look what we have. haven't seen these in a while. storm warnings in the pink. winter weather advisories in the purple. some areas could get up to a foot of snow. but it will be gusty with the winds with two to four inches of the lower elevations but the 30 to 40 miles an hour winds are really going to pop things up around here. and blow that snow around. look at the temperatures we have now. mostly in the 60s in the cold air moves in. you can see just 20s , 30s , 40s , that is going to change our temperatures from 40 degrees colder than what we saw today. that is the way it will be the next couple of days. we have moisture headed into the area. partly cloudy skies in the eastern plains. off to the west, you see the snow forecast through thursday. you can see it moving in. a little more to the north. but yes, our mountains again with a foot of snow in some areas. temperatures are very warm now,

very dry, very windy around here. let's go to chris spears in the mobile weather lab. chris, that was a fire danger type of weather. >> reporter: absolutely, 20 miles an hour winds here right now. ed, out of the southwest. the burn scar, where several dozen acres burned today. right now, we have a front row view of the firefighters trying to put out the hot spots to this fire. this is happening right here right. but just a few days ago, i began as they start their wildland fire fighting career. >> the long piece. >> reporter: 90 miles southwest of denver, there is a spot where the firefighters learn how to fight the flames. >> i'm stepping up the games in the fire world. >> reporter: lawrence luciano came all the way from new york city. >> well, i'm here to get some of the good training as one of the number one schools in the

working. >> reporter: it is called colorado fire camp and after several days in the classroom, this group of students prepared for an unusual graduation. setting a half acre of prescribed wild fires. >> this is a time to be around fire an smoke and flames. >> reporter: as a meteorologist, i was a bit nervous watching an open flame put on the drought ri it. another way to look at it. it happen. it is another part of living here. >> reporter: this is a controlled burn. it gives these students a look at the fighting wild fire. >> it can be a quick little line around this. >> reporter: as the class worked to contain their small fire, less than 50 miles away, firefighter work to contain a major late season blaze that consumed 18,000-acre.

taillight. he admitted to the officer to having a gun which the officer ordered him not to reach for. his girlfriend was in the car and said he was complying reaching for his wallet. that is when he was shot. his girlfriend posted the aftermath of the shooting on facebook. we are learning more about a man who shot and killed a southwest employee in oklahoma city. the shooting shut down will rogers world airport several hours. police say lloyd buie used to work for he killed another southwest worker michael winchester in retaliation before killing himself. a group of people suing american airlines. boeing and general electorate after this plane fire in chicago last month. passengers say they were not given enough instruction for flight attendants when the plane blew a fire. they say not all the evacuation slides deployed and the one who did went out at an angle that

colder temperatures. let's go outside, take a look. no weather problems here. because we still have clear to partly cloudy skies over the city. tomorrow morning i think kind of a colder air. i don't think we see the moisture until the day goes on. we are much warmer than we were yesterday at this time. all this heat is gone off to the east. but look at the darker blue. colder temperatures. yes, they are all headed our way. we have a little moisture showing up in the mountains. stil here is a big glob of moisture coming our way. certainly cold air coming along with it. we have the warm front, we were under the influence of that with the record breaking temperatures across the state. here comes the cold weather and the snow. let's go to lauren whitney to tell us all about it. real storm on the way. >> reporter: it will be. it will be cold around here finally and we get moisture. we have had cold fronts roll through earlier, but they have

snow. it works its way through tomorrow and overnight. and we have a chance of snow in the high country. and behind this, we have the cold weather settling in for a while. starting tomorrow eight night and as we head toward the weekend. daytime temperatures will recover in the later part of the weekend. we have winter weather advisories. down in the plateaus on the western slope. four to 12 inches as we head toward the front as we head to the north western corner in moffett county. you are looking at about two to four inches but the winds are getting very strong. visibility could be tough and we have cold temperatures. central mountain areas, five to ten inches of snow with this. you add winds of 35 to 40 miles an hour, visibility could be tough in the high country lasting through tomorrow night. here to time it out, we will

>> yeah, great news for the mountains. here is why. you start to see the moisture moving into the mountains. yeah, pretty good snows up there. the winter weather alerts that we have right up along the front range. look at boulder county. larimer county. they will get snow. just a snow shower over denver. then tomorrowings maybe 6:00 in the evening you might see a snow shower on the way home. there is a little bit of snow. does not last long. the storm moves out quickly. we are back to sunny skies. here is friday night. clear skies across the state return. how much snow? to the north, maybe two, three inches as you look to the west. but right around the metro, all under an inch. remember, it melts as it hit it is ground because it has been so warm. 80 and 81 today. the warmest ever for this date. also ties the warmest ever in november and this late in season. 57 and 54 with a wild morning low. 67 and 66 right now with the

>> one person dies in a house fire in aurora beginning our reporter brief. >> reporter: i'm jennifer brice in aurora where this house fire ended with one person dying. four more people who live here we are told were taken to the hospit big by the time they arrived it spread to two neighboring homes. the red cross is now assisting while investigators try to determine the cause. i'm kelly werthmann in denver where today, the first ever police officer calendar was unveiled. the behind the badge project features officers and detectives with the denver police department. it was created by a group of officers' wives hoping to help the relationship between police and the community.
