earlier this afternoon. the fire broke out in douglas county just south of highlands ranch, close to highway 85. the fire came close to homes in the chatville estates and back country subdivisions, close to the sun dial house. andrea flores starts our team coverage. andrea, more than 800 people were evacuated are now being allowed back home. >> reporter: that's right, and certainly some good news. now, we're in a subdivision area. go ahead and take a look. you can see squeeze are still packed along the side of the street. on the other side of the street, hopes in that evacuation area they cannot get to earlier today, many hiking through this field to get a closer look. now, the fire started at 10 acres around noon, but quickly grew to more than 200 by late afternoon, threatening structures in the chatfield estates and back country subdivisions. the douglas county sheriff's office issued an evacuation notice for residents living within a half

center and back country neighborhood. that, of course, has since been lifted. here's what one evacuee had to say. >> i'm couldn't of freaking out, because i've got a couple windows open at the house, and got three cats, and so i'm just kind of worried about all the smoke. i've got a truck full of groceries, trying to get it back into the subdivision, and they won't let me in. >> reporter: now, stone mountain elementary school was also ordered to shelter in place as the eventually released. some more good news, there were no reported injuries, and snow structures were reported by this fire. andrea flores, cbs 4 news. close call. our lack of moisture and those very warm temps have created the perfect conditions for fires just like this. meteorologist chris bears also in douglas county now with a different vantage point on what's burned.

you can hear this vegetation. i just hard you say the dry conditions, the record heat we're dealing with. over my shoulder, you can see what is left of the smoke coming up from the chat ridge fire. you're looking toward the back country neighborhood. and we've seen the air attack come to an end. that is some good news. take a look at this video we shot just as little as 30 to 45 minutes ago. a very aggressive assault both by aircraft -- airplanes and helicopters. we are told by a couple of residents in this area there are some man-made ponds in the back country neighborhood, and they were locally getting a lot of the weather -- a lot of the water out of those ponds to fight this fire. it was kind of lucky that those ponds were so close. back out here live behind me, you can probably see some poor air visibility. the air pollution control district has issued an air quality advisory for the front range due to the smoke. we have no wind in the atmosphere, so this smoke will kind of settle and hang near the ground tonight. so if you are sensitive to air quality issues, you

but the new development certainly has the potential to sway voters who already think clinton isn't honest and trustworthy and to unite republicans, who have been anything but united this election. >> they are reopening the case into her criminal and illegal conduct. >> just when you thought the election couldn't get any stranger it does. fbi director james kome sent a letter to members of congress saying agents had discovered e-mails in an innocent into the investigation of hillary clinton's private e-mail server. cbs news has confirmed the discovery was made during an investigation into former congressman anthony weiner, who's accused of sending sexually explicit text messages to a 15-year-old girl. agents seized electronics devices belonging to the couple. >> we've got to keep our foot on the gas. >> reporter: clinton didn't address the new fbi probe while campaigning in

saying, "maybe the system isn't so rigged after all." . >> i have great respect for the fact that the fbi and the department of justice are now willing to have the courage to write the horrible mistake that they made. >> reporter: the summer, kome said clinton would not face criminal charges in connection with her use of a private e-mail server, but called her actions, including the exchange of mails with classified information, extremely careless. clinton's campaign chair, john podesta demanded kome release more information, saying, "the director owes to the american people to immediately provide the full details." . early voting is underway in 35 states, including colorado. in colorado, 22% of voters have returned their ballots with the number of democrats and republicans

rally with supporters. that rally will take place at the jefferson county fair grounds in golden. and hillary clinton is addressing the e-mails now. we want to go to her live >> seeing you and hearing what you're saying, saying, "i didn't trust her before. i don't trust her anymore now, and they're heading to the ballot box tomorrow. >> i think people a long time ago made up their minds about the e-mails. i think that's factored into what people think, and now they're choosing a president. so i would urge everybody to get and all the states that have early voting, because i think americans ever americans want a president who can lead our country, get the economy working for everyone, not just those at the top, and who can bring our country together. i offer that. i can do that, and i'm very confident that the american people know that, and we're going to continue to discuss what's at stake in this election, because i believe that it's one of the

