called 911. >> reporter: greene was wanted for killing two police officers. the first, just after 1:00 a.m. in greene's hometown. the second, 20 minutes later and two miles away in des moines. police say they were ambushed. >> definitely was no opportunity for the officers to defend themselves. they were seated this their cars. and, were shot while they were sitting. >> reporter: the officers were identified as des moines sergeant anthony beminio and urbandale officer justin martin. greene was no stranger enforcement. he was issued a warning for waving a confederate flag during the national anthem at his daughter's game. >> he wavered it in front of people of color. there were people who felt that was offensive. >> reporter: police took greene to a hospital after he complained of a medical condition. charges have not yet been announced. danielle nottingham, cbs news, urbandale, iowa. police don't yet know how

or just how he got them. we have video of a home under construction on fire. this is in cherry hills. reporter greg foster sent us this video there. we don't know if anyone was hurt. this is the news in health, a disturbing spike in a polio like disease in washington state caught the attention of doctors all over the country including in colorado. washington have a rare condition known as afm. at least 7 others there could also have it. one of them died over the weekend. doctors at children's hospital here treated 12 patients with afm in 2014. they noticed the increase in cases coincided wi an outbreak, a widespread outbreak of a respiratory illness caused by intero virus d-68.

you can see they are up at telluride. loveland got a little snow. and we had scattered showers around here. not much going on eastern plains. a little clouds down to the southeast. that is it. denver got to the sunny skies today, but still, it stayed on the cool side as the front pushed on throughment along the front, heavier showers and thunderstorms and in central illinois now. they have believe it or not, severe thunderstorm warnings and a tornado warning out. that is how heavy these storms are right along the fr watching all this cool weather slide right into our area over the last three days and it has culminated into a temperature of 62 degrees. out ahead of it still very warm. you can see the 80s and the 90s . and right where the tornado warning is, that is the cool air slamming into the warm moist air. that is why they have the severe storms. temperature change for the past 24 hours, it is 8 degrees coolerment aspen, 10 degrees

harlan in lakeside. the students are scrambling after this career college suddenly shut its doors without notice. many have paid $15,000 or more in tuition. and, some were just short of their diplomas. the school offers training and medical professions. the department of higher education for the state of colorado is telling us that it is talking with heritage officials about obtaining student records and placement. >> in florida where the attorney representing jennifer lobato's family says they are much closer to justice after a settlement with jefferson county. she died of opioid withdrawal in custody at the jefferson county jail. her fellow inmates said despite

treatment and education in the jail. the family attorney says the $2.5 million settlement will be split between her seven kids but they won't have access to the funds until they are 21. i'm kelly werthmann in denver where today, the city launched a program to help put the homeless to work. denver day works is a pilot program aimed at giving the homeless same day jobs like helping parks and rec or public works. more than a dozen homeless joined mayor michael plants treeing in civic center parks. it provides the worker withs tools they need for the job as well as lunch and each person will earn 12.49 an hour. the goal is to connect each person with a more permanent job with city agencies. the program runs through the end of next october. >> and that tree planting weather will continue. >> pretty nice. 62 degrees today. close tore normal. but you can't hold a temperature down. we are 10 degrees above normal tomorrow with 68.
