,, %f0 welcome to the cbs4 morning news. this is the news, tuesday, november 1st, the day after halloween. we know there's some candy hangovers out there. i'm alan gionet. >> i'm britt moreno. did you have least? >> no. i had a couple of -- no, i don't want to say. >> too many to count. let's get over to ashton. i have a sweet tooth myself. >> a couple wouldn't describe what happened at my house. it was far more than just a couple last night. we had a great time. we really did. the weather really helped. it was perfect for trick or treating. this morning we have some clouds over colorado just like yesterday. partly cloudy today.

northwest part of the state. temperatures are cooler. you'll notice a difference, even here in the metro area. yesterday at this time we were mainly in the 50s, even 60s. instead we have 40s around town now. some of us will likely drop into the upper 30s. in the high country, 20s and 30s. 50s, close to 60s in the mountains later on. front range, 10 to 15 degrees cooler than our record setting 79 yesterd closer to normal. still above normal, but still closer to normal. let's get a check on traffic with joel. good morning. the drive as you're recovering this morning should be good. couple of cones. southbound coming into town. this is at 104th. just the right lane getting by. across the denver metro area a couple of stalls, e-470 and i-

chambers. also ramp restrictions in place southbound along i-25 to get onto colorado, as denver public works is doing maintenance work. breaking news out of castle rock, two dozen families can get into their homes in the plum creek neighborhood. this is good news to those people out of their homes overnight, jamie. >> reporter: this is good news, but a families and authorities. i want to show you this house behind me. you can see the hazmat bags piled in the driveway. about 30 families forced to evacuate after explosive devices and chemicals were found in the home yesterday. they'll be allowed back in around 5:00 this morning, but investigators say the evacuation was necessary to detonate the devices found. [ sound of explosion ]

detonation there. authorities found what they described as volatile chemicals inside of that home and the bomb, it was detonated in a hole on the golf course which butts up to these homes. the chemicals and bombs were discovered after the arrest of two teenaged boys early monday morning. their arrests were unrelated to the chemicals found in one of their homes. but investigators say one of those two teens had extensive knowledge of chemicals and said they haven't seen this level of soca before. both teens remain in custody as of this morning. it's unclear what charges they are facing. we do know the charges are unrelated to the chemicals and explosive devices found in the home. but those could come later. we're kind of waiting to hear the identities of these teens, and if they're going to be charged in relation to what was found in this neighborhood yesterday. the investigation continues this morning. luckily, all those families

we're going to continue to follow this story. jamie leary, cbs4 morning news. >> let's hope they have a smooth transition. thank you. two children and one adult are dead in a crash involving a trailer pulling people for halloween festivities in eastern mississippi. several others were injured when a vehicle struck the flat bed trailer. two died at the scene and the other died waiting for a police helicopter. no word yet on identities of may have been injured. the crash took place in the town of chunky, about 80 miles west of jackson, mississippi. denver woman is accused of firing shots at police while protesting against the dakota access pipeline in north dakota. investigators say 37-year-old

deputies, the deputy didn't fire back. we are learning more about the wyoming man accused of killing his girlfriend's baby and putting the body in a dumpster. logan rogers is charged with manslaughter and child endangerment. he told investigators he brought the 13-month-old boy to a house where people were smoking meth. he says the child fell off a counter, hit his head eventually died. rogers initially said he put the body in a dumpster outside a community college in cheyenne. the contents of that dumpster were taken to a landfill. rogers has also been changing his story on where the boy's body might be. weekend gun theft at a parker gun shop could be tough to solve because the

someone reaching through security bars to make off with otherwise unsecured rifles. it took place at the pony express firearms in south parker near main street. it happened just after midnight on saturday. the shop says the thief took 2 af 47's and 1 ar 15 rifle and one shotgun. the district attorney says there could have been better safety measures to stop that crime. >> what i really wish is they would talk enforcement, the police officers, sheriffs deputies, atf and consult someone called mr. common sense in some cases, by putting the weapons in a place where they can't be gotten to by glass and made less functional. >> police are looking at nearby

any surveillance video footage. we have the election coming up this month. jill wagner joins us live from the floor of the new york stock exchange with your moneywatch. happy november, jill. >> reporter: happy november. traders are watching the latest developments in the presidential election very closely. also more earnings come out this week. yesterday the dow fell 18 points. nasdaq was flat. futures are pointing to a bit of a higher open today. a drivers discriminate against black and female passengers. people of african-american sounding names have longer wait times and are more likely to have their ride canceled, and female passengers often have to pay more because they get stuck with chatty drivers who drag out the trip. facebook users may notice a spike in check ins at the

