we have two breaking stories to tell you about this morning. two dozen families can now return home after spending the night evacuated. investigators found explosive materials in the plum creek neighborhood in castle rock. and a possible stabbing attack in brighton. good morning, everybody. i'm alan gionet. >> i'm britt moreno. we are going to start right investigation. >> shawn chitness is on east bridge street, north of bar lake in brighton. what's going on, shawn? >> reporter: we just got a few more details from brighton police. this is happening inside the east gate mobile home park. police now telling us a little bit more about how all of this started. of course, now it is a homicide investigation. they did get the call around 1:30 in the morning, a man saying there was someone on his

we know those were in fact stab wounds. so that man, the victim, was taken to a hospital and later died in surgery from those injuries. we also know there was a halloween party happening somewhere in the area, not necessarily at this same home where that man was found. at that party there could have been a fight that led up to what ultimately injured that man and then where he died from those injuries at the hospital. we know he is in his 30s. he particular house. at this time brighton police don't have any information on a possible suspect. they are talking to the family and working on getting a search warrant. we'll remain on scene, continue to get more details and bring them to you. live in brighton, shawn chitness, cbs4 morning news. thank you, shawn. we have more breaking news to bring you. more than two dozen castle rock families can go home, this after the discovery of explosive materials inside a house in the plum creek

arrested two teenagers. our jamie leary is working this story. she's live in that neighborhood. jamie, we can only imagine it has been a long night for these people. >> reporter: long night. there are about 30 people here allowed to come back. they were told at 5:00 this morning they could come back. they've been slowly filtering in, only a handful of them. we tried to talk to a few. they definitely don't want to talk to the media this morning. a long day and night for them. one man said he came dog out and had to head to work. this is the house where the hazardous materials were recovered from. you can see the bags and buckets piled in the driveway. officers are keeping an eye on the place. it was about 12 hours after these chemicals and devices were found inside of the home that a bomb squad took them out to the golf course to detonate

inside the home and the bombs, they were detonated in a hole on the golf course. the course butts up to the homes, so you can understand why they had to be evacuated. the devices were discovered after the arrests of two teenage boys yesterday morning. their arrests unrelated to the chemicals found in one of their homes. investigatorssay one of the two teens had extensive knowledge of chemicals. >> in my time here i have not sophistication from a juvenile. >> reporter: both of those teens remain in custody this morning. it's unclear what charges they will be facing, but now we are told they're unrelated to the chemicals found in the home. live in castle rock, jamie leary, cbs4 morning news. thank you. more breaking news, this time of a deadly bus crash out of baltimore. take a look at this video. a commuter bus collided here

crash. we understand three people are dead, although now it's not clear whether any of those people are students or whether or not any students were on board the school bus. the side of the commuter bus is ripped apart. debris is spilling out on the roadway. we're going to stay on top of this and bring new information as soon as we get it. two children and adult are in chunky, mississippi. troopers are having a tough time dealing with the tragedy. >> it's a small community. this is a bad thing to happen anywhere, but when it's local, it really hits home. these are good people and our hearts go out to them. >> investigators say the three people killed are all related to one another. let's get to weather and

street. this is just north of bar lake. shawn, what are you learning at this hour? >> reporter: britt, police have been here for about five hours investigating this case. we know now this all started at a halloween party, and then led up to a fight that ultimately had someone dying. what police are telling us is around 1:30 in the morning they arrived in the area because someone called and said there was a man on his porch bleeding. police arrived to find the man had several stab wounds. and at the hospital he later died a few hours after going through surgery. of course, police now investigating this as a homicide. they don't have any suspect information at this time. but they are working to get more details through their investigation. we know they are talking to the family in this case and they are working to get a search warrant so they can continue to get more details here on scene. that's why they're going to have this area closed off for some time. we'll remain on scene, continue to gather details and bring those to you.

shawn, thank you. we've been watching this breaking news as well out of baltimore. as you can see here, there is a terrible crash. a deadly one. a baltimore school bus and commuter "crash"ed. six people are dead. no people were on board the school bus at the time of the crash. video is showing us how the front part of the school bus smashed into the side of that commuter bus. it seems just don't know how this happened yet. we'll continue to stay on top of it. new this morning we have a sketch of one of the people wanted for a shooting near the cu boulder campus saturday night. have a look. police say this man shot another man in the parking lot. he is a black male, about 5'9" and 150 pounds and had short hair. the person shot is out of the hospital. he was apparently just a bystander during a fight that

morning. investigators want to find another person who also fired shots. crews will likely search a northern colorado landfill today for a missing 13-month- old baby from cheyenne, wyoming. they planned to search yesterday but the high winds forced them to postpone. logan rogers is accused of killing his girlfriend's baby and putting the body in a dumpster. he faces manslaughter and reckless child endangerment charges. he told investigators he brought the 13-month-old boy to a house where people smoking meth. he says the child fell off a counter, hit his head and eventually died. rogers initially said he put that body in a dumpster outside a community college in cheyenne. the contents of that dumpster are then taken to a landfill in alt, colorado. he's been changing his story on where the body might be. 6:34 now. time for weather and traffic every 10 minutes on the 4s. ashton, give me more of that

you probably have a drive time up to 20, 25 minutes from 120th to i-70. this accident, side street accident, so not on i-270 itself, but quebec. couple of side street trouble spots. southbound along i-225 slowing down. southbound coming down into town, 35 minutes on that drive time from 120th to i-70. speeds into the 30s eastbound alon mountain drive this week. it's all for rock scaling and mitigation work going on on georgetown hill. people traveling through clear creek county should plan on delays up to two hours. the work will last through thursday and crews from 8:00 in the morning until 5:00 at night. investigators say they know who put nail boards along a bike trail in eagle county.

cyclists posted these photos on facebook. the wooden strips with nails on what's known as the dirt surfer trail. investigators say it appears isolated to a one-mile section. officers are saying they know who did it, but aren't telling us whether they have made an arrest. people have new options for affordable housing in denver. today city leaders are celebrating the latest project to open in the city. thewell ton park apartments offer 223 affordable rental units for low and moderate income households. crews build them near wellton and park avenue. warm outside, but won't be long before you have to fire up the heaters. those who need help paying their bills start today. the leap program is available to help thousands with home heating costs. they helped nearly 12,000 people last year. that is an increase of nearly 2,000 over the previous year.

>> reporter: we are watching a busy scene behind me. you can see this patrol car and several homes down where police are doing their investigation. they've been here for about five hours working this scene. we know it started around 1:30 in the morning because someone called police saying there was a man on his porch bleeding. this all comes from a halloween party nearby where there was likely a fight. the man that was bleeding had multiple stab wounds and was taken to the hospital. he later died there hours later surgery. now police are investigating this as a homicide, trying to find any possible suspects in this case. don't have anyone at this point. but they are talking to the family and are working on a search warrant to go inside. we know that police will be here for some time. at this point all they can tell us about the victim, a man in his 30s who may not have known the person who was calling 911, and also likely doesn't live in this area or at least at the

the evacuation was necessary because what they found inside was hazardous materials. they evacuated people so they could detonate these devices that were found. take a listen. [ sound of explosion ] >> reporter: authorities detonated two devices and what they found, they describe as volatile chemicals inside of the home and explosive devices. they were detonated on the go homes. they arrested two teenage boys yesterday morning, the arrests unrelated to the chemicals found in one of the homes. police chief said there had been a number of car break-ins. the teens were acting suspicious and were arrested. when police couldn't get a hold of their parents, they went to one of their homes and it required an all hands on deck response. >> while the officers were in
