hi, everybody. people are back in their homes after the discovery of dangerous chemicals forces them out on halloween. this is the news on cbs4. i'm alan gionet. copter 4 shows us where the bomb squad blew up the chemicals in castle rock. you can see the damage just behind the home where they found those chemicals.

there's still a lot of questions about the chemicals and the arrests of the teenagers that led to their discovery. >> reporter: yes, still a lot of questions, the investigation pretty fresh. fortunately those 30 people allowed back into their homes. behind me is the house under investigation. now there are still bags piled in the driveway labeled hazardous materials. it's literally just behind this house in a sand trap where police detonated the explosive devi [ sound of explosion ] >> reporter: that happened last night about 12 hours after investigators made the discovery of what they described as volatile chemicals. that discovery came after police arrested two teens suspecting they may be connected to a spring of car break-in -- string of car break- ins.

teens. one of the two teens had an extensive knowledge of chemicals and what was being manufactured was sophisticated. one neighbor told us she was grateful police found the explosives and couldn't believe they were being made a few houses down. >> based on the neighborhood, total shock. this is a very quiet neighborhood. very few problems. i just >> in my time here i have not seen this level of sophistication from a juvenile. >> reporter: now, the scene here has been processed and shut down. i'm told the families will have to contract somebody to come clean up this hazardous waste while police supervise. both teens still in custody based on charges not related

jamie leary, cbs4 news. >> thank you, jamie. searchers are looking for the remains of a child in a landfill in alt, north of greeley. the child's grandfather reported the 13-month-old missing last week of the the boy lived with his mother and boyfriend in cheyenne. that boyfriend is being blamed. logan involuntary manslaughter and child endangerment. he said the boy fell and hit his head. he said he left the body in a container at a community college. that trash goes to a landfill in ault. several agencies are helping in a grid search looking for the toddler's body. we are told it could take as long as two weeks to complete that search.

alabama continues to burn after an explosion, a big one. a crew hit the line with a piece of equipment. one person died in that explosion. it sent massive flames and clouds of thick black smoke into the skies over central alabama. it started wildfires and that forced evacuations. >> when you're dealing with fire you just don't know how fast it will move. we're trying to get this under control. >> the colonial pipeline proves 50 million people stretching from the gulf coast up to new england. experts say they could all face high prices at the pump by the weekend, as well as shortages. the feds will join the investigation into the deadly crash involving a school bus and commuter bus this morning in baltimore. six people are dead from this crash. five on that metropolitan transit authority bus.

>> we have unfortunately six families that we have to notify that their loved ones aren't coming home. >> reporter: no children were yet aboard the school bus that collided with a maryland public bus this morning in southwest baltimore. the driver of the school bus died, as well as at least five more aboard the mta bus. >> obviously folks who are on a bus this time of the morning are working folks. they're on their way to make a living, on their way to their jobs and on their support their families. >> reporter: the impact obliterated parts of both buses, shearing off the side of the mta bus, crumpling the front of the school bus and scattering debris. >> it literally looks like a bomb exploded in the bus. catastrophic damage. >> reporter: investigators say the bus truck the rear of this mustang, then hit a concrete pillar before veering into oncoming traffic into the path of the mta bus.