good morning, everyone. this is the news in health. people here in colorado have the right idea when it comes to riding a bike to work. you're probably one of these people. two new studies suggest people who bike regularly to work or just for fun are less likely to develop cardiovascular trouble. doctors found biking even just a half hour each we researchers in canada say efforts to lower bad cholesterol may be more effective than raising good cholesterol. this is when it comes to fighting heart disease risk. they confirm healthy lifestyle changes, including diet and exercise are still best for treatment and prevention. a new study found moderate use of social media such as facebook is actually associated

some spots are very cold. here in the denver area at least a light jacket is necessary this morning. later on it will feel a little more like fall. still above normal for the beginning of november. but compared to where we have been it will be cool. denver 67. boulder 65. and greeley tops out at 69. meanwhile most mountain towns will be in the 50s today. you can also see cloud cover on top of us. we'll call it partly cloudy today. we have the front roll through yesterday. it's why today will be cooler and behind the front we have an upper level wer creating a couple of mountain, rain and snow showers, nothing that will be a big deal. here's 3:00 this afternoon. a few showers possible for the northern, central, and even southern mountains. here's midnight tonight. we may have an up tick in the precipitation in the mountains tonight. dry for denver and the front range. over vail pass, snow possible tonight. not much in terms of accumulation. 9:00tomorrow morning we'll be watching this, band of snow

i'm not convinced that that will happen. of course we'll keep you posted. 67 for the high today. tomorrow down to 60, that's the cool day of the week. after that back up near 70 to wrap up the week. a very small chance of rain on saturday. joel, we always hate to see rain chances on the weekend. considering how dry we are, we'll take it. but it's a small chance. thank you. take a look at the drive this morning, there's a high chance of cones heading across the denver metro area. i'll show you a couple of ot we see those. thornton parkway, and you're down to that right lane, this is actually the acceleration, so we'll be continuing to watch that. across the denver metro area looks like we have a new accident eb direction of i-70 as you get to brighton boulevard. ramp restrictions southbound along i-25 at colorado and at evans. this is from denver public works as they work on that pedestrian bike bridge. that will be in place through this week overnight. the closures begin at about

couple of stalls, one on e-470 at i-70. the other northbound at parker road. and construction c-470 and 285. thanks, joel. cars under recall sometimes with important safety issues are for sale unclose used car lot -- on colorado used car lots. >> reporter: with a hidden camera, cbs4 producer visited several used car lots acting as a customer. at he salesman said this 2015 altima passed its safety test. we found out using a federal government web site it had a recall not yet fixed. >> reporter: in this case, the unfixed recall was a safety risk, that the passenger airbag might not deploy. let's go to another lot.

>> do you know about any recalls or nick? >> we don't actually put any cars on the lot that have recalls. my owners are adamant about fixing any vehicle before it goes on the lot. >> reporter: but a check of the vin revealed this one had three open recalls, including the airbags. the manager later told us at the disclose all recalls and the customer signs a car fax. revenue says state law is clear. >> regulations set up at the time of sale they're required to notify the consumer in writing. >> reporter: let's check out another dealership. we found a 2009 cadillac escalade on the lot. we asked about the common takata airbags under recall. >> we don't really carry takatas. we actually, we have like 200 cars in an off lot that are all

government web site shows this escalade has an unfixed takata airbag. >> none of that stuff should be on your lot at this point? >> no. and if it is there is a disclosure. >> reporter: none of the dealers we visited to agreed to discuss sales of cars under recall on camera. but tim jackson of the colorado automobile dealers association did. >> should recalled cars be on the lot for sale? >> recalled cars are streets, in driveways, in dealership lots. >> reporter: for some, it's become a selling point. one dealership is now running commercials promising it will only sell cars that are recall- free. rick salinger, cbs4 news. >> for now it is legal to sell those cars, as long as the defect is disclosed before sale. congress is going to be taking up a bill requiring repairs. if you want to see if your car

broncos' wade phillips was back at work yesterday. joking via twitter he could win the big hit of the week award. glad he's back. broncos' offense has been no joking matter. running game turned in its second worse performance gps the chargers and turned the ball over twice inside the red zone. it's possible the injury to anderson will have a bigger but cj is not coming back soon and the offense has to get better really quickly. >> got to overcome some issues now with cj being out and keep bringing trevor along. a long way to go. obviously we're not close to where we need to be, we know that. didn't play well yesterday. but the team still found a way to win, so that's a good sign for the team. nuggets north of the border last night.
