we have two breaking stories to tell you about this morning. two dozen families can now return home after spending the night evacuated. investigators found explosive materials in the plum creek neighborhood in castle rock. and a possible stabbing attack in brighton. good morning, everybody. i'm alan gionet. >> i'm britt moreno. we are going to start right investigation. >> shawn chitness is on east bridge street, north of bar lake in brighton. what's going on, shawn? >> reporter: we just got a few more details from brighton police. this is happening inside the east gate mobile home park. police now telling us a little bit more about how all of this started. of course, now it is a homicide investigation. they did get the call around 1:30 in the morning, a man saying there was someone on his

we know those were in fact stab wounds. so that man, the victim, was taken to a hospital and later died in surgery from those injuries. we also know there was a halloween party happening somewhere in the area, not necessarily at this same home where that man was found. at that party there could have been a fight that led up to what ultimately injured that man and then where he died from those injuries at the hospital. we know he is in his 30s. he particular house. at this time brighton police don't have any information on a possible suspect. they are talking to the family and working on getting a search warrant. we'll remain on scene, continue to get more details and bring them to you. live in brighton, shawn chitness, cbs4 morning news. thank you, shawn. we have more breaking news to bring you. more than two dozen castle rock families can go home, this after the discovery of explosive materials inside a house in the plum creek

arrested two teenagers. our jamie leary is working this story. she's live in that neighborhood. jamie, we can only imagine it has been a long night for these people. >> reporter: long night. there are about 30 people here allowed to come back. they were told at 5:00 this morning they could come back. they've been slowly filtering in, only a handful of them. we tried to talk to a few. they definitely don't want to talk to the media this morning. a long day and night for them. one man said he came dog out and had to head to work. this is the house where the hazardous materials were recovered from. you can see the bags and buckets piled in the driveway. officers are keeping an eye on the place. it was about 12 hours after these chemicals and devices were found inside of the home that a bomb squad took them out to the golf course to detonate

inside the home and the bombs, they were detonated in a hole on the golf course. the course butts up to the homes, so you can understand why they had to be evacuated. the devices were discovered after the arrests of two teenage boys yesterday morning. their arrests unrelated to the chemicals found in one of their homes. investigatorssay one of the two teens had extensive knowledge of chemicals. >> in my time here i have not sophistication from a juvenile. >> reporter: both of those teens remain in custody this morning. it's unclear what charges they will be facing, but now we are told they're unrelated to the chemicals found in the home. live in castle rock, jamie leary, cbs4 morning news. thank you. more breaking news, this time of a deadly bus crash out of baltimore. take a look at this video. a commuter bus collided here

crash. we understand three people are dead, although now it's not clear whether any of those people are students or whether or not any students were on board the school bus. the side of the commuter bus is ripped apart. debris is spilling out on the roadway. we're going to stay on top of this and bring new information as soon as we get it. two children and adult are in chunky, mississippi. troopers are having a tough time dealing with the tragedy. >> it's a small community. this is a bad thing to happen anywhere, but when it's local, it really hits home. these are good people and our hearts go out to them. >> investigators say the three people killed are all related to one another. let's get to weather and

4s. ashton is talking about records. >> yesterday we tied the record for the warmest halloween on record in denver. we made it to 79 yesterday. today about 15 degrees below where we were. still above normal for the first of november. but not as warm. this morning temperatures we have to call it mild for the first november morning. we have temperatures in the 40s and 50s around town. it's anywhere from 10 to 20, even 25 degrees colder than yesterday. erie is 25 degrees colder than yesterday at th it's chilly this morning. overall today we'll call it cool, how about that? by noon, 62 and a high temperature of 67. normally this time of year we start around 30 degrees, and then we end up in the upper 50s. it's still above normal. let's get a check on the traffic. here's joel. been a pretty good start. we're watching from copter 4 which is giving us our first

i-270. seeing speeds into the 50s steadily now. nine minutes from thornton to denver. slowing westbound along u.s. 36. no slowing yet i-270. starting to see the slowing develop as you get around the stadium curve. but nothing too bad. up into the high country, happening now cdot warning drivers traveling eastbound along i-70 sun glare a huge problem on floyd hill this time of year, and all the way through february, especially morning. cdot warning drivers to be prepared and remember those sunglasses. police say a shooting outside the clinton library in arkansas had nothing to do with the upcoming presidential election. a bullet hit one person in the lower leg. it apparently happened during a robbery late at the library's parking lot where a person had been selling blue jeans. there are no arrests to report. the person will be okay. we are one week out, can

