today a man is dead after a fall at mile high stadium and that tops our news at noon. i'm alan gionet. cbs4's rick sallinger is at the stadium this afternoon. still not a lot of details on what actually happened here. >> it was a tragic ending to an otherwise upbeat night.

stadium management company. this incident happened shortly after the game ended about 9:44 p.m. a fan was taken to the hospital after falling over a stairwell railing. the denver fire department indicated it was about a 30 to 50-foot drop. ambulances were seen on the north side of mile high. the person was rushed to denver health medical center where he, an adult male, was later pronounced dead.de investigation of this incident. so far the name of the victim has not been released. live at mile high stadium, rick sallinger, cbs4 news. >> rick, thank you very much. right now rolled semi, loose cattle are causing problems on i-70. some cows died when that truck rolled right near georgetown. now several are still nearby the interstate, but will still need to be moved. the crash closed the eastbound

the driver not hurt. happening right now, the catholic archdiocese is pressing its case to build a retreat in jefferson county but neighbors are worried about the fire danger. even the local fire department says the area is where the risk is high. jamie leary has spent the morning there. >> theer decision today but the fire chief was dispatched to a fire. it was very difficult for them to get answers to many of the questions they had. still the hearing went on without him. it's actually going on right now still as we speak. it's a packed house in the room with many people commenting on both sides. many said the idea of the proposed retreat was sold to them as something much smaller than what it's actually turned in to. still those same people expressed they were willing to

adjustments, for instance, making fire pits gas instead of wood for safety, and anymore significant fire breaks. in addition the retreat would be tax exempt but the fire district has asked for reimbursement for resources which the archdiocese has agreed to. however, the amount of money still being negotiated. this is one of the many issues that was hard to resolve this morning with nobody present to represent the fire district. the commission also said they didn't get the clarity they were hoping for on the proposed retreat from the archdiocese. >> it's better when the works out their problems as opposed to bringing it to the government to work out their problems. i was hoping there would be better cohesion to that. >> again, hearing still going on and it does seem awfully difficult that they'll actually make a decision today with so little information. we'll continue to follow the story. live in jefferson county, jamie leary, cbs4 news. >> the missing fire chief, by

burning west. some people are still evacuated. some roads are still closed because of the fire. florida is front and center right now in campaign 2016, election day two weeks from today. both hillary clinton and donald trump are in florida, one of the biggest battleground states. cbs' craig boswell shares the fight for those key votes as ballots are already being cast. >> reporter: donaldru employees outside of his dural golf course in florida tuesday morning. >> 80% of them are hispanic. >> reporter: this is trump's third straight day in the state, and early voting is already underway. >> the polls are packed. and nobody knows how they're voting but they all seem to have trump stickers and trump hats and trump pins and trump shirts. >> reporter: roughly 57% of florida's vote is expected to come from early voting and 1.2

been cast. trump needs florida's 29 electoral votes if he wants to win the white house. to get there, he has to win back republican holdouts. >> he's still got this 20% of republicans, i call them reluctant republicans, largely women, largely suburban women. >> reporter: hillary clinton is calling for civility in making her pitch to those reluctant republicans. >> we've got to get back to listening respectfully. we can disagree without being disagreeable. >> reporter:as senator elizabeth warren attacked trump monday. >> he thinks because he has a mouth full of tick tacks that he can force himself on any woman within groping distance. i've got news for you, donald trump. women have had it with guys like you. >> reporter: clinton will also be campaigning in florida this afternoon. the latest cbs news poll shows her with a 3-point lead over trump in the state. craig boswell, cbs news, the white house.

2016. former cu and nba star chauncey billups has endorsed hillary clinton for president, and john elway is encouraging voters to approve amendment 71. that would make it harder to change the state constitution. cbs4's political analyst says their endorsements could make a difference for sports fans. >> voters who don't pay much attention to politics. so forhe attention, this probably accomplishes that. >> billups said he made the decision to endorse clinton because of her record and after hearing what trump called locker room talk. billups says he's never been part of a locker room like that. here in colorado 286,000 people have already cast their votes. that's the number of secretary of state's office sent us this morning. 41% are from democrats, 33% republican, 25% unaffiliated. that's notable because typically

return those ballots early. you can find out much more about colorado's ballots in the campaign 2016 section of cbsdenver.com. new developments right now out of france where crews are tearing down a migrant camp known as the jungle. thousands have called it home over the past couple of years. now the french government is clearing out the migrants and resettling them around the country. many families are unsure of their futures. the jungle had grown in to a tight knit community of calais. a massive manhunt for a man who has been posting taunting messages on facebook live. michael vance, jr. is accused of shooting two officers and killing two of his own relatives. he's believed to be armed with an ak-47. >> this is more intense than what i thought it was going to be. >> reporter: michael vance took to facebook from inside a stolen police pickup. authorities say he took the car

