concession speech. this is the music noon. thank you for joining us. republican donald trump gave his victory speech in the early hours of the morning once it became clear clinton could not win enough electoral college votes. while trump one through the electoral college, clinton leads in the popular vote. clinton urged her supporters to accept the outcome. weijia jiang reports from new york city. r hotel, hillary clinton addressed her supporters for the first time since donald trump defeated her to become the nation's 45th president. >> i know how disappointed you feel because i feel it to. >> reporter: early tuesday morning, trump thanked clinton for a hard-fought campaign during his victory speech. >> we owe her a major debt of gratitude for her service to our country. >> [ applause ] >> i mean nat berhe sincerely. >> reporter: trump aides say

him today at trump tower. they are expected to talk about filling cabinet posts. clinton phoned come to congratulate him on his victory. trump won 29 states including close races in wisconsin, pennsylvania, and north carolina. >> we have seen that our nation is more deeply divided than we thought. but i still believe in america and i always will. >> reporter: trump promised to reach out to the more than 58 millioer vote for him. >> for those who have chosen not to support me in the past, of which there were a few people, i am reaching out to you for your guidance and your help so that we can work together and unify our great country. >> reporter: president obama invited donald trump to meet him at the white house to discuss transition plans tomorrow.>> we're not democrats first. we're not republicans first.

we are patriots first. we all want what is best for this country. that's what i heard to mr. trump's remarks last night. that is what i heard when i spoke to him. directly. and i was heartened by that. that is what the country needs. >> reporter: weijia jiang, cbs news new york. >> we also heard from speaker of morning. he had -- he and the president- elect had a rocky relationship during the election but he says they will work together moving forward. he called the victory an enormous political feet saying trump heard voices other people weren't hearing. americans gather that watch parties to see the results come in for the election. world leaders were quick to congratulate the president- elect.

protest. a denver principal tells us they held an assembly to talk about elections and some student's fear of deportation. rick sallinger is speaking with some of them later today. in colorado, our incumbents kept their seats. democrat michael bennett the republican challenger darryl glenn 52 to 48%. still, a much tighter race and many expected. last night. >> i want to thank all of you who are here tonight for your door knocks, your canvassing, your phone calls that secured our victory. we took care of business in colorado tonight. thanks to all of you. thanks to all of you. >> and republican congressman mike coffman retains his seat in the sixth district after being morgan carroll 55 to 45% despite the democratic support.

a state run medical insurance program. the minimum wage will increase. the bill to increase the taxes on cigarettes and other tobacco products failed but boulder did pass a tax on sugary drinks that puts an excise tax of two cents per ounce on each of those drinks. find more election results from around the state on www.cbsdenver.com. accused of robbing a key by -- a keybank on south colorado boulevard monday. the suspects are considered armed and dangerous, about 6 feet tall, last seen wearing hoodies and pink gloves. they left in a gold dodge intrepid. there is a $2000 reward for information in the case. police hope somebody will recognize this man. a 14-year-old girl says he grabbed her near eighth street

he has about -- he is about 6 feet tall and has acne scars. a former hospital worker is accused of stealing drugs from patients and is before a judge. attorneys are trying to get her out of jail. >> reporter: that is correct. her attorneys are fighting to release her on her own recognizance or a lower bond but technically she has no criminal history and that's y the hearing is still going on. no criminal history but we also learned she was fired from at least four hospitals where she previously worked in oklahoma under suspicion that she was stealing syringes and replacing or diluting what was inside of those files. so far the university of colorado is the only hospital to receive a full confession from the woman who worked in the hospital dialysis unit.

14 vials and she either replaced or diluted them with saline water or benadryl. she also stole the benadryl, which she says increased the high. she was also diagnosed with hepatitis c and says she never used needles she replaced from any of her patients but she knew up at least one case where another nurse grabbed a diluted file and used it on her patient. as a result, all on notification. the university of colorado hospital tested 30 patients for hepatitis c. all results came back negative. bond will be set today as well as a date for trial. the case could be resolved before it reaches trial but that's the goal for today. she faces up to 10 years in prison and a 3 1/2 million dollar fine. live in denver, jamie leary cbs

new details about a shooting involving an aurora police officer. the officer is still in the hospital but stable. we know the officer was shot in the face. to other people are dead. it started with a separate shooting in aurora on delmar circle. the suspect then went to a home in northeast denver where the suspect and police exchanged gunfire. two over officers fired their weapons but a police officer killed that suspect. another shooting last night near 47th and clayton. we know one person died and another is in critical condition. police say they haven't rested -- arrested anyone. we have a fire near franktown. firefighters quickly responded and with all the concerns about dry weather, that does continue into today. are meteorologist is in the

we want to show you this new video of two massive fires in our nation. this one is a plastic plant in lodi, california. nearby stockton firefighters had to come help. people have been warned to stay away from and a massive fire at a steel plant in buffalo new york. that can be seen for miles from the bethlehem plant. witnesses heard explosions before the roof collapsed. so far, no word on a cause. back here in denver, it has been beautiful. >> but what we don't want to see this fire. tomorrow, the wind is going to pick up and compound the problem but it is nice.

this late in the year. we're looking live from our camera on i-70. look at that beautiful shot. there is not a cloud in the sky but there should be more snow on the peaks of the back range. temperatures around the area are in the 60s. we're flirting with 70 degrees in many spots. inwood village and aurora both at 69 degrees this midday. westminster at 66 degrees. 66 degrees in thornton. 68 degrees in littleton and 40s and 50s already mountains. everybody else is pretty much in the upper 50s or 60s at this point. it will be an unusually warm afternoon for everyone including the metro. 72 degrees for the high temperature. the record today 76 degrees set back almost 90 years ago. doppler 4000 not showing anything. this is actually working. you can see cloud cover in texas. down in the deep south, the east coast dealing with rain.

region. that's white will be so warm this afternoon. tomorrow, the front moves into utah and nevada. that will allow a cold front to come in from the northwest. it will be breezy as that front goes by and for veterans day on friday, it will be noticeably cooler as the cool air behind the front settles and. we're not talking anything dramatic but compared to how warm it has been recently, you will notice the change. unfortunately, the 50s does not bring rain or sn a week from now, november 16, a week away, we are still dry but that night into the following day, some of moisture comes through. some rain and snow. this is not going to be a lot but it's something and that's more than we have had recently. it is a week away. between now and then, sunny and dry. 72 degrees this afternoon. tomorrow 67 degrees followed by 57 degrees for veterans day. for the weekend, sunshine and
