good morning, :00 good morning, alan. good:00 :00 good morning, alan. good morning, everyone. it's 4:30 on november 9:00. i'm britt moreno. >> and i'm alan gionet. trump is going to be the 41st president of the united states. many of you are asleep. we want to give you a look at numbers and here you see. donald trump, hillary clinton closely linked here by 48%, but there you can see the numbers underneath them varying just a little bit. >> there's a popular vote. trump is going to be sworn in 72 days on january 20th despite what the polls showed before the election. trump won a majority of votes in key battleground states. jaime yuccas has the latest.

united states of america, donald trump. >> the crowd roared as donald trump made his entrance in his campaign easy lex night headquarters. >> i pledge to every citizen of la that i'll be president for all americans. >> trump pulled off wins in key battleground states tuesday night including florida, ohio, and north carolina. the trump campaign says hillary clinton called to concede. >> she congratulated us. about us on our victory, and i congratulated her and her family on a very, very hard fort campaign. >> stunned clinton supporters wiped away tears after the democrats multiple pass to victory disappeared by one by one. trump failed to carry the battleground states that obama won in 2012. trump -- they saw him as a washington outsiders.

what i voted for. >> ballots are being counted, but trump is looking forward to taking the orthopedic of office. jaime yuccas, cbs news new york >> we have not yet heard from hillary clinton, the only mention thus far has been what trump said in his speech last night. late last night, clinton campaign chair john padesta told clinton supporters to go home and get sleep because the race was too close to call. we found out to get elected. some supporters are looking ahead for what it means for the future of the country. >> i think it went from hopeful to anxious to just surprising, really. i think it's shocking to me. last month i celebrated my 20th birthday in the u.s. and it's hard when we elect a candidate that says everyone is going to get deported.

legal immigrants. he doesn't understand what the hb -- what the visa is for. >> the other big story this morning, world markets responding to the election results and they are tumbling this morning. in asia, japan's benchmark plunged more 6%. we'll get an update on the markets overall in a few minutes when we check in on wall street. >> the republicans are going to hold onto both the house and the senate leading the full c trump presidency. there were fears they would drag down some candidates in tough races and the opposite happened. he lifted some. the democrats hold a 46 to 56 race. republican kelly is trying to hold onto her seat against maggie hasan and

indiana and wisconsin last night, that means the senate stays republican. with at least 51 possibly as many as 53 u.s. senators as republicans. senate control means trump will have great leeway in appointing supreme court justices which means a shift to the right that could last decades. republicans will retain control. of the 435 seats in the house, democrats needed to pick up majority. they're expected to pick up ten maybe to 20. republicans hold 246 seats, we'll have 236 seats well over half. >> it's time to check on weather and traffic for this wednesday morning, and we'll start with ashton ashiti. good morning. >> we're looking at doppler four 4000 early and we see nothing. clear skies across the rocky mountain region and to prove this is

down in texas where they'll see rain. if you look around portland, you'll see a little bit of rain and that's apart of a cold front heading in our direction for the end of this week. it's not going to bring us moisture, but it will bring more seasonable temperatures our way by veteran's day on friday. we're in the 30s and 40s around all of the metro area, so certainly need the jacket early this morning, but you won't need it long. by 9:00, 49. noon, 68. and then a high temperature of 72. the record for the day so it's not quite record territory, but far above normal for november. let's get a check on the roads. here's joel hillan. >> good morning, ashton. the roads looking good. i 20 and arapahoe road, there's ongoing construction, but nothing sloping you down as you get to i-25 and across the denver-metro. we have road work along e-470. south of 285 as you make your way out to king

world markets because they're in a frenzy as they react to the election and trump called the winner and this morning, things are looking down. >> let's go live to the florida knock stock exchange as we look a head. the open 7:30 our time today. jill wagner is live there today. jill. >>reporter: good morning, alan t . donald trump's surprise win and the uncertainty surrender rounding a trump's president see is shocking the rk clinton victory. global markets are selling. asian markets are pummelling and dow's are point to go an 800 point drop at the open. they've recovered a great deal since clinton conceded. markets do not like uncertainty and there's questions surrounding trump's economic position. he wants -- it has been critical. there's concern the u.s. could withdraw from

peso drops on fears that trump -- move on wall street is similar to after that surprised vote in june when voters in the uk shocked the markets and voted to leave the eu and there was a massive sell out, but a quick rebound. we'll see if that happens now, bill and alan. we'll take a race for the u.s. senate ben bennett and glen. you can see the numbers are close still right 3% point difference this morning between michael bennett and daryl glen. here's dan bush with the reaction. >>reporter: michael bennett cruised to election -- >> we took care of business here in colorado thanks to all of you. came up short. >> washington has a lot to learn from colorado, and we need to set that example. [cheers and applause] >> democrats believe trump's rhetoric would send voters their way and in colorado it seems to have work. bennett calling for stability to return to politics. >> something is fundamentally wrong with our national politics and how we're governing our country, they're right and we have to chance. despite that race called from michael bennett. he's telling voters to hang tight. >> it's important to realize that every vote matters, and to just relax and i believe that we're going to still prevail in the end. >> we're continuing to track that race. we'll bring results as new ones come in. new numbers. take a look at this, colorado has approved a proposition to allow terminally ill people to end their own lives. we're now the 6th state

