really still investigating, searching around the car. this portion of santa fe is closed. the call came in around 2:20. just a single vehicle crash. it's only this corvette that was involved. we saw quite a few other civilian cars parked alongside the corvette. we were told those were pedestrians who stopped to help the two people inside the car. it's hard to be this. we were told both were transported to the hospital. one with nonlife-threatening injuries. the other person did sustain serious injuries. officials don't know the extent of those injuries at this point in time. we're told that speed indeed was a factor in this crash. it was traveling at a high rate of speed. i did ask if alcohol or drugs were a factor. no word on that at this point in time. they're doing blood work on that second person who was

commute. we know how busy santa fe can get. for more on how to get around this, let's take a look at the traffic situation. good morning, joel. good morning. 285 here, santa fe here. this is where cinderella city used to be. light rail stuff there. that's just to the south of that that you have this closure at union just to the north of bellevue. long line of purple there. i would recommend going to the the east take broadway and access on to santa fe from bowles. i can tell you this as you step out the door, you'll notice temperatures aren't that chilly at all, even compared to yesterday, we are mild with most of us starting the day either in the 50s or 60s. yesterday we set a record and we expect to set another record this afternoon.

degrees. a wild scene in denver. police say a shooting in lodo led people rushing to the hospital but they never made it on their home. the crash happened at 11th and kalamath. our shawn chitness is live where that crash happened. good morning, what do you know? >> reporter: britt, quite a fast changing scene all morning long. behind me we can see the intersection back open. really every half hour something different was happening here all night. at the intersection is back open. this all started somewhere else. likely outside of a bar in lodo where that shooting happened. we know at least one person was injured in that shooting trying to get to the hospital. that person along with some other people got into this car that rolled over, a chevy suv. they were heading south on kalamath as they ran a red light and crashed into another car, a nissan path finder. there was another person in that car.

people inside. they had to extricate one person, remove the door from the side of the car, and they were all taken to the hospital. the one person in the other car also taken to the hospital. six in all. denver police telling us just about an hour ago that two people do have serious injuries at the hospital. now the scene is cleared, and at least they can move forward in their investigation. we're still waiting to learn more from denver police about where this all started, that shooting, exactly where that scene was and if there suspects they're still pursuing. we'll get those details to you. thank you, shawn. search crews are raking through a landfill looking for the body of a 13-month-old baby boy. the child had been missing in cheyenne, wyoming for three days before someone said something. the mother's boyfriend told investigators he gave the child to a man so they could go fishing. investigators believe the child

bin at a community college. that bin was taken to the landfill north of greeley. investigators say the process to fine the boy could take months. a suspect is in custody, but has not been formally charged. let's get to weather and traffic every 10 minutes on the 4s now. ashton is talking about the heat. >> another record today, alan. this is truly unprecedented heat. let me put the numbers into perspective. our normal high temperature at the end of october, 61. today's record, just like it s that was set back in 1994. our forecast for today, 83. we reached 83 yesterday, i think we're going to do the same thing today. this morning temperatures, you have to call this warm, frankly for this time of year. 68 in littleton. 67 outside highland ranch. 60 commerce city. clouds on top of us. that will be the difference between yesterday and today. the skies will appear more white instead of blue. these are high clouds, not the

precipitation. coming up we're going to talk more about the weekend forecast. now let's check in with joel. southbound santa fe remains closed to the north of bellevue. these pictures coming in from eddie castro. our jamie leary there on the scene, giving us updates throughout the morning. next update coming up in a little bit from her. this is affecting traffic. the volume in the northbound direction, the far side of the scene, but near the car it is shut down. how do you get around that? you can take broadway or federal and access onto santa unfortunately, alan, that is not our only accident. we have a pair of accidents along 6th in the eastbound direction. one at garrison, the other at sheridan, and one traveling along sheridan at 14th. thanks, joel. rash of break-ins in westminster has one woman trying to unite her neighbors to stop a plague of crime there. as our jeff todd reports, she hopes the neighbors are proactive. >> been happening up and down the block. one day we'll walk up and down just talking to everybody that had been hit.

broken into. >> there wasn't anything small enough to take. just stuff to put in their backpack. >> reporter: when lynnell green- keyes starting realizing the crime going on around her, she went to social media to get her neighbors together. >> we had a home invasion across the street a couple of weeks. and a couple of days ago we had a home invasion two doors down. the last two weeks we've had nine or 10 houses hit from behind. >> reporte long. westminster police told us they only have two incidents since the beginning of the september for the street. that was news to lynnell. >> i know the 10 behind the house break-ins were reported, because the police are the ones who told us how many houses had been hit on just this block. >> reporter: that's what is motivating her to keep the neighborhood vigilant. >> i have protection. one, we have new locks on all

