,, a massive water main break shuts down a busy denver street during rush hour this morning and repairs are still underwear six hours later. this is the news. i'm britt moreno. that break happened just after 6:00 this morning on 6th avenue between grant and logan. it's causing problems for businesses. our jamie leary has been on the

reported and joins us live. jamie, what is the latest on the repairs? >> reporter: britt, i want to show you something now. despite the nuisance, it's a pretty interesting piece of history. this is the original 16-inch pipe that was installed in 1890. it's extremely old. we have a closure obviously because there's a lot of work to do. 6th is still closed ee while denver water works to repair the broken main and that nearly 130-year-old pipe, it's amazing it's lasted this long. it took some serious work to actually access this break. just after 6:00 this morning water started spilling out onto 6th street, creating quite the

hydroplane. once denver water shut the water off they got to work to access this historic pipe. as a result hundreds were left without water. pablo's coffee shop closed its doors because of the mess. not exactly an ideal situation. >> of course we need water to make coffee here, and we had to let all of our loyal customers and friends who come here know that we couldn't prepare their morning. hopefully the water will come back on. eight hours was the estimate from 7:00 this morning. >> the pipe is from the 1890s. are you surprised by that? >> that's a good pipe, yeah. all right. >> reporter: that is a good pipe. what you're looking at is the original cast iron pipe from the 1890s. they're still going to repair it and hope it holds.

broken. it's probably going to mean more incidents like this to come. the crews say they have at least six more hours to go, but by tonight the water will be back on. >> amazing piece of history, jamie. thank you for that report. new details about how much damage an early morning fire caused. it is estimated it caused in lakewood. it started in the garage on vassar way. it spread into the room above. firefighters say oily rags in a trash can come busted started that blaze. our temperatures have dipped a little bit today, but for how long is the question? meteorologist dave aguilera is in colorado's weather center with more on what we can look forward to this friday.

only last one day. temperatures even with the cooldown are still above normal for this time of year. mostly 50s on the weather map. westminster at 55. in highlands ranch we have 56 degrees now. as far as cloud cover goes, there's not much of that. a little bit of cloudiness into southern colorado and into the northeast. but that's it. quite a bit in the way of sunshine going on. cold front is sitting over southern colorado into oklahoma and shooting that's a one-day deal. as we get into tomorrow and the weekend, high pressure starts to move back and on the weather map there's a little low pressure area up here up the coast of california. that will ride that high and probably go into the northern rockies and canada over the course of the weekend. no moisture from that guy either. if you have outdoor plans you're probably going to stay dry this weekend. we'll look at the fiveday4cast and see if there's anything in the next few days.

honoring its veterans. president obama laid the wreath at the tomb of the unknowns for the final time of his presidency. he noted that veterans day often falls after election, saying we should look to our veterans and military as examples. >> example of a military that meets every mission, one united team, all getting each others' backs. >> the president said the military serves as the most diverse organization of our country. president-elect donald trump has no public events today, but there have been a stream of visitors to trump tower as he works on his cabinet. that work comes as protests

white house. >> reporter: donald trump tweeted he has a busy day planned today, working on his administrative plans inside trump tower. across the country police were busy through the night as anti- trump demonstrators held disruptive protests. at least two dozen people were arrested in portland. they declared the protests there a riot. after initially blaming the protestors incited by the media, trump credited them this morning for having passion for our country. trump's transition team will be relocating from trump tower to washington. yesterday trump made his first visit to the white house before meeting with congressional republicans. analysts expect house speaker paul ryan and majority leader mitch mcconnell to move quickly on long stalled republican policies. >> when donald trump says we're

paul ryan has been slaving away producing tax reform ideas that were never going anywhere. now he's thinking, trump could sign this into law. >> reporter: trump's former opponent, hillary clinton, was spotted by a supporter hiking near her new york home. the woman said taking her young daughter to vote for her was one of her proudest moments as a mother. protestors blocked roads at 6th and 23rd for a night here in denver. those protests started at the state capitol. they moved to the 16th street mall. police kept them from blocking traffic there. but some of them eventually ended up on the interstate. our stan bush talked with those involved in that demonstration. >> what are you hoping to achieve today by doing this? >> just let people know we're in this together. he was not elected by the majority of people. he was not wanted by the majority of people.

police did not make any arrests. among those visiting trump tower, a "60 minutes" crew. lesley stahl gets the first interview with the president- elect. she tweeted out this picture just within the hour. that interview will air sunday at 6:00 right here on cbs4. a man led law enforcement officers on a chase that covered 11 miles in colorado springs. the highway patrol started the chase where a man was apparently yelling and honking dangerously. the chase ended up on highway 24y colorado springs officers joined them. at one point shots were fired, but it's not clear who fired them. the suspect used his truck to shove the police cruiser into a tree. officers finally used their cars to stop the man damaging both cruisers. the man was arrested and taken to the hospital. prosecutors say a man in evergreen will unlikely go to

a colorado landmark has a new owner and is getting a face lift. our matt kroschel talked with the new homeowners. >> reporter: if these walls could talk, the stories they would tell. >> guests at 1903 include people like teddy roosevelt, dj rockefeller senior and junior. >> about six weeks ago sale and we thought that would be interesting, let's see what it's about. here we are owning it. >> reporter: it was originally built in 189 for john osgood. it's an icon. from the furniture to the art on the walls, most everything is original. >> i think we would like to do six, possibly eight larger bed and breakfast type rooms.

it is a nice afternoon. we have clouds hanging over the area just mid-and high level cloudiness. we're at 54 degrees in the city. 58 already at dia. it's a cooler day today. our wind is out of the east- southeast at 10. humidity at 35. high pressure, but it is falling at the moment. cooler day, but still way above normal for this time of year. weather watcher check bryan in wellington has 51. northwest of brush, diane has 53. little bit of moisture pulling the cool air into southern colorado and northeast. but it's high and mid-level cloudiness. clear on the western slope as high pressure still is bringing in a westerly wind in that location. here's the big map and what you really notice is if you look at

pressure, bubbling up into canada, a high pressure ridge still in place. a storm off the coast of california that will ride that ridge and move up into canada, the northern oklahoma over the weekend. this double barreled high, if you will, over the nation's midsection stays locked in gear through saturday and sunday. for today we're looking at a few passing clouds and that will be about it. same thing tomorrow, mostly clear skies. maybe a couple of afternoon clouds building up and it. high and dry again. 50s in the mountains and 50s and 60s across the eastern plains today. in denver i've upped it a little bit. a little bit warmer than we were anticipating. about 60 this afternoon in the sunshine. 34 tonight. a chilly night. then 67 tomorrow. 66 on sunday. and then we gradually inch back up, take a look at tuesday, a high of 74 and 78 degrees. in the extended charts there
