jennifer otes with the colorado department of education says this is important. >> school buses that are sold in colorado for our students have an extra safety measure to ensure that the frame of the school bus stays intact. >> reporter: that was in place in 1989 when this boulder valley school bus crashed believed due to brake failure. one student was killed but you can see while the frame the value of seat belts on the school buses has been hotly debated. higher seats placed closer together serve as compartmentalization. >> that is deemed safer than the seat belts. >> reporter: we asked the opinion of those who ride the buses. >> i do think they should have seat belt belts. the seat belts could be a

,, >> a massive 56 car pile up left several dead. >> and dozens more injured. this is the news around the world at 6:41. check out the drone footage. one driver said he tried to slow down to avoid the initial accident. o look at all the trucks involved. firefighters actually split up to put out flames at the front of the pileup while others searches for people who needed rescuing. the u.s. state department is warning americans to be extra careful if you are traveling to europe for the holidays. it comes a day after french authorities thwarted a terror plot linked to isis. the warning specifically

dying down as the skies are clearing rapidly. here is where the system is already with snow, rain, a few thunderstorms embedded in this as well. it is all moving into the upper midwest. so yes, this is really a quick mover. we had some rain and snow this morning already gone out of the state. but what we are watching is the cold front that has come through, that chilled us. now we are going to warm up once again. this system has rain and snow along with it. and it is headed for colorado. so let's go back to lauren whitney in the colorado weather does. >> until then tomorrow, we are look at a nice day for us. clear, sunny, a little warmer than today. then tomorrow evening we will start this at 7:00. start to get rain to roll in. if you are waking up really early and you can't get to grandma's house, we have the snow early in the morning. a little snow in the high country. the front range eastern plains. we will be on the dry side.

sunshine, skiing on thanksgiving, should be a nice day. and we have a really nice afternoon so you can eat a nice meal and relax and enjoy the nice afternoon. and overnight, if you are black friday shopping, should be a nice night. it will be cold though if you are headed in for the early morning deals and friday should be a nice day for us as well. this is a quick moving system that will roll on through. it doesn't bring a ton of snow. but we will take what we can get for the see resort. most areas three to five inches of snow. and thanksgiving for the denver out. sunshine, cold start it is day thanksgiving and we get to the mid 40s . might be windy out there as well. ed? normal, 49 and 22. so, a little below normal today. 74 in 1998. 39, 35 right now. north wind at 8, 72% humidity. winter park is grooming the slopes because they open up tomorrow.

>> a mother sentenced to ten years in prison prison. matt kroschel starts our reporter brief. >> reporter: we tracked down the mother of two toddlers who were killed in 2012 when they were left inside an suv on the western slope. the heater turned on, their mother, heather jensen was in another vehicle having sex with a man and doing drugs. both of those boys died. she was charged, convicted, and sent to prison for more than ten years.

and, in community service. >> reporter: i'm kelly werthmann in fort collins where police are investigating a stabbing that left a man dead. the man was trying to stop a fight between strunk and a woman. jeremy keltne re livers close by and was trying to help the victim before the officers arrived. he took this video showing the suspect before drugs may have been involved. the victim's name has not yet been released. residents here in highlands ranch say they want to stop the noise. a neighbor coalition filed an injunction to stop construction on a proposed expansion of c470 and the reason is the nose. they say the noise is bringing down their property values. cdot says they followed all the rules and regulations and they show the barriers are needed.
