good morning, everybody. i'm alan gionet. we start with breaking news. in littleton. >> i'm britt moreno. thanks for joining us. the driver of a car known for its speed crashes into a pole and it looks like a crushed soda can. part of santa fe is closed down. let's go out to jamie leary who is live. >> what's going on there? >> reporter: good have part of the road closed. it's an extremely serious crash involving one car, a corvette. i want to give you an upclose look at the scene. the call came in around 2:00 this morning. actually 20 minutes after 2:00 this morning. just one car involved right now. there were two people inside that car. it's hard to believe by looking at it anyone could have survived. but believe it or not, both were transported to the

injuries. the other person unknown injuries. but definitely serious for that person. both of the occupants in this vehicle lived. there were a couple of cars that stopped by earlier this morning. we weren't sure initially if they were involved in the accident. we were told those were bystanders who stopped to see what they can do. a lot of response because the car did catch fire. i did ask about alcohol or drugs, if that was involved. it's unknown at the time, at this time if alcohol or drugs were involved, but speed definitely a factor into this crash. i did ask as well if they knew anything more about the injuries or why this happened. so far they're investigating and officials are working on clearing the scene. but this morning it could very well impact your traffic. we want to tell you how to get around that. for more information on that let's talk to joel. let me give you a couple of options, really good options to get around this accident. here it is, you see the heart

i would take 285 to broadway to the east of santa fe or federal to the west of santa fe, and then head south and you can get to bowles or littleton boulevard and make your way into downtown littleton, or continue southbound along santa fe if you're trying to head out to c-470. southbound along santa fe is closed. you see that long stretch of purple back from union. ashton, you're not able to get really past 285, so i'd use that as an escape route. will be a tough situation th sure. in the weather department we have nothing but good news, especially if you like warm weather. yesterday we did set a record as expected. we hit 83 degrees yesterday and i think we're going to do it again today. 83 for denver, 82 in boulder, 82 in greeley. all those numbers would be a record for the date. it is going to be a warm weekend, but not quite this weekend. thanks a lot. more breaking news, this time in denver.

nasty rollover crash as people tried to rush the victim to the hospital. this story spans two different scenes. the shooting happened early this morning in lodo. the crash came soon after at 11th and kalamath. that is where our shaun boyd is now cover -- shawn chitness is covering the story. let's get the details. >> reporter: we're learning from denver police in a tweet that they can tell us six people total involved. both cars about to be towed away from this scene. we expect they are going to be able to open up this area shortly. this started with that shooting in the lodo area, likely outside of a bar. someone from that shooting who was injured got into the suv that rolled over. it's a chevy. they were heading south on kalamath when they ran a red light, crashed into the other

people inside, and we know they had to remove the door and extricate one of them. the one person who was in the other car, the nissan, also taken to the hospital. again, six people in all injured. two we now know with serious injuries. denver police working with the fire department to clear this scene. again, they are making some progress about to remove both of those vehicles and hopefully open up this intersection soon. we'll remain on scene. we're also going to check back in with denver police to see they're looking for suspects in that case. live in denver, shawn chitness, cbs4 morning news. thank you, shawn. weather and traffic every 10 minutes. here's ashton. >> good morning, happy friday. temperatures are in the 50s. the 50s. it's the end of october and we're in the mid-50s around town. 7:24will be our official sunrise. will be another very warm day. we anticipate a record again this afternoon. the difference between yesterday and today is going to be the cloud cover. yesterday we saw sunshine all

the skies will appear more white instead of blue. it's even warmer on the northwest side of town, arvada 71 degrees here at 5:00 in the morning at the end of october. it really is unprecedented heat. that's why we're dealing with the records. you can see the clouds moving over the state. all this moisture streaming in from the pacific ocean. we'll talk about that in just a moment. first, for today, how about today, 61 at 9:00 a.m. 76 at noon. and there it is, 83 for our high to like it was yesterday, is 80. this one set back in 1994. another record will fall later today. britt, alan. maybe that's why they call it fall, right? i want to show you these pictures again, southbound along santa fe. completely shut down to the north of bellevue at union because of this accident here, adjacent to the u-haul store. those pictures coming in from our eddie castro. jamie has been giving us live

it. to the east, southbound along broadway access to bowles. or from the west, use federal to access bowles. you can't access southbound along santa fe. across the denver metro area, on highway outside of that, one trouble spot along c-470, affecting the drive closer to ken caryl. downtown 11th and kalamath we have that scene where our shawn chitness was. th was found at a camp site in winter park earlier this week. they say the man likely died from alcohol intoxication and exposure. the coroner's office says they didn't find trauma on the man's body. an update to a story you first saw yesterday on cbs4 morning news. all lanes at wadsworth and bayoud are back open after a water main break.

everything is back open for this morning's commute. and this is the news in campaign 2016. donald trump will visit the centennial state again. he'll be at the jefferson county fairgrounds event center in golden tomorrow. doors open at 9:00, but the event starts at noon. trump seized on newly released hacked e-mails from hillary clinton's campaign. he accused her and her husband bill of using their charity to cash in supporters to help her build on the obama legacy. while clinton has the lead in most national polls, the latest from fox news shows trump narrowing the gap. here are the latest early voting numbers from the colorado secretary of state's office. more than 572,000 ballots have been turned in so far. nearly 225,000 from democrats. 196,000 from republicans.