rifle on officers attempting to question him. >> gentleman came out with an ak47 and opened fire on everybody. >> reporter: police say vance who is wanted on previous charges of child sexual abuse was also shot in the gun battle. >> let me tell you, it hurts. >> reporter: he reportedly then carjacked this man and his pregnant wife. >> he got about right here. our car is parked right here. and he said he's got an assault rifle. >> reporter: at some point vance posted a second video from showing off his rifle. >> letting you all know, look, this is real, see. that's a gun. >> reporter: authorities say vance made his way to the home of his aunt and uncle less than 10 miles from the initial shoot-out with police. according to vance's arrest warrant, both were found dead. authorities say vance is considered armed and dangerous and has a medical condition and may try to spread disease. >> if you want to know what's up next, stay tuned to your local

posted on facebook live, some of his family members are in protective custody. developing right now, two teenagers are now charged with the murder of a popular denver chef. nick lewis worked at the blackbird public house. he was shot to death on south tacoma street in englewood on the 1st of october. police arrested two 16-year-olds in charges of first degree murder and attempted aggravated robbery. we expecto from police tomorrow about their case. federal judge has now approved a $15 billion settlement with volkswagon after the company admitted some of its cars were made to cheat on emissions tests. nearly half a million vw and audi owners can sell those vehicles back to the company. they're also eligible for a payment of up to $10,000. this is the largest settlement for an auto scandal in american history. developing right now, more evidence of just how dangerously

little bit. there's a little bit of rain around the front range. the big story is how dry it is. take a look at doppler 4000. mostly cloudy skies throughout the state and even a couple of showers in the western portion of the state. it's been raining on the western slope throughout much of the morning. we still have a little bit of precipitation around telluride, san juan county there seeing both rain and snow. a little farther north we still see rain around rifle and that rain has been trying to make its way through pitkin county and that successful and hasn't made its way much father east than aspen. it's trying to make its way to vail. really could use some snow. that picture was taken a couple hours ago. there's nothing on the ground and many of those ski areas are set to open in about a month from now. meanwhile here along the front range, can't rule out a rain drop or two this afternoon, certainly no measurable

course from the moderate drought that we now have in the entire denver metro area. here's the futurecast. we'll start this at 1:00 and let the clock roll till 6 p.m. you can see a few rain and snow showers in the mountains. temperatures are so warm even in the high country that the snow level is up around 10,500 feet. so it's only those higher peaks and passes that will see snow and accumulation would be minor. maybe an inch or two on the ground, possibly along the approaches to the johnson eisenhower tunnels. tonight skies gradually clear. tomorrow the sun comes back. temperatures are in the 60s all around town. we've got 40s and 50s in the mountains. 70s, even 80s on the eastern plains. lamar at 80 degrees right now. should reach about 85 there. ray, 80. mountain areas, 50s. at least for the mountain towns. that's why we're not going to see any snow in the mountain towns. normally this time of year it's either over colorado or south of us. now it's to the north of us. big ridge of high pressure

normal. we've got this upper level system coming through causing the clouds and a little bit of mountain precipitation here today. tomorrow sun comes back. high temperatures, 73. on thursday close to 80 for the end of the week, we keep temperatures in the 70s. we keep it sunny, dry through the upcoming weekend. kick-off temperature on sunday, how about 75 degrees. when you're looking at the schedule at the beginning of the season, looking at next week, i don't think you were thinking mid 70s for that. >>t halloween. >> it probably will not. right now looks mild and dry for halloween. we have new video to show you of a beer truck that can deliver its own beer. you see anybody at the wheel? there's nobody there. anheuser busch teamed up with a company called otto to run a semi loaded with beer along i-25 from fort collins to colorado springs. a professional driver was onboard this autonomous vehicle.

this is fascinating. to the pawnee national grasslands. explain. >> we've got a program called grasslands live that's being developed in partnership and we're going to be doing next may 2017 is creating a virtual field trip for folks of all ages to collect with our grasslands. this will be a webcast on the pawnee national grass land, talking about the wile life resources, the habitat, and should be a great opportunity for folks to v national grassland without actually being there. >> there's so much, we only realize. why were the grasslands selected as the site here? of course there are grasslands all over the country. the pawnee, pretty important. >> it's pretty important. it's one of our 20 national grasslands that we administer. the pawnee is important in that it's an urban grassland and connects youth and teachers and people of all ages with these important resources and grasses

been converted and our national forest and grasslands do provide a great resource for wildlife and other resources. >> we think about back in the day when buffalo roamed everywhere. and air in the grasslands important to the migration patterns, everything. of course we have to keep them clean in order to keep that successful. >> a lot of the birds that breed migrate to mexico and we're kicking off grasslands live this thursday with northern mexico with a classroom there. so you can learn about where birds go and how the shared birds we have in colorado actually go down south for the wintertime. >> that's fascinating. so there's a lot to learn. this whole concept of live, where are we going to find it? >> grasslandslive.org. >> and that tells us a whole lot about the birds there, the animals there, preserving it all. what's the most important thing you think in maintaining the health of the grasslands?