day. and colorado campaign stops are far from over. today chelsea clinton starts a two-day visit to our state to help out her mom. she will attend a get out and vote event tonight in aurora at the martin luther king, jr. library. that event starts at 6:00. she will also spend time at the north boulder coordinated campaign office tomorrow. the event there starts at 9:00 in the morning. but there's more. republican vice presidential nominee mike pence is getting ready for a colorado stop. he will come pence is supposed to speak at the larimer county fairgrounds and that starts at 5:30. hillary clinton heads back to florida today as the fbi searches through thousands of newly discovered e-mails, possibly connected to her private server. clinton is trying to put the focus back onto donald trump. >> i want you to be able to say i voted for a better, fairer, stronger america. >> clinton backers are accusing

the probe to congress, but staying silent on its investigations into the trump campaign's alleged ties to russia. the justice department says it will commit all resources necessary to review e-mails quickly. trump who criticized comey previously is now praising him. >> if hillary is elected, she would be under protracted criminal investigation likely followed by the trial of a sitting president. >> trump campaigns in washington. a new poll shows the race for u.s. senate in colorado has tightened. the battleground tracker poll shows democratic michael bennet with only a 5-point lead over republican challenger darryl glenn. the latest spread is 46 to 41%, just outside the 4-point margin of error. here are the latest early voting numbers from the

second warmest october on record. three-way tie there. remarkable. 31 in limon. 41 in pueblo. 31 in leadville. it's quite chilly in some areas. in the denver area we're waking up to temperatures in the 40s and 50s. make sure you're prepared for that outside. it definitely feels colder than yesterday at this time. later on 60s up and down the front range. 50s and a few 60s for the mountains. aspen should reach 60. 65 in grand junction later on. partly cloudy skies as cold front has come through. that's why we're going to be cooler today. upper level system coming in back behind the front. that will create a few mountain rain and snow showers. the snow will be limited to areas above 10,000 feet. any accumulation, even up that high will be minor. maybe an inch or two in a few spots. midnight tonight could be snow over vail pass around midnight tonight. tomorrow morning there may be a batch of snow over the mountains of northern park county. today in denver, 67.

of the week and through the upcoming weekend with a slight chance for a shower on saturday. here's the traffic. good morning and take a look at from copter 4, i-25, i- 225 into the tech center. it is starting to load up and slow down. that's what we're seeing across the metro area. southbound coming into town speeds into the 40s behind this. we have an 11 minute drive from thornton to denver. westbound along i-76 not bad. i-270 through commerce city loading up and slowing down. a lot of volume. this is our cbs4 mousetrap cam. headlights southbound along i-2 making their approach to i-70, and slowing in the northbound direction of i-25 as well. across the denver metro area a lot of green on this map. that means at or near posted speed limits. we have the overnight ramp closures out of the way at colorado and evans. they go back in place tonight starting at 7:00 until 5:30

there's a new study that finds possible racial discrimination from uber and it is november 1st, and one store starts black friday deals today. this is the news on wall street. jill wagner is live at the new york stock exchange. good morning, jill. >> reporter: good morning, britt. more earnings come out this week. yesterday the dow fell 18 points. the nasdaq was flat. futures now are pointing to a higher open. a new study finds that uber and against black and female passengers. researchers looked at rides in seattle and boston, and those are african-american sounding names have longer wait times and female passengers often have to pay more because they get stuck with chatty drivers who drag out the trip. halloween is only hours behind us, but for amazon today marks the start of the holiday season. they're launching their black friday deal store today.

deals as often as every five minutes. it's starting to look like the holiday at starbucks. anonymous barista leaked the photo of the holiday cups. if you remember, last year their solid red criticism. happening right now, thousands of people are finding new ways to get to work and school in philadelphia. about 4700 transit workers are now on strike in philly. they were unable to reach a contract agreement by midnight. regional rail lines are the one thing not affected. but school children there are. nearly 60,000 kids use that service to get to and from school each day in

eastern alabama after a deadly explosion. it happened yesterday along the colonial pipeline in shelby. crews hit a petroleum pipeline, igniting gas and causing a massive explosion there. that blast killed one worker. it hurt several others. this is the same line that leaked hundreds of thousands of gallons of gasoline just last month. people on the east coast could face higher gas colonial supply z about a third of the gas used on the east coast every day. reach out to a cubs' fan today. they're on the brink tonight in cleveland on game sykes of the world series. the cubs are down to the indians 3 games to two. but they did come back and win sunday night. so there is some hope. for cubs' fans, you just cling to that. and we're there for you in it doesn't go well. if you get there to game 7, oh, we're with you. >> fingers crossed.

