a single father of an 8- year-old boy and a popular chef here in town. he was this month and police plan to release more information about the crime and the young suspects tomorrow. . late night for the broncos at mile high with a victory over the texans. we have a recap of the big win. >> anderson to the end zone, touchdown denver! >> denver's offensive line got

>> reporter: after a 27-9 win for the broncos, they improve to 5-2. one of the big stories tonight, the denver defense shutting down brock osweiler, holding him to under 100 yards passing until late in the fourth quarter. the running game came to life tonight. >> didn't get off to a hot start but anderson and booker both finishing with season highs. the broncos had a they have improved to 5-2. >> you know, just running hard and then i come in with the change of pace, running hard again. just breaking the defense down. you know, they think since he's running hard, i'm going to come in and run soft but it's the same way. >> i've always tried to show my ability and run through things. just feels good to be fresh.

it's no secret. donald trump isn't for us. and unfortunately, congressman coffman isn't, either. just listen. and as families struggle to make ends meet, coffman voted against equal pay for equal work 11 times. it gets worse. coffman said he would support donald trump for president. and that's all we really need to know.

when i became governor, i knew we had to protect our colorado way of life. it's why i need a good team in the state senate. like rachel zenzinger, a former teacher who's fought for equal pay for equal work. daniel kagan championed property tax rebates to help seniors afford their utility bills. jenise may worked to cut taxes for 30,000 small businesses. and tom sullivan is a veteran who believes in an open and transparent government.

. feels awesome out there again, doesn't it? >> we'll have more on that with ashton. >> we keep checking the calendar. it is really the final week in october. and this is why we have been so warm and why we're going to continue to be so warm. it's the placement of the jet stream, which divides the cold air and warm air. usual by by this it's a little further south. all that cool fall weather remains up to the north of us. we have a little system riding along the jet stream this morning. i mean a little system. that's why this is not a major storm for the colorado high country. it is bringing beneficial rain to the western slope here this morning. the san juans seeing rain, even a few lightning strikes near telluride. grand junction, we have

70. this is trying to move into the mountains. so far it's been unsuccessful. as the day goes on, we'll see a few rain and snow showers for the high country, including summit and eagle counties. with the warm temperatures, the snow level is up about 10,000 feet and there won't be much accumulation. going over the passes, could bei precipitation will have ended with denver maybe seeing a rain drop but that's it. temperatures are in the 50s along the front range. later today we're back in the low to middle 70s. not quite as warm as yesterday but still far above normal, 74 in denver. tomorrow 73, then we're in the 70s through the end of the week and through the upcoming weekend. take a look at the roads, a great victory drive this morning. should be nice and wide open

construction along c-470 north of 285. that's what we are seeing here. southbound, we have speeds in the 60s. nine minutes denver to thornton along i-270. here we are southbound coming into town. we have a lot of cars out there but they are all cooperating nicely. that's leading to great speeds, down around the stadium even, happened there. should be a great drive. southbound 225, eastbound c-470 all nice and wide open as well. developing now, questions around why a father jumped from a bridge with his two children last night in new jersey. the man died but the young boys thankfully survived. a woman told police she and her husband were arguing and the man said he was going to hurt the children. police tracked him down at the bridge and police say the boys will be okay.

. welcome back. nearly 150 million receive health benefits through employers and it is open enrollment. >> and that means paperwork and big decisions. jill, what do we know about the heth that are going to happen next year? >> the premiums of the plans vary so significantly. that means of course, a little home work for you. you have to review the current plan and ask yourself some questions. what did i spend over the last year on my health and medical costs? what do i think i'm going to spend next year? maybe somebody developed a condition that requires more

year. once you figure that out, determine what the plans cover, how much they cost. don't forget to include the copays and deductibles. that's the biggest increases out of your pocketbook. and you should figure out whether or not your doctors are in each of the different plans' networks. >> many employers offer high deductible plans. so who should use them? >> they are what they sound deductibles. for 2017, they are at least $1,300 for individual, $2,600 for a family. that's a big chunk of money. in exchange for paying the higher amount of costs before the coverage kicks in, you have lower monthly premiums. what happens is the high deductible plans are usually paired with a health savings account.

spending account, allowing you to set aside pretax dollars for medical expenses. for 2017 you can put in $3,400 pretax. that's a lot of money. you don't have to use it next year, it rolls over year to year. just like the retirement account, hsa accounts new york city tax there. there's a provision allowing you to put an extra $1,000 a year if if you're healthy, these plans make sense. if you don't have young children they can be very helpful. even for older people, trying to accumulate a big chunk of money that's tax free so they can have that available as they get into their 60s and cover unreimbursed medical expenses. you should really check these out.

retreat built. >> plus a crash in denver kills a man. we were there as police investigated. what we know about what happened, ahead. when brock osweiler got to houston, he said he thought the texans gave him the best chance to be successful. the broncos defense know him well, holding brock to under 100 yards until late in the fourth quarter and didn't allow the texans touchdown, giving up just three field goals. >> i looked up in the fourth quarter, had like 70 yards passing. i just, you know, smiled on the inside. that's what we wanted to do. he came out here and struggled. he should have stayed. >> we knew the struggles.
