november 4th. >> i'm alan gionet. great to have you with us. here's what's happening right now on the cbs4 morning news. >> they're old. they need to relate more and they don't relate. >> we're close. four days from election day and former president bill clinton comes to colorado today. his mission to get young people out to the polls. could a shootout in denver have been prevented? what we've learned about an incident in lodo where hundreds of fires were shot leaving one man dead. degrees in the denver area. most mountain towns are in the 20s. a storm system is moving towards colorado. we'll talk about what it means for your weekend coming up. no crashes on the highway this morning. i-70 and kipling here. we'll show you drive times coming up in a bit. with four days left until election day the campaigns hit colorado once again today and this is a sign colorado is yet again a key battleground state.

to town. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, britt. that is right. colorado is again rocking as a swing state. this morning both parties will zero in hoping to sway those undecided voters. this morning bill clinton campaigning for his wife in pueblo, followed by afternoon events in denver and fort collins. also set to make three stops in colorado is former presidential candidate dr. ben carson. s colorado springs. he's then going to head to castle rock and cap off his jam packed day with an appearance in aurora. the rush for some last-minute face time in colorado comes as the most recent poll shows the race tightening here. a university of denver poll released wednesday showed clinton and trump basically in a dead heat. if you had any doubts about colorado being a swing state, the fact that both bill clinton and ben carson have scheduled a

colorado is crucial in this election. also taking part in a big campaign push is senator bernie sanders. he's actually headed to colorado on saturday. he's going to make stops in colorado springs and aurora, stumping for hillary clinton. we've got all the details and we'll continue to follow these visits up until campaign day. live from the capitol, jamie leary, cbs4 thank you. how it was one of the busiest days yesterday for both democrats and republicans. >> reporter: with just days to go, hillary clinton and donald trump are waging a battle for the white house on multiple fronts. >> maybe we'll see even more history made in a few days. >> reporter: clinton in north carolina playing off the historic world series victory of her hometown cubs. and trump in north carolina.

of an abundance of caution. 5:04 on this friday. let's get a check of weather and traffic now. >> good morning to you, britt. good friday morning, everybody. still very dark outside. sun will be up at 7:32. with the time shift this weekend, sun will be up at 6:30 on monday morning. so will be a lot brighter for the morning commute. 43 the temperature outside in downtown denver. colder to the north. erry at 31 -- erie at 31. few clouds moving in south. you can see a storm system between albuquerque and phoenix, bringing snow to the san juan mountains. other mountain areas, including the i-70 corridor, won't see that much snow. we'll get details coming up. today will be a beautiful day. lots of sunshine. 9:00a.m., 49 degrees. lunchtime temperature 65. and a high today of 71. that's a quick look at your weather. full weekend forecast is coming up. now let's check in with joel hillan for the latest on your traffic.

to like it. hopefully we can keep this friday drive going all the way through that morning commute. here we are across the denver metro area. only delay now is northbound along c-470 along the hog back from ken caryl to bowles, they've been doing ongoing paving work there. southbound coming into town, nine minutes from thornton to denver. on the 29th of july a deadly shooting involving hundreds of shots place in lodo. >> now a cbs4 investigation is trying to determine if it could have been prevented. here's our brian maass. >> reporter: it was a night of contrasts. in lodo a popular hip-hop show. across town -- >> how easy is this? >> reporter: donald trump rallied supporters at lowry. worried about protestors. police crafted plans to deal with trouble. they called for specialized

be present. after action reports indicate the trump rally was noncontroversial, ending at 8:00, so there was nothing more for the gang unit to do here. but there was plenty to do in lodo. promoters of this show notified denver police of potential problems. lots of gang members at the show. that was relayed to the lieutenant running the gang unit, ron mcdaniel. but according to information obtained by cbs4, he subordinate check social media which didn't indicate problems, so he sent them home, three to four hours before the end of their shift. >> it was a bad decision. >> reporter: after the show ended outside a gang war broke out. some 200 shots fired from 18 weapons. cars, buildings and people were shot. >> over 200 shots in that amount of time, like 20, 30 seconds i think that was more

armstrong died in the parking lot. in documents police wrote the death might not have happened had there been a visible police presence. deputy chief -- >> there were no gang unit officers available? >> there were no gang unit officers to respond, that's correct. >> reporter: we shared what we found with armstrong's mother. >> if you see a police officer, you're going to freeze up. you're going to be like, you know, just, you're not going to you're not. >> reporter: lieutenant mcdaniel admitted sending officers home that night hours before their shift ending with a warning of potential gang violence was a bad idea. he was penalized six days pay. >> according to your documents we have a life that was lost because there was no policing. >> reporter: community activist charlotte evans -- >> that's a slap on the wrist.

slim at this point. boulder at 39 now. greeley 27. also 27 in leadville. later on most mountain towns will top out in the 50s, if not lower 60s. we'll see 60s and 70s on the eastern plains and highs today will be a few degrees warmer in denver, the lower 70s. yesterday we officially topped out at 69 for a high temperature. you can already see cloud cover moving in from the south. it's all associated with this storm system the arizona/new mexico state line. upper level low. since it's coming from the south it's our southern mountains that will benefit the most. red mountain pass 3 to 6 inches of snow. the mountains surrounding telluride, ouray at least 3 to 6 inches. could be locally higher amounts above about 11,000 or 12,000 feet. accumulation elsewhere will be minor.

corridor i think it could be an inch or two. mainly mountain areas south of 70 that see snow. up to steamboat or winter park, a few flurries, but not much. 6:00p.m. this evening, durango you'll see a lot of rain, and pueblo and trinidad rain tomorrow. colorado springs maybe a shower or two. the farther north you go, the chance for rain is smaller an coming in from the south. 71 today with sunshine. tomorrow a slight chance of rain, better rain chances south of monument hill. then sunday high of 70. next week lower 60s, sunshine, including for election day tuesday. here's joel. good morning. i-70 at central park boulevard, nice and wide open as you're making your way out to the airport. maybe you've got fun travels this weekend. i hope you're heading for pleasure and not for business. southbound coming down into town speeds into the 60s.

just checked, stocks look off again ah you may want to get a move on refinancing or buying a home. >> mortgage rates jumped this week to their highest level in four months. freddie mac said thursday the ample 30-year fixed rate mortgage rose to 3.54%. still, rates remain at historic lows. some analysts predict rates will continue to rise, especially if the federal reserve raises its rate next month.

let's get to ashton and figure out what the weekend is looking like. good morning, britt, hey there, alan. for the weekend it honestly won't be bad. not as pleasant as it has been over the weekends for the last four, five, even six weeks. clouds for tomorrow and a slight chance of rain and we really need the rain. moderate drought for the metro area. i don't think we'll see much. this morning 20s for most mountaints necessary this morning. coming up we'll talk about the details of the weekend forecast as the storm system currently in arizona moves north. we'll talk about the impacts it will have on our state. now let's get a first check on traffic, here's joel. the only thing to show you down about this time in the morning is construction. we have a few projects out there. along i-25 and arapahoe road, no lanes are blocked off, but you have the bright lights in