feet deep. >> our karen morfitt reports that soft mud was a big problem. it pulled him in just like quick sand. >> 911 operator: 911, what is the address of the emergency? >> caller: i'm stuck in quick sand and every time i take a step i go further down. >> reporter: that was the frantic call early tuesday morning. >> he was probably 15 feet offshore in water up to hi >> reporter: the teen was hunting around simpson ponds in loveland when he went in the water, attempting to retrieve a duck he shot. the teenager uses his cell phone to call for help. >> caller: i'm slowly -- i'm not moving, but i'm slowly going down deeper. i'm waist down in mud now. >> reporter: chief davis says it was actually soft mud at the

similar to quick sand. >> soft and sucks him in. it can feel like you continue to go in, and the more they work the more they go in. >> reporter: the teenager was able to keep from sinking further and stayed on the phone with dispatch until help arrived. >> 911 operator: i'm not going to let you go until they're in contact with you, okay. >> caller: i see someone. i'm here! okay, he sees me. >> karen morfitt reporting. loveland fire says that area was hit ha it's possible new silt and sand deposits played a role. new developments in a massive protest in north dakota. more than 100 people were arrested after police say they were on private land. those people are protesting a controversial pipeline. more from the scene ahead. a woman says this could be a big win for her. she says baby powder gave her

good morning, happy friday. 5:14. weather and traffic every 10 minutes on the 4s. good morning. good morning. our big story is we set a record yesterday with 83 and we anticipate the same thing happening later today. the difference between yesterday and today as i've been talking about will be the cloud cover. yesterday we saw almost nothing but sunshine. today clouds will cover much of the state through most of the day. we have 20s, 30s and 40s in the high country. it's 50 in grand junction. here in the denver area we're right around 60 degrees, though some neighborhoods are closer to 70. that's how mild it is this morning.

morning a jacket won't be necessary anymore. we'll see 80s for just about every lower elevation location in the eastern half of the state today. burlington 86. 87, 87 at the end of october for la junta and lamar. most mountain towns like frisco will top out in the lower to middle 60s. breckenridge, avon, winter park you can expect the same. doppler 4000, this is what i'm talking about, look at all the cloud cover on top of us. this moisture streaming in from the west. a lot of across northern nevada. that's where we will expect it to be with this pattern. the jet stream moving over those locations. it moves into wyoming instead of colorado, because of this ridge of high pressure responsible for our record heat. areas west and north that see snow. jackson, wyoming, 4 to 8 inches. 6to 12 inches in the sierra nevada mountains. 83 in denver today. 84 tomorrow. 76 on sunday. then monday about continue

halloween. 71. kickoff temperature for the broncos and chargers 75. we'll be at 72 by the end of the fourth quarter. warmer here than in san diego. joel. pretty amazing. we've got a traffic alert. want to take you live to pictures we got from eddie castro. along santa fe in the southbound direction just north of bellevue. it's completely shut down. you see the u-haul store off to the side there. that's where this is at. you can see, look at this, this is a corvette, red corvette, brand-new. southbound direction of santa fe. the investigation continues, so this remains closed. our jamie leary is out there and will give us an update coming up in a little bit. i want to show you a way around it. to the west, take federal to bowles to get across that. if you are to the east, take broadway to bowles and get around that as well. across the denver metro area, on the highway we're pretty good. new accident on colfax right

then 11th and kalamath where we have police activity. we're hoping to get that cleared out of the way soon. developing story, in a protest over the dakota access pipeline. police arrested more than 140 protestors yesterday who made their way onto private land. the demonstrations got tense after officers fired bean bags and pepper spray. >> the whole world is watching -- >> reporter: it was tough and it was tense, as police moved camps and protestors were detained. it was an unequal fight. police had billy clubs, mace and weapons. >> this is the way it's been going, the police have just arrested one of the protestors. over here the protestors continue to taunt them. ever time the protestors make a move, the police move right along with them.

the peace. >> you can win against all this? >> i'm not going to say we can win. it will be a tough battle spiritually. >> reporter: the sheriff ran the operation. >> we don't want a confrontation. the last thing the state of north dakota wants is a couldn'tation. >> reporter: it blocks construction of a pipeline. builders want to tunnel under the river. native americans say if there was ever a leak it would pollute a tribal life line that would affect millions of americans downstream. the protestors have come from reservations across the u.s. and neither said shows -- side shows any side of giving in.

>> at least two cars also burned there. a jury in st. louis awarded a california woman more than $70 million after she claims baby powder gave her cancer. she accused johnson & johnson of negligent conduct in making and marking its baby powder. she says she used it starting when she was 15 all the way to age 61. then she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. the lawsuit claims a mineral found in baby powder is carcinogenic and the company has known about it. johnson & johnson says they'll appeal the verdict. a teenaged boy is defending himself after police say he bullied another student into stealing thousands of dollars. police arrested robert guthrie at a school in katy, texas monday. investigators believe guthrie

steal money, about $6,800 from his parents and they would buy things like video games. >> i'm very scared of what might happen to me, because i don't want to go back to jail, and if i end up with a fine, felony charge will preen me from getting a job. >> he claims it was the younger boy's idea. the rockies may have some consolation r let's be real. it wasn't good. carlos gonzalez, one of the named gold glove finalists. all three have already won at least once before. the winners will be announced november 8th. chicago cubs getting ready to play their first world series game at wrigley field in 71 years.

really still investigating, searching around the car. this portion of santa fe is closed. the call came in around 2:20. just a single vehicle crash. it's only this corvette that was involved. we saw quite a few other civilian cars parked alongside the corvette. we were told those were pedestrians who stopped to help the two people inside the car. it's hard to be this. we were told both were transported to the hospital. one with nonlife-threatening injuries. the other person did sustain serious injuries. officials don't know the extent of those injuries at this point in time. we're told that speed indeed was a factor in this crash. it was traveling at a high rate of speed. i did ask if alcohol or drugs were a factor. no word on that at this point in time. they're doing blood work on that second person who was