there? >> reporter: here in laramie county, they say their top priority is locating that young infant's body. they say, by doing so, they'll be able to piece together several different stories, which right now aren't aligning. that suspect, who originally admitted to being present while that child died, he was supposed to be in court today, but that canceled when he said he was going to be changing his story. twenty-three-year-old logan rogers remains behind bars after law enforcement says he admitted to disposeing the body girlfriend's 13-month-old child. rogers was supposed to see a judge friday, but then his story turned. >> his story is changing somewhat, and that's why they canceled the court hearing today. >> reporter: laramie county spokesperson linda gisel, said that change has underlied the importance of locateing the body. >> you're able to determine cause of death, manner of death. >> reporter: gisele said the odds are against law enforcement, because --

which was transported to a landfall. >> if the body is in a life, we have about a 1% chance, but we are not going to give up on that. >> reporter: the search through that landfall has been postponed until monday. but law enforcement says they still have every reason double the child is deceased. >> our cadaver dog did hit on a vehicle they said the child was trial timed in. >> reporter: so for now, investigators have limited options until that body is located. now, the still trying to locate that body. police say they're still trying to figure out when the child was last seen. as for the location where the body was -- searching for the body, i should say, they've quarantined one area off. they're postponed the search until monday -- colorado and wyoming to do such a delicate search. live in cheyenne, cbs 4 news. >> thank you. now we want to get back to our breaking news of

mostly high clouds in the area. watch in pitkin county. that's all we're seeing. a couple sprinkles in the west. farther west, you see heavier moisture. let's go to the hour-by-hour forecast, put nit motion. you see a shower show up over the mountains right there, and than we're gone. saturday, lot of clear skies around here. then sunday, here we go. as we get to the start of the bronco game, 2:00, lot of sun around the front range, another mild day around here. we'll run it to monday around noon. more sunny and partly sunny skies acro t really no problems coming our way. a little cool front coming our way. instead of the low 80s, 22 degrees above normal. we will start to see this push on through. that's going to mix with the warmer air, just cool us into the lower 70s, cooler still as we get into next week. still have some snow up there in the northeast. we saw all the way through the northeast now. it is just leaving or changing back over to rain. so we're approach done with that. the cool front coming our way. still warm air up our way.

you see that warm bubble up there over the central and southern section of the u.s.? to the north, it is much cooler with only 50s and 60s showing up. we had 82 degrees today, 82 downtown. that's record high. the'll was 80, set back in 1933. 59 and 53 are the lows this morning. should be at 32 degrees, 9 the record low. 80 and 77 now with an east wind at 6. just 12% humidity. nice shot here from madeline udy. this is the pretty day. sunset from centennial. let's do one more sunset shot from joyce bubla. this is from the ghost of springs. as we take a look at the lows tonight, mostly 40s and 50s over the eastern plains. and out west, temperatures in the 40s and 50s are. tomorrow we're in the 7 0s and 80s. . cooler air is to the north of us. temperatures in the pleasant

cloudy, 51 and 50 the overnight lows. for tomorrow, partly sunny skies, 72 and 73. now, as with take a look at the 5-day forecast, i'll draw your attention to monday. that is halloween. 73 degrees, kind of nice. but let's take a look at in- depth halloween, both past and present. we go to loren wendy in the colorado weather center. >> everyone says, if snow is on halloween, we have to layer up in all this stuff. maybe back in the 80s and 90s. for the past several years, we warm. 58 degrees in 2014, there 2012 and 2011, we were in the 7 0s. now our coldest halloween in recent memory was back in 2002. we hit 19 degrees, and there was snow that day. and our snowiest wenter in recent history, 2000. we had 3.2 inches at stapleton. we had over 14 inches in parts of the foothill. it has actually been a while since we had a snowy halloween. it's actually going to be really nice for all the
