they tell us two men who were outside of the nightclub were robbed at gunpoint. one of them seriously injured with a gunshot wound taken to the hospital in critical condition. we know that he is stable. the other man, the other victim in that robbery, okay. but the suspect able to get away with that car and of course at this time we know that police were trying to catch up with that suspect after that robbery happened here. live in denver, shawn chitness, cbs4 morning news. >> shawn, thank you very much. policese car across county lines, even for a short time on southbound i-25. let's go to jamie leary, she picks it up in arapahoe county now live in a neighborhood near arapahoe road and glencoe in centennial. what's happening there? >> reporter: these are called the villas at holly. this is where that pursuit ended at one point. officers lost sight of the vehicle they were chasing, a red camaro. this is where it ended up, this is where they found the car ditched.

look at the scene. it was moments ago we saw a bullet ridden red camaro being towed away. that suspect ditched the car. they're in this area. they did initially give us a suspect description but asked us not to release it because they have to confirm it. we believe they know who this american is. i was also told by denver police who are leading this investigation with the help of arapahoe county sheriff's office that they need to talk to the person in it could be a while before they're able to question that person to find out exactly what happened. we do know that red camaro had a lot of bullet holes in the side of it. we don't know if the suspect is injured. but denver police said considering the situation and what happened in denver where you joust saw our shawn chitness, this person should be considered armed and dangerous. we definitely want to work on getting a suspect description as soon as possible. the good news is, they do know who this person is, so

before they find this person and take him into custody. we do know it's a male. they're not saying much more. still a large scene behind me. they did at one point have holly closed. that has been cleared and towed that suspect vehicle. denver police and arapahoe county sheriff's office are still on scene. i ran into them earlier. they had guns drawn and assistance from dog teams. still a scene and we're going to continue to ask questions. live in centennial, jamie jamie, thanks a lot. several cities had protestors on the streets last night, including los angeles. a lot of people got onto the freeway and blocked traffic. the protest started downtown, then moved to the 101. l.a. police and california highway patrol tried to get things under control. [ chanting ] >> in san diego, violence erupted in the gas lamp district as protestors clashed with each other and with police.

trouble. more than a thousand protestors shut down market street as they marched from the financial district into the mission district. emotions ran high. many looked to vent their frustrations. cleave jones is a gay rights activist who worked with harvey milk in the '70s. >> it doesn't matter how old you are, what color you are, what gender you are, what gender you love, all of us are threatened by this and we need to come together and respect ea passing of candles and singing of songs. the nation's capital now, people gathered outside trump's future home at 1600 pennsylvania avenue. some waved signs, others lit candles. a larger group protested outside trump's washington hotel and they were kept at a distance behind a barrier. >> you are ordered to leave the roadway and utilize the available sidewalks.

in on a street when they refused to move, police ended up arresting one after the other. today president-elect trump and his wife will travel to the white house, they will meet with president obama and the first lady. our hena daniels reports outside the trump tower. >> they're protesting democracy. democracy was at work. democracy is what played out. >> reporter: businesses in new orleans were damaged, fireworks set off in oakland, and york -- >> you are unlawfully in the roadway. >> reporter: police arrested several protestors blocking traffic along various trump properties. hundreds of protestors lined the streets of 5th avenue across the street from trump tower. this, as president-elect trump prepares for his meeting with president obama at the white house later today. >> we moved in ways that some people think is forward and others think is moving back. and that's okay.

dry conditions. sun will be up shortly after 6:30. more on your weather straight ahead, now let's check in with joel hillan for the latest on the commute. good morning. we're learning the southbound i- 25 hov lanes will be late to open this morning. we've been watching from the cdot camera. you can see they have cones up, flashing lights as well. we're going to keep an eye on that. for now light volume southbound coming into town. not causing delays or lot of green on the map. i want to mention where jamie leary was, it's near arapahoe and glencoe at the apartments in that area, you've got holly street which is nearby. you can access across to arapahoe road at holly. you just can't do so at glencoe. that will affect traffic if you're waking up in the apartment complex or nearby

we have new details in this high speed chase. men in this truck threw dozens of items on the interstate and they face charges for trying to kill deputies. jeff todd has an update on special boots tied to the case. >> reporter: this case involves two stolen cars from the denver metro area. when the chase heated up, the suspects started throwing things out of the car from giant car parts all the way down to small soda are trained in high speed chases but never seen anything like that. >> if you run from us, we're not going away. >> reporter: deputies caught up with this truck on i-76. you can see the passenger hanging out of the truck as it speeds down the highway at 100 miles per hour. eventually, things got more dangerous. >> the passenger has broke out the back window of the pickup, crawled into the topper and is

