>> developing now at 10:00, a search for a dangerous group of men believed to be behind a violent crime spree. lauren dispirito is live in colorado springs tonight. lauren, it is possible some of those suspects have been caught. >> reporter: there are two men that were found tonight. police had been staging their search here. and, they believe those two men are part of this violent spree. but they are still looking for two men. victims, innocent men, were left tied up with duct tape. it started early friday morning when police responded to a home invasion. two men tell our partners at kktv a group of men forced them at gunpoint into their home. demanding car keys and stealing cash. it was only when one of them told suspects his mother was sleeping inside that the group showed mercy. still, leaving them in their garage with their hands bound,

>> they are considered incredibly dangerous and they are armed. >> reporter: according to kktv, the suspects then turned up at a gun shop but quickly fled. it is after that stop that police spotted one of the stolen vehicles and start to pursue it. the suspects fired at officers. none were hit and police lost sight of the suspects. they later recovered both stolen vehicles. >> these folks were calculated and they were very di their contact. >> reporter: we know they did use k-9s in their search tonight. still unable to find two of the men they were looking for. no one was hurt. live in colorado springs, lauren dispirito, cbs4 news. and happening now, the anti- trump protest growing more intense in some cities. in miami, the crowd stormed busy i-95 closing that highway. you recall, we saw a similar

night. now to atlanta where protesters closed a street and started a bonfire. police blocked the group and are trying to push them back. the protests were much smaller and younger in denver today. high school students staged a walkout, walked up and down federal. they are too young to vote, but want their voices heard. meanwhile, the president-elect appears ready to compromise on one of his big campaign promises. in his first tv tells 60 minutes he wants to keep parts of obama care. >> let me ask you about obama care. what you say, you are going to repeal. and replace. when you replace it, are you going to make sure that people with preexisting conditions are still covered? >> yes, because it happens to be one of the strongest assets. also, with the children living with their parents for an extended period. >> you are keeping that? >> we are very much going to try to keep that. it adds dust, but it is

she is very strong. and very smart. >> trump says he also took a call from bill clinton the next day. you can hear how that conversation went during the full interview on 60 minutes this sunday, here on cbs4. we do have breaking news in north denver. multiple people have been shot and police are looking for the gunman. stan bush is on the scene near mlk and filmore. stan? >> reporter: that's right. we are at the intersection of 31st and filmore. scene. we do understand at least two people have been taken in an ambulance from this area. but, police are still looking for the suspect. you can see at least a half dozen cop cars here. this area is shut down for a block. and we understand that the shooting happened almost a block from our location. all the way down by that stop sign. right now, denver police have not made any arrests and they are still trying to get information on the suspect that was involved in this shooting. and we have seen officers going

neighborhood trying to speak with anyone who might have been a witness or heard this shooting to try to get any information. in fact, you can see and hear some of the officers right now going from door to door trying to find any information. so, we are still waiting for an update from denver police on who might have been involved and how many people were involved. but when we have that information, we will give it to you. for now, we are live. back to you. >> thank you stan. a penny for your thoughts. how about a penny for your mi colorado drivers by the mile. it is is a controversial proposal. andrea flores spoke with cdot. what kind of money are we talking about for drivers? >> reporter: well, karen, we did some math and the proposed pay by a mile tax for this fuel efficient car would be 42 cents more than this suv compared to what drivers are paying right now. but cdot says this proposal could help level the playing field between all vehicles. a new cdot research study could

around. >> a primary way we pay for our roads is through a gas tax. that gas tax is dying for a number of reasons and it is not keeping up with all of our growth. >> reporter: reports show colorado's current 40-cent gas tax isn't keeping up with the times. >> gas tax has been something that served us well the last 100 years but the reality is, technology in vehicles, that is changing. >> reporter: as an alternative, cdot is working on a pilot that would charge drivers a penny a mile. >> we pay travel on the road. >> reporter: with an $800 million a year gunning gap, cdot says fuel efficient vehicles are doing little to help. >> they are driving on a road that has to be kept up. if we don't have the fund to do that right now, we will be in a significant challenge. >> reporter: the pilot will also look at differences between rural and urban drivers. >> rural drivers tend to drive long distances and take less

>> following the breaking news in denver, police telling us four people are wounded. at least two transported to the hospital after a shooting near 31st. i should say martin luther king and filmore. an active scene. officers going door to door. we will developments for you tomorrow morning. it is adding insult to injury. tonight, there are new developments in the case of a career college that suddenly closed down last month. this month, some heritage college students are reporting that refund checks they received from the school are now bouncing. rick sallinger has been following this story since it broke. he has the latest developments. >> reporter: when heritage college un expectedly shut its doors it did more than leave

her degree. she had received a check from heritage more than a thousand dollars she thought was due her. but she said the check bounced. >> i'm really upset of course. but i'm not the only one this has affected. it has affected many, many other students and it has affected teachers as well. they have checks that bounced. >> reporter: the notice on the door said it closed due to declining student enrollment. and less demand at for pr under, they should have let the students know. >> reporter: her attempts to get answers from the college have gotten her nowhere. so she went inside to the officers to see if anyone could help her. >> i want to know if my check bounced. >> reporter: the response she received was to check a website. the employee inside then threaten to call the police. dawn brown's hopes of starting her own aesthetic spa business now seems a dream much harder to realize. >> it is just going to take a a

reply to our request for a response. rick sallinger, cbs4 news. on this veteran's day, americans honor the men and women who served our country. now because of the renovation work at the cemetery, fort logan held its veteran's day ceremony at a vfw hall in englewood. there are 22 million living americans who have served our nation in uniform. meanwhile, some vets are concerned about access to the new va hospital in aurora. and veterans will be able to new r line light rail to get there. but as of now, the 300-yard walk from the rail stop to the hospital entrance is uncovered. and involves crossing busy potomac street. >> patients who the hospital was built for, patient who's are going to use the rtd corridor and we didn't provide a way for them to get into the hospital. >> he is pushing for the addition of a raised covered walk way.

million to the $1.6 billion it cost to build the hospital. happening now, the search for a man accused of starting at least 20 wild fires in north carolina around georgia. the fires have burned more than 25 square miles on national forestland. investigators say a man in a dark blue suv was seen where several of the fires started. extreme drought conditions are not helping. the latest in the case of a suspected serial killer in south carolina. there he is. and we ar todd kohlhepp's mother. her son is facing four counts of murder in connection with a quadruple homicide in 2003. he confessed to those crimes after police found this woman chained to a storage container on his property recently. three bodies were also found buried there. in an interview with cbs's 48 hours, kohlhepp's mother says her son is misunderstood. >> todd is not a monster.
