and two men were hit. one died from his injuries. the other is in the hospital in critical condition. witnesses flagged down police who were in this area and told them that two people had hospitalled on an rtd bus and police were able again to stop that bus, and take those two people into custody. now, police can't say what started this fight or if any of those involved actually knew each other. we will have much more on is 10:00. for now, we are live in denver, karen morfitt, cbs4 news. >> thanks karen. we also have new video for you of a high speed chase that had one of the suspects throwing car parts at deputies. speeds got close to 100 miles an hour. that chase started along i-76 in morgan county. kelly werthmann is live with the video you will see only on

small objects, trash coming at us as we drive down the interstate. well imagine having heavier objects like this floor jack barreling down in front of you on the interstate. that is what happened to deputies narrowly missing them as they were chasing dangerous suspects. >> during this, some of the items went over the top of the cars. >> reporter: dash cam videos from morgan county patrol cars shows the high speed chase. >> the passenger has broke the back window of the pickup, crawled into the top. and is now starting to throw objects. >> reporter: reaching speeds upwards 100 miles an hour, this stolen truck races down i-76 as tools and stolen car parts come flying down the road. >> whatever was in the back of that pickup came out. this is 67-pound floor jack that just went by. >> reporter: morgan county sheriff jim crone says though it is not unusual for suspects

being chased, this case was out of the ordinary. >> this is one of the first chases we have ever had where people were deliberately tossing item at the patrol car trying to get them to go away. >> reporter: despite passing dozens of other cars on the pursuit, no one was hurt. patrol cars were damaged though. and the driver and passenger eventually captured have been charged on several counts including attempted murder. >> you run om going to go away. >> and those truck parts that were thrown out of the window were actually from another stolen truck belonging to a veteran's organization. cbs4's jeff todd broke that story for us exclusively on cbs4 last week. and you can learn more about it by visiting cbsdenver.com. we are live in denver, kelly werthmann, cbs4 news. a double shooting that sent an aurora police officer to the hospital.

morning in aurora on delmar circle. the shooter killed one man there. police found him later in a home in northeast denver where he shot at them while a babysat in his car. >> the direction of fire was specifically at him. and, they knew that if they were offline with their fire, that it could go into the vehicle. >> the baby is okay, police killed the gunman. the wounded aurora cop was hit in the face. there you see the woun much worse had the bull it hit one inch higher. someone vandalizes the trump campaign office in denver. someone spray painted no on the windows and walls of the building. it was vandalized last friday as well with profanity spray painted on the walls. someone threw a rock through a twin doe. one arrest was made for the walk throwing. new at 6:00 tonight -- 6:30 tonight, boulder becomes the

city residented voted to impose a two cents per ounce track on sugary drink. >> it applies to any drink with more than 5 grams of sugar in 12 ounces. >> reporter: but with 12 grams of sugar, dunn says he will soon pull his bottles off the shelves of stores. it is unclear how the tax will be put into action. >> is it a tax on the distributor who sends it down the change of commerce? >> reporter: healthy boulder kids, the grass roots coalition behind the tax, considers the win a major victory for the community. big soda pulled out all of the stops in its effort to prevent the tax from being passed. but boulder stood up for our kids. we understand the health threats posed by unhealthy sugary drinks. now, while the law does not go into effect until july 1, a lot

>> reporter: snow cats finally pushing around enough manmade snow for loveland to open tomorrow morning. >> our workers are hard at work today. some of them are working around the clock to get those final jobs completed. >> reporter: loveland along with all of the other usual early season openers, except for arapahoe basin, have been struggling to make snow in near record breaking heat. >> we are going to have a top to bottom run. a thousand vertical feet. >> reporter: while some snow here acopper mountain, there's just not enough of them to get open. they have delayed opening until november 18. it is a problem that a lot of these mountain resorts are dealing with. mother nature is just not cooperating. >> pushing our opening day back. it is difficult, obviously, we are all ready to get out there and ski and snow board. to make sure we kick the season off right, we decided to move it back a week. and hope mother nature kicks in
