covered with rocks and dirt. >> we're learning more about a brush fire in adams county that briefly threatened homes weekend. it started yesterday in the afternoon, and it took crews nearly 3 hours to get it under control. it took place near 144th avenue and haze mountain road north of denver's airport and it did burn about 300 acres. fire crews says this was a long stretch of dry pasture. it destroyed two structures there before the fire was brought under evening. some neighbors tells us they were worried about response time and a woman and her family started to dry and put it out themselves. >> all the animal and live stock from the house -- and a bunch of neighborhood tractors came out and these country folks put this fire out. >> it's amazing. people said they heard the fire may have been started after should not was doing target practice with firearm in the dry conditions.

but another suspect confessed of that. the da's office says the man who confessed recanted. there has been calls from supporter to drop the case, but he has pursued retrial before he leaves office. how about paying for your parking ticket without using money. shawn chitnis is here t >>reporter: there is some hope if you meet the requirements and that will give you the chance to pay back that off by making a donation and helping out people in need. this is apart of a food drive for the hope of harvest pantry which does give food to people and to family in need around the boulder area. so here's how it works. there are some fines that are for parking spots around campus. those are the ones that's eligible everyday this week except for wednesday, you can

office in the afternoon with four non perishable food items and have your current fines waived. this is for tickets issued by november 1st. you can bring more food items if have you more than one ticket that needs to get paid off. they're looking for canned foods, pasta and soups and snack and granola bars. there's other restrictions that you want to keep in mind. and of course you can donate even have a parking ticket. they would like to take those items. check with the university's parking service to find out more details before bringing in those items. shawn chitnis, cbs4 morning news. the music world is mourning the loss of rock legend leon russell. his voice spanned in gospel and blue and rock.

good morning, everyone. this is the news in health. time outs are so in when it comes to disciplining children. a new study suggests more parents are using time out to help discipline kids rather than spanking. doctors in washington found the rate of punishment fell since the late 80s while time outs nearly doubled. excessive cell phone use may be contributing to a rise in depression among adolescents. in the journal of pediatrics says the number of growing number of adolescents highlights the need to better manage the disease. research at the cleveland --

some snow in mountains. moisture for denver in the front range, that's less certain. we'll get something around here. it's going to be cold rain, but thursday evening as the colder -- it's possible that that cold rain could briefly turn into a quick shot of snow. we're not going to see much for denver or snow in the front range. we'll see more in the mountains. 40s for denver in the front range currently. and then upper 60s, close to 70 for denver and the front range. 50 in the mountains at 55 in steamboat and 58 for gunnison. your forecast today, mostly sunny. high temperatures 71. tomorrow, 75 followed by 74 on wednesday. and then the storm arrives with 55 on thursday. a chance for some rain. it's far from guaranteed for all of us along the front range.

this is i-70 and kipling. you're out west and if you're making your way in the eastbound direction, it should be a great drive. that's across the denver-metro area. look at all this green. we're getting word of a pair of accidents as you get north of jefferson and walsworth. if you're making your way out to santa fe, it should be a great job. what about up into the high country. it could be b the road weather index is indicating with this white color. so along i-70 watch out for that as you make your way from ohio springs to the hooez eisenhower tunnel. pats fans looking for a late penalty call. brady hands it off to garrett.