this is 67-pound floor jack. >> reporter: a total of 50 items were thrown out over a nearly 40-mile stretch of road. >> we didn't recover all the items that were threaten out. -- thrown out. >> reporter: the two men are being held for several accounts of attempted murder for the officers and other drivers on the road. >> there's a bumper off another stolen vehicle, with stolen license plates on it. >> reporter: that stolen vehicle is this truck. it was full of items for 66. >> we had boots in the truck that came from the actual military personnel that were killed in iraq or afghanistan that the family had donated to us and those are priceless. >> reporter: the truck owner told us she thinks her car is totaled because many of its parts were thrown at deputies. we've got good news about the boots that we told you about. it's believed a majority of

but it's still being held as evidence and it may be a few more weeks before it's returned to its rightful owner. jeff todd. news out of western pennsylvania, two police officers are slot and we -- shot and we understand one is dead. police say it happened around 4:00 this morning, 20 miles southwest of pittsburgh. officers were working a domestic violence situation when sh the officers' identities now. this morning loveland ski area opens. the workers had snow cats pushing around man made snow yesterday. not much real stuff here. loveland usually one of the first to open every year. this time workers are struggling to keep the snow from going away because of record-breaking heat. but loveland will be ready. >> we're going to have a top to bottom run, thousand vertical

this is the news in our health watch. a study may have solved a mystery about premature births. researchers may have pinpointed one reason why mothers give birth prematurely. a study from nationwide children's hospital found calcium gosses in feet -- deposits in fetal membranes may break before the fetus is fully developed. too much time on rest. researchers in san francisco tracked hundreds of smartphone users over a month. the average screen time was 3.7 minutes per hour. longer times were associated with poor sleep quality and less sleep overall, especially when phones were used near bedtime. a new study finds adults who regularly drink sugary beverages have a 46% higher

50s. top of the lift, 40s. under full sunshine, yeah, if you're going to head up there, best to get up there as early in the day as you can. 60s on the western slope today. 60s and 70s for the eastern plains. not a cloud in the sky across colorado. we'll enjoy sunshine state-wide today. weather maker in texas. rest of the country dry today. weak cold front is in montana, drops south through wyoming today and will pass over colorado tonight and nothing drastic. still, highs in the 50. and after reaching 74 yesterday, you'll notice the difference. 15 to 20-degree cooldown from yesterday to where we'll be tomorrow. but no moisture, that front will not bring rain or snow. hope the end of next week things will change. next wednesday we're dry. between now and next wednesday completely dry. the 17th, next thursday, where you see the green we'll have a chance of rain or snow.

using holly. joel, thank you. we have breaking news to bring you this morning out of western pennsylvania. one officer is shot and another shot and wounded. one of the officers we understand is killed. now the search for a suspect is happening. police say it happened around 4:00 this morning in the town of canonsburg, 20 miles southwest of pittsburgh. officers were working a domestic violence situation when police say ambushed by gunfire. nearby schools are on a delay this morning. police in seattle are saying the shooting of five people near an anti-trump protest last night isn't related. it happened around 6:45 near 3rd and pine. investigators say an argument took place outside a 7-eleven and quickly escalated. it is believed the shooter walked away from a group of people, turned around and fired into the crowd. he got away.

nearby. some of the victims were innocent bystanders. all people taken to hospitals. some tourists had a wild ride when horses got spooked. it happened yesterday in vancouver and was caught on camera. when someone honked a horn, the horses took off over a curb and headed towards the water. as they were running away, tourists began to jump off this trolley. you see a family of four make park police were able to safely stop the horses, but a little bit of a frightening situation there. >> wow. 45 degrees this morning in denver. >> a lot coming up at 6:00. here's what's still ahead. breaking news, that spanned several counties in the metro area. shawn. >> reporter: outside this nightclub in denver, two men are robbed at gunpoint and one of them goes to the hospital with serious injuries. i'll have the latest in a live report.

jamie leary is live where police have found the stolen car near an apartment complex in centennial. shawn chitness is where the robbery and shooting happened in denver located at sheridan and mississippi. let's start with shawn this morning. >> reporter: britt, good morning. denver police were spending some time outside of this nightclub collecting evidence and of course keeping this area secure as they started their investigation. they were able to clear the area a couple of that, though. we understand this started before 2:00 a.m. where two men were robbed at gunpoint outside of the nightclub. one of them with serious injuries, taken to the hospital in critical condition, later told by police that that victim is stable. the other man, the other victim, not injured in that shooting. but the suspect was able to get away with the car. unclear if these three men met inside, if they were confronted
