this field. >> audrey marie elizabeth hurtado had been stabbed to death. >> reporter: sketches of a young man spotted with audrey the day she went missing while in buena vista visiting family was all investigators had to work with back then. now, new dna technology is helping them to close the case. >> the day audrey hurtado's body was found on july 28, 1977 ... >> reporter: chuck hampton was police chief when the murder happened. >> every member of the buena four of us, were committed to doing everything possible to investigate this case to the best of our ability. >> reporter: investigators say a 15-year-old boy only identified as ck was also on the suspect list. but, when he died in a motorcycle accident in 1981, the trail went cold. until brand new dna test matched to that teenage boy closing the case for good. >> thank god. she can rest in peace now. >> reporter: audrey's brother

even though the pain consumed him over the years. >> finally. i would like to apologize. excuse me. to the hurtado family for not being able to close this case 39 years ago. >> reporter: an emotion mall close to a murder mystery. >> we owe that to a lot of people. and we appreciate it. >> reporter: colorado bureau of investigators who also took over the case to dna evidence credit the work of those local police detectives in making sure they had all of that evidence and they kept it safe all those years. they say ha is the key in this case. they were able to keep the dna and test it today. also, there's a lot of other unsolved murders here in colorado. and, the family in this case, they have a word for those other families out there. they say keep hope alive that they, too, will find justice.

thanks matt. now, to new information involveing the murder of a young man above a popular bagel shot in denver asaphia points neighborhood. the suspect, brian pattison appeared in court pleading not guilty to murder and arson charges. he shot and killed shane richardson at an apartment above rosenburg's bagels. then he allegedly set the building on fire to cover up the mid. a judge ordered a suspect in two ly hours before the crimes. >> he says scott green abused and financially exploited his mother. this is the news across america. greene was released from the hospital where he had been since the cop shootings. he shot and killed two police officers in an ambush style attack while they sat in their patrol car. greene's mother applied for a restraining order afterthey had a physical altercation. greene faces two counts of first degree murder.

moisture along with that front is back to the east. we had a tornado in central illinois yesterday. showers not as severe, but all along the fronts back east, we sit high and dry under the high pressure system. the cooler air has moved in though. and you can see it is chasing that warm air just down to the southeast. so we are a little cooler than we had been. but, it is warmer than normal nor this time of the year once again. here it is. temperature change in the last 24 normal. so let's go to lauren in the colorado weather center. we have been talking about the warm dry mild weather for weeks but now we are talking about something we have not talked about in a long time. >> reporter: we are talking snow in the state. we have a big area of low pressure to the southwest bringing bigger storms now to phoenix. dust storms, rain in arizona as well. that low pressure is going to move our direction tomorrow. and ahead of that, we will start to see moisture swing up into the state and by saturday morning, we have snow in our san juans. this will start tomorrow as

more cloudy tomorrow ahead of this. could have rain in the foothills by saturday morning in some spots and we may get a couple of showers saturday afternoon in the denver area. however, most of it for us should stay south of monument hill. and you can see in the southern part of the state, we may get some of that snow as well. some of the snow areas could pick up a couple of inches. most of it will be above 10,000 feet. but, if you are hunting this weekend, third season starts, there will be some wet weather in the high country. down to the south western mountains. some of the roads can t little sloppy. ed, there is actually advisories out there. >> that's right. it has been issued. you can see it in south western colorado. winter weather advisory. friday to noon saturday. good news for them. it will be mainly above 10,000 feet. but we could see 3 to 6 inches of new snow. 69 and 70 the highs today. should be at 58. so again, above normal as were the lows at 36 and 38. should be at 30. the warmest and coolest we have had on this date.
