millions to the family of a man shot and killed by officers. naeschylus vinzatn was not armed. the city agreed to pay 2.6 million dollars to the family. >> reporter: and with the exception of that dollar amount the terms of the settlement are confidential. however today aurora's police chief said that this case has created big changes for the department. it is the largest monetary settlemen aurora's history. >> the terms of the settlement agreement include a monetary payment of 2.6 million dollars to the family of mr. vinzant. >> reporter: the 27-year-old was killed by aurora police last march. it was later learned the father of 8 was not armed when he was shot in the chest by officer paul jerothe who was not criminally charged. >> this is obviously, a verytragic event for everyone

since the shooting aurora police ening ated new re-- enacted new reforms and policies including a suppliance -- compliance to develop new policies and track the use of force and increase use of body cameras and a force review board with a new system for reporting officer-involved matters. >> policy and procedures will continue to be reviewed with the intent of improving the quality and timeliness of internal investigations. >> reporter: rather than allowing this tragedy to the community, carter vinzant's family says they are honoring his wishes by using the death as a way to positively change the police department. and in a statement, express gratitude to chief for always listening to and respecting the family's concerns. and another big change is that the internal affairs bureau is no longer here at aurora police headquarters. it has been moved to an off

died. car, the boy died. attorneys for justin ross harris said in closing arguments that harris forgot that the 22-month-old cooper was in the car. prosecutors though say harris watched a video of hot car dangers to animals five days before the boy died. they claim he deliberately left the boy to die to escape his parental commitments. deliberations start in the morning. the country's first female u.s. attorney general passed away today from of parkinson's disease. januaryth reno took office under a crisis in waco texas when the branch davidian religious group were in stand off with the fbi. she believed children were being abused on the property ordered a raid and 80 people died because of the invasion. something reno took responsibility for. >> i approved the plan and i am responsible for it. >> reno also oversaw the elian gonzales case which he was sent

the mountains where we did see snow. wolf creek 5 inches and that fits in nicely to the 3 to 6 we said they might have. and we had about an inch getting further north and a couple sprinkle along the eastern plains and that was about it. so as we take a look at the temperatures they are cool with the 60s around here but getting to the south a warmup with 70s, 80s and mid-80s getting down to phoenix. the big picture shows not a lot going on as well. you can see we do have the big area and when you see that you know there's ridge someplace. so let's go back to the weather center with lauren and show us where it is. >> for us that area of high pressure is over the desert southwest and it will continue to build really reach the maximum probably by wednesday and it's going to stay parked over the area for us. the jet stream is so far north for this time of year. there's nothing heading our direction. we are going to stay warm and very dry. and that area of high pressure will stick with us through the weekend and may breakdown and go to more of a zonial patry.