breaking news this morning, more than a dozen crock families evacuated in the plum creek neighborhood are returning home now. investigators told them to get out after they found explosive materials inside a house. >> that was all unfolding soon teenagers yesterday in downtown castle rock. our jamie leary is live in that neighborhood and is sorting out this complicated story. good morning, jamie. >> reporter: good morning, alan, good morning, britt. about 30 people were evacuated yesterday, told they could come back this morning around 5:00. i wanted to show you what police recovered from this home they're looking into currently. you can see all the hazardous material bags and bins that are sitting outside. it's still blocked off this

morning, they're filtering in, only a handful have been here. they haven't wanted to talk to media. it's been a long morning for them so far. unbelievable day what one man told me. it's the closest we've been able to get to the house under investigation since the evacuations yesterday. police described the items they recovered as volatile chemicals. the two teens they arrested, one they sa knowledge of chemicals. they had a detonation on the golf course that butts up into these homes. the investigation is ongoing. coming up we'll have the latest for you. live in castle rock, jamie leary, cbs4 news. thank you so much. breaking news out of adams county this morning. we know a man is dead and the person responsible is likely on run. cbs4's shawn chitness is live at that trailer park where this

street. this is just north of bar lake. shawn, what are you learning at this hour? >> reporter: britt, police have been here for about five hours investigating this case. we know now this all started at a halloween party, and then led up to a fight that ultimately had someone dying. what police are telling us is around 1:30 in the morning they arrived in the area because someone called and said there was a man on his porch bleeding. police arrived to find the man had several stab wounds. and at the hospital he later died a few hours after going through surgery. of course, police now investigating this as a homicide. they don't have any suspect information at this time. but they are working to get more details through their investigation. we know they are talking to the family in this case and they are working to get a search warrant so they can continue to get more details here on scene. that's why they're going to have this area closed off for some time. we'll remain on scene, continue to gather details and bring those to you.

shawn, thank you. we've been watching this breaking news as well out of baltimore. as you can see here, there is a terrible crash. a deadly one. a baltimore school bus and commuter "crash"ed. six people are dead. no people were on board the school bus at the time of the crash. video is showing us how the front part of the school bus smashed into the side of that commuter bus. it seems just don't know how this happened yet. we'll continue to stay on top of it. new this morning we have a sketch of one of the people wanted for a shooting near the cu boulder campus saturday night. have a look. police say this man shot another man in the parking lot. he is a black male, about 5'9" and 150 pounds and had short hair. the person shot is out of the hospital. he was apparently just a bystander during a fight that

morning. investigators want to find another person who also fired shots. crews will likely search a northern colorado landfill today for a missing 13-month- old baby from cheyenne, wyoming. they planned to search yesterday but the high winds forced them to postpone. logan rogers is accused of killing his girlfriend's baby and putting the body in a dumpster. he faces manslaughter and reckless child endangerment charges. he told investigators he brought the 13-month-old boy to a house where people smoking meth. he says the child fell off a counter, hit his head and eventually died. rogers initially said he put that body in a dumpster outside a community college in cheyenne. the contents of that dumpster are then taken to a landfill in alt, colorado. he's been changing his story on where the body might be. 6:34 now. time for weather and traffic every 10 minutes on the 4s. ashton, give me more of that

exactly normal for early november either. just now starting to see a little bit of light on the eastern horizon. we have less than an hour to go before our official sunrise, 6:27 after the time change this weekend, sun will be up an hour earlier. 46 degrees the temperature now. look at this shot from estes park from marsha hobert. beautiful halloween in the mountains yesterday. this is a spooky wadsworth from thad yesterday. this is what the maroon bells looked like. this is a photo of my wife and son for his first day of trick or treating. 45 in boulder. 49 now at dia. most mountain towns are near freezing currently. we'll climb into the 50s in the mountains later on. 60s for the western slope. 60s and 70s for the eastern

still above normal, but not as warm as our 79 yesterday. partly cloudy skies covering colorado. here's why. front has gone by and behind the front we're going to have an area of low pressure upper levels of the atmosphere influencing our weather. that will mean a chance for a few rain and snow showers in the mountains. not much, but mountain areas above 10,000 feet later today and into tonight, could be minor accumulation, but not much. certainly not a big mountain snowstorm. 67 today in denver. 60 tomorrow. our cool up near 70 with sunshine for thursday, friday. joel, there is a slight chance for rain on saturday. i hope that develops into something. we have flashing lights now, southbound along i-25 at 84th. that is just not the spot where you want to have an accident this time of day. we have a lot of volume, and that's really going to start to stack up. that damage will carry in through the morning commute. across the denver metro area, you can see right in behind

you probably have a drive time up to 20, 25 minutes from 120th to i-70. this accident, side street accident, so not on i-270 itself, but quebec. couple of side street trouble spots. southbound along i-225 slowing down. southbound coming down into town, 35 minutes on that drive time from 120th to i-70. speeds into the 30s eastbound alon mountain drive this week. it's all for rock scaling and mitigation work going on on georgetown hill. people traveling through clear creek county should plan on delays up to two hours. the work will last through thursday and crews from 8:00 in the morning until 5:00 at night. investigators say they know who put nail boards along a bike trail in eagle county.