>> jeff todd reporting. it's not unique to that neighborhood. this is the type of crime we've been hearing about all over the metro area. aurora police is facing criticism this morning, after they say they shot a dog in self-defense last weekend. the dog's owner disagrees and now she plans to sue. as stan bush learned, police say a taser or pepper spray just wouldn't have worked. >> reporter: panic on 911, when ig woman surrounded by two aggressive dogs. >> we got two pit bulls on the loose. one has attacked somebody. please, hurry, hurry, hurry. >> reporter: police say when an officer approached the larger of the two dogs growled, taking an aggressive stance. the officer said he was frightened and shot the dog once. >> for a seasoned officer to say he's never seen a dog act aggressively, it should come with credence he knows what

>> reporter: rios had to put her dog down from his wound. this video of their final moments together had gone viral. >> he didn't deserve to be shot. >> reporter: she showed us the other dog in the incident. they're often mistaken as pit bulls, even something officers on the scene did. but the dogs were permitted in town according to documents. rio says witnesses and responding officers exaggerateed about the incident. >> she was not attacked. him up a little, but let him go. a vicious dog would have killed that dog. >> reporter: police say the breed didn't matter. >> if we're able to comprehend or recognize aggressive behavior, the officers will do what they feel is necessary to protect the public and themselves. >> that was stan bush reporting. aurora police say the dog had a prior citation for being an aggressive animal. police were wearing body camera, but that video has not

this friday morning. we want to go there first. joel, we take you out live to this terrible accident overnight. >> these pictures coming in from photo journalist eddie castro. can you believe that new, or new to them, red corvette, southbound along santa fe. it's next to the u-haul store north of bellevue. it's closed southbound at union. consider in your mind it's closed at 285. let me show you the map and how to there's 285, hampden. they'll take you west on union, which you can do and come south on federal. or take 285 and come down on federal or over to broadway and access 285, excuse me, onto santa fe from bowles this morning. i know that's kind of a crazy route along there, but that does remain closed. earlier closure at 11th and kalamath is cleared out of the way. we've replaced that with several other accidents. eastbound 6th avenue an accident at sheridan.

accident 14th and garrison, and then one in the northbound direction of i-25 as you get to i-70. several accidents out there. ashton, take a look at the drive times, eastbound along i- 70 if you're making your way into town, should be great. i-25 to i-225 just 9 minutes. seems like all the problems are on the south side of town now. we have warm temperatures all around town for this time of year anyway. 57 at cbs4, as we look outside. we have a lot of cloud cover on top of us. sun will be up at 7:24. the big difference between be the way the day looks. not the way the day feels. we'll be back into record territory, lower 80s this afternoon. a lot of cloud cover on top of us. mountain towns are chilly. we really can't call it cold for the mountains this time of year. leadville 38. avon at 40. meanwhile, 60 in burlington and 50 out in grand junction. later on 76 in grand junction. several records fell in the western slope yesterday. we could see more records be broken out that way.

afternoon down along highway 50 for la junta and lamar. here are the clouds i was talking about. they're high clouds, cirrus cloud cover. so we're not talking about precipitation today. that's all out to the west of us. big plume of moisture, rain from northern california to northern nevada into idaho and wyoming because that's where the jet stream is located. since the jet steers storm systems it will take that system from california and push it up into wyoming. it's going to miss colorado, so no rain or snow through the weekend. we will get slightly cooler between today and tomorrow. we'll move out of record territory for the weekend. in jackson hole, wyoming, 4 to 8 inches of snow. 6to 12 in lake tahoe. but nothing, nothing for us. 83 today. that's a record. tomorrow 74. 76 on sunday. halloween topping out at 71. trick or treat temperatures will be in the 50 and 60s, including 67 as the young kids are going out. lower 50s for the older kids.

we're going to talk a little broncos now. the broncos are gearing up for another showdown with the san diego chargers. this time here at home. >> i'm thinking about a phillip rivers costume. romi bean here now. he might be scared sunday. >> i hope so. the broncos play the same divisional opponent, thn the mile high city. this time around the chargers could see a very different broncos team than the one they beat just 17 days ago. gary kubiak is back, rookie runningback devontae booker will start. cj anderson suffered a right knee injury in the win over the texans. he is expected to miss multiple games, which means booker will get his first start of his career sunday.

and a touchdown this past monday night. sure, the broncos want anderson in the lineup, but booker is a player they're confident handing the ball to, because as kubiak said, booker brings juice to the offense. another guy players would be happy to see is demarcus ware. we don't know if he'll play sunday, but he wants to. he practiced for the first time since he suffer left forearm in week two. it's great for the defensive who already leads the league in sacs, but still needs the help it can get in pressuring phillip rivers. in the previous meetings, rivers was 10 of 14 passing against the broncos' blitz. broncos need to limit the

the league. if you want the number, guys, that matters for the broncos' defense, it's 20. in the last two seasons, the broncos are 14-1 when they allow 20 and fewer points. last time they played the chargers, they scored 21. trevor siemian hasn't thrown an interception in his last four starts. his last pick was in week 133pass attempts without an interception. >> penalties, you're right about. we all know there's holding in the nfl. you have to get better at hiding it really in a sense, right? >> you're right. there was a play last week where there was a holding penalty, to be honest, looked like it was a high school play. he was hugging the guy. these are things, they're experienced and tried to bolster the offensive line.
