hi, everybody. welcome into the cbs4 morning news. beautiful ping tour for you of that enormous moon we had last night. this is the news, monday, november 14th. i'm alan gionet. >> i'm britt moreno. >> love that picture of the super moon this right here. this weekend, parts of colorado got a little bit of snow. your reporter laura sent us this picture. and jaime leary took this slow motion bid of flicks falling at a-basin. >> ashton is with us this morning as we talk about a week that could have big change.

>> jaime's analogy -- nothing that caused accumulation. at the end of this week, they'll be accumulated snow fall and the question is how much. we'll dive into that coming up. 35 degrees in jansey. another view of the super moon. our biggest and brightest moon in 68 years. temperatures in the mountains in the teens and 20s. 30s and 40s in wyoming. overall we're going to have more it's going to be another beautiful november for us. 9:00 a.m., 50. and a high temperature of 71. tomorrow we'll be warmer. we'll come close to a record tomorrow, but it's all the warm before the storm at the end of the week. we'll talk about what it means for all of us in colorado. but first let's check with joel. >> we have a couple of construction projects out there that will slow you down. flashing lights along i-25 and

several earthquakes rocked new zealand leaving 1 person dead. the man's 101 mother made it out alive. the state highway heavily damaged leaving some areas cut off. when the earthquake hit, those on south island said it was violent >> it blew us out and trying to get out. >> it was that violent? >> the past -- this kwakt triggered land slights and the roads are covered with dirt and rocks. we're learning about a brush fire in adams county that threatened homes. it started yesterday in the afternoon and it took crews nearly 3 hours to get it under control. this took place near 144th avenue and north of denver's airport. it did burn 300 acres and fire

stretch of dry pasture. it destroyed two pastures before the fight was brought under control in evening. some neighbors tells us they were worried about response time and one woman and her family tried to put it out herselves. >> with all the animals and live stock from the house and neighborhood tractors came down here and all these country folks put this fire out. >> that's amazing. people also say they heard the fire may have started after someone target practice with firearms under dry conditions and -- >> five people out of their home. no cause of the fire. this happened near the main reservoir. 40 firefighters battled to get those flame it's under control. the investigators say it started in a storage shed between two homes, but it's not clear what sparked it there. it's time to take a look at

continues without any measurable precipitation. last time we had rain was october 12th. we had 25 days now with above normal temperatures. today we'll make the 25th day. of course, it hasn't snowed in denver, and we're getting closer and closer to our latest first snow fall on record. the latest is november 21st in 1994. that's next monday. we're going to have one opportunity to see snow in denver. if it were to happen it's going to be at the end of the day, and we'll get into details in a moment. right now, clouds moving out of wyoming and trying to move into colorado. we're going to see a lot of sunshine today. we're warming the storm in the pacific northwest in oregon. that's not the storm system that will bring more seasonable wear. it's this system spinning towards alaska. there's a lot of questions on how this storm system is going

we're almost guaranteeing the mountain will see snow. denver should see rain and if it turns cold enough and quick enough before the moisture leaves, there's the opportunity for maybe our first snow fall in denver of the season. it won't be a big storm by any means, but it's possible. teens and 20s in the mountains. we have 20s, 30s and 40s on the eastern plains. later on today, upper 60s and lower 70s on the plains and 50s once again in the high country. so that storm is far from here yet. it's going to be a while. the next few days it's going be warm. after 71 today, we're going to come close to record territory with a high of 75. thursday joel, the system starts to impact the state, but for denver and the front range, any precipitation won't arrive until friday. 18 degrees, it's coming take a look at i-25 and central park boulevard. nice

coming up tonight on cbs4 news at 10:00. the music world is mourning the loss of leon russell. his voice spanned in gospel, blues and rock. he was inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame in 2011. ? [ music ] ? ? >> ? >> russell was born in oklahoma, 1942. russell had a heart operation over the summer and he's trying to recover from that. his website said he died in his sleep at the age of 74. consistency hasn't been a strength of the colorado avalanche this season.
