as predicted, we have had a messy morning for travel in the high country. the snow coast and interstate and roads and we're glad tova you with us and mostly rain with areas of snow and or our jamie -- and our jamie leary has more but lauren whitney is in colorado right now. >> reporter: we had a wet morning in some areas. >> starting to clear across the denver areas and snow in parts of the st of the action is in the eastern plains and into the southeastern corner and zoom into the denver area. there are a few spotty showers out there and some may linger on the next hour or so, but we're going to see this move out for us quickly. and into the southeastern corner of the state, we have had heavy rainfall turning over to snow in some areas. the temperatures are not cold enough and some spots to have that move over to snow and heading into the north. fort morgan area getting snow at the moment and we have some near flagler as well.

temperatures have not gotten cold enough. and our ski resort in the western corner of the state got hit hard with this and purgatory over a foot. aspen snow mass, three inches of snow; copper a basin reporting two inches. if you have holiday ski plans in the forecast, it should be nice to hit the slopes and looking the the temperature change, 25 degrees cooler in denver than yesterday; 49, burlington; 26 degrees cooler into la junta and 28 for 13, aspen and leadville; 5 degrees cooler in grand junction. 38 degrees in denver; 43, boulder; anthrax, lamar. the high cupt -- 38, lamar; and the high country, warmer in denver and 48 in grand junction. throughout the rest of the day, you'll see skies clear here across the front range. this evening, we'll get chilly as temperatures start to drop when the skies start to clear. we're going to talk about thanksgiving in just a moment, allen. back to you now. >> and thank you. see you in a few moments. >> thing is what it looked like

a couple of inches of snow fell above 6500 feet finally really starting to look like november in colorado. our jamie leery is live in the 16th street mall. how are the conditions changing there, jamie? >> reporter: honestly, it feels as cold as it did earlier this morning, but conditions nothing like what we were dealing with earlier. look at this. they're over the eisenhower tunnel about 4:00 this morning and this it's doing this through the entire morning show through 7. still snowing when we left and then we hit the road and hit some ice. in additiond to the glare ice, we hit fog at glare lille. dense fog and visibility sometimes zero. very dangerous driving conditions for holiday travel. back here at the ice ring, conditions could be more -- ice rink, conditions could be more perfect. lots of smiling faces here.

tennessee and that driver is in custody and police believe he was driving too fast. >> reporter: a tow truck hauled away the wreckage of the school bus that flipped over o)[the side and wrapped around a tree killing one boy and four girls. >> three in the fourth grade. one in kindergarten. and g4one is in the first grade >> rt the bus told cbs news that the driver asked the students if they were ready to die. moments before the crash. >> my daughter said right before the bus flipped, that he was speeding around the curve. >> reporter: police arrested the bus driver, 24-year-old johnthany walker and charged him with five counts of vehicular homicide. ?shut the f up. , he??d4ltold

enforcement. the department stopped that practice and said it made the officers easy targets. people who claim c-dot is goinback on its word to build a sound wall along the expansion of c-470 are asking a judge to step in. i want to show you where. they're showing work here on two new express lanes. this is c-dot, c-470 here and they'll go to wadsworth and one will go to colorado boulevard and -- boulevard and there will be another lane coming i-25 but, the problem is that people living near the highway here in this area, and you have driven along c-470, right? you noticed between some of the area here, this is quebec on this side and over here, this is university, there are houses and they want a sound wall built all along this area here. and that was the plan of about but it's been dropped. tom muston has more w.

versus goliath scenario. you have the coalition going up against c-dot and just minutes ago, judge raymond moore said that he would have a written decision in the near future. lawyers on both sides have been arguing back and if other for three hours with no resolutions in sight. the projects moving forward with major constructions to begin in a few months. the 2 1/2-year project would add two express lanes on c-470 from douglas county to counteract the population explosion in that area and this is issue. the noise during the construction would cause an unacceptable environmental hardship. they conducted the noise in the area and found the levels acceptable. the coalition said they conducted their own test and found the numbers were higher and they want the noise barriers. they followed an in-- filed an injunction to block the major project until the noise issue is resolved. after today, both sides are feeling confident.

. we want to update you on a breaking news with the fresh image now that the hay fire continues to burn on the front am road by i-25. our kelly worthman recently drove by and sent us this picture. quite a fire that you can see there. it was a truck full of hay and it was in flames for awhile. the smoke still cause something visibility problems. the highway is open. now tonight on cbs 4 news at 5, the state group is out with the annual list ofis to that parents may want to avoid a look at what is included in the trouble in thailand report. >> and president obama will award 21 people this afternoon the medal of freedom. find out which well-known talk show host forgot the id and was delayed into the white house. you know, you can't kind of walk in there. >> and there is some security there. >> yeah. >> and okay, light go to the forecast. >> and look at the satellite and radar. we have rain and snow out in the eastern plains and wrapped up here in the denver area. we'll see that clear out throughout the afternoon and