cyclists posted these photos on facebook. the wooden strips with nails on what's known as the dirt surfer trail. investigators say it appears isolated to a one-mile section. officers are saying they know who did it, but aren't telling us whether they have made an arrest. people have new options for affordable housing in denver. today city leaders are celebrating the latest project to open in the city. thewell ton park apartments offer 223 affordable rental units for low and moderate income households. crews build them near wellton and park avenue. warm outside, but won't be long before you have to fire up the heaters. those who need help paying their bills start today. the leap program is available to help thousands with home heating costs. they helped nearly 12,000 people last year. that is an increase of nearly 2,000 over the previous year.

the new month. let's get a check on the traffic with joel. we've had intermittent full closures southbound i-25 at 84th. big traffic alert southbound coming into town blocking off the left express toll lane as well as the left lane in the center lane just the right lane gets by, and they're doing intermittent closures as they're trying to clean up. and ongoing rescue operations as they're trying to get somebody out of that car, the car in the front. we follow this. we're seeing huge delays, in the single digits speeds now. alan, 49 minutes from thornton to denver. i'd jump on federal or colorado to get around that. joel, thanks a lot. i want to check back with you in a few minutes. breaking news now in adams county. busy morning at a mobile home park in brighton. one man is dead. so far no word of arrests. our shawn chitness is live here

>> reporter: we are watching a busy scene behind me. you can see this patrol car and several homes down where police are doing their investigation. they've been here for about five hours working this scene. we know it started around 1:30 in the morning because someone called police saying there was a man on his porch bleeding. this all comes from a halloween party nearby where there was likely a fight. the man that was bleeding had multiple stab wounds and was taken to the hospital. he later died there hours later surgery. now police are investigating this as a homicide, trying to find any possible suspects in this case. don't have anyone at this point. but they are talking to the family and are working on a search warrant to go inside. we know that police will be here for some time. at this point all they can tell us about the victim, a man in his 30s who may not have known the person who was calling 911, and also likely doesn't live in this area or at least at the

news. shawn, thank you so much. it is a busy morning here. we have more breaking news to tell you about. evacuations are over for more than a dozen castle rock families. they are getting to move back into their homes this morning after the discovery of explosive material inside a plum creek neighborhood home. our jamie leary is live in that neighborhood. she's been there all morning long. now you have an update for us. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, britt. 30 families told come back around 5:00 this morning. we've been keeping an eye on the neighborhood. the latest is a few of them have started to filter back in. they didn't want to talk on camera. i talked to one man who said he was just here to let his dog out. he said he knew the family where the house is being investigated. i want to show you that house in question. just behind me you can see hazardous materials bags piled in the driveway. caution tape around the house. this is a house that's under

the evacuation was necessary because what they found inside was hazardous materials. they evacuated people so they could detonate these devices that were found. take a listen. [ sound of explosion ] >> reporter: authorities detonated two devices and what they found, they describe as volatile chemicals inside of the home and explosive devices. they were detonated on the go homes. they arrested two teenage boys yesterday morning, the arrests unrelated to the chemicals found in one of the homes. police chief said there had been a number of car break-ins. the teens were acting suspicious and were arrested. when police couldn't get a hold of their parents, they went to one of their homes and it required an all hands on deck response. >> while the officers were in

a camera shows drivers avoiding the child, but heading on. several came within inches of him. an officer finally saw it and rushed over to grab the child right here. plucked him out of the way, and got him to safety. new video shows an officer helping an 87-year-old woman from a burning car in new mexico. this santa fe woman had been driving on a flat tire to see her doctor. but the tire caught fire. the officer was able to get her out of and put the fire out. she's okay. >> that's a close call. tonight baseball fans will fill progressive field in cleveland for game six of the world series. a motorcade left wrigley field last night with the cubs. drivers watched as police escorted the team vans. a stubhub spokesman says more than a quarter of the game tickets sold on that site went to credit cards associated with illinois zip codes.