of assisted death called proposition 66. jaime leary has a closer look on this one. jaime, this put into question people's morals and ethics. >>reporter: this was a controversial one across the nation for many people having the option of physician assisted suicide. it's tough to accept. this was a really emotionally charged ballot initiative. one of the initiative and here in colorado, it passed with pretty much an overwhelming majority and numbers were 65% of voter who said yes to the proposition while 35 were against it. they say it brings relieve to those struggling with a terminal illness to end suffering. the maedz you are specifically allows terminally ill patients to take life ending doctor sleepy medication and it

to determine the patient is terminally ill and they must have six months to leave and being mentally competent to -- they have to self administer the drug. compassion and choice the main advocates behind this group examine they talk about what's next now that voters have spoken. >> it's up to the health care providers in colorado to make it acss them to complete their request, complete will requirements and achieve the kind of peace of mind that the bill is intended to give. >> colorado joins knives other states with similar laws. live from the capital, jaime leary, cbs4 morning news. we had a lot of decisions to make in colorado. here's a look at the other propositions --

presidential primarily and it passed 65% voting yes. 36% saying no. proposition 108 which would allow unaffiliated voters to vote in a primary, opening up our primaries also passed last night. at least at this point it's ahead with 82% with the precincts in. not a done deal. i should correct myself. certainly well ahead with votes to be counted. you can find -- 37 degrees in denver. copter four gave us a view of voters last night. people waited in long lines to cast ballots and we'll look at what

this morning, the nation wakes up to a new president elect. donald trump is going to be the 45th president of the united states. the election calls about 1:00 this morning. here's some of what he told his supporters. >> ours was but rather an incredible and great movement made up of millions of hard working men and women who love their country and want a better brighter future for themselves and their family. >> trump thanked his campaign workers and his campaign manager kelly ann conway write ongoing twitter that rally crowds matter and we expanded the map. she'll

following our news at 7:00 a.m. the world is reacting to the united states presidential election. here's riley carson in london with reaction to this earth shattering outcome. [chanting] >>reporter: in the uk, they're calling it a shock. another surprise shock following europe to leave the union. >> i saw it as a warning that something like this can happen. >> late editions of uk newspapers flew off the presses with news of trump surge. >> every step of this election has been watched all around the world, and american voters here in london say this is a finale they couldn't miss. >> it's big news, big league. >> for many clinton supporters at this party in london, early excitement, lessened as the

markets around the globe plummeted after trump won state after state. trump souvenirs are already being sold. riley carson, cbs news, london. germany minister called trump's victory a huge shock. french far right leader pin sent a tweet congratulating him and those used the mail those who voted in person was met with long lines after lines were shout down. >> ours wasn't a campaign, but an incredible and great movement made up of millions. >> that was apart of trump's acceptance speech. near parker road and florida and arapahoe county where people were trying to vote there, people had to wait three hours. the lines

reasons for waiting until the final day to vote. some say they didn't receive mail ballots and others prefer going to a polling place and a door was closed at 7:00 as a request was denied by a judge to extend the polls. debra was the last person in line for voting. she said it went quickly. >> it was fun, you know. to people and just we're joking and time went a little faster. as i said two hours instead of three, so yeah. so it was fun. >> she's in good spirits about it. she got to keep her sign, that was cool. it indicated she was the final voter and no one was allowed to line up behind her. rick told me democrats were handing out pizza to people waiting in line. let's turn to weather with ashton. what's up? >> the temperatures are going to be up today.

within probably four or 5-degree of the record high temperature for this date. right now, it's chilly outside. so make sure you're prepared for that as you step outside. 39 right now. sun up at 6:38 this morning . most locations along the front range are in the 30s. a few spots in the 40s like boulder at 41. mountain town was waking up with temperature in the 20s. look at this map for later today, this does not look like something in november. we're going to see upper 60s, close to 70s on the corridor from cheyenne in fort collins all the way down to the palmer divide. once you get south of the divide, cooler. colorado springs 65. mountain towns in the 50s and lower 60s later on. crystal clear skies this morning. just like yesterday, we'll see wall-to-wall sunshine. activity weather far to the east of us, rain in texas and along the east coast, rain today because of this front right here. the front that was over our state over the weekend. high pressure

that's why today is going to be so warm. that's why we'll soar into the 70s. as we go into tomorrow, a front will go by. it will be breezy tomorrow and on friday, veteran's day, it will be cooler. we'll be down near the 50s which is normal for this time of year. oops, i guess i got to get the pin off there. election day is over. veteran's day is friday, so we'll slide that over to friday as well. i'm going to get that taken care with joel on your traffic. >> if we have to vote on the 5-day forecast, i would say the yay! -- >> we're seeing a few more cars near 84th avenue from thornton. here we are across the denver-metro year, a similar situation with the late night -- we're going to have a late start. c-470 running slow due

get that sound to you in a moment. an officer is expected to recover after he was shot. the suspect that shot him was shot and killed by police. lauren dispirito tells us this spans two cities. >>reporter: the injured hospital was taken to the university of colorado hospital and he's surrounded by hospital. >> 14, 5 -- h >> shots fired >> two people are dead and a police officer is hurt after shooting that spanned two metro area communities. it started tuesday morning in aurora. police responded to a shooting at an apartment on del mar circle and one man was shot ask killed. >> there's too much hate among people and i'm tired of seeing hate, just this is ridiculous. >> police got world the shooting suspect fled to a home on east

there, police say the suspect confronted officers and they exchanged gunfire. >> there's another shooting. >> an officer is hit. >> officer is down. >> one aurora police officer was shot suffering non life-threatening injuries. a denver police officer shot the suspect who died on the scene. a friend said that man had two young children. >> it hit me hard, you know. it's sad, he's a great father. i can't just imagine how his kids would feel. >> police tells us the officer
