>> developing now, at 10:00, a murder mystery. at 13th and marion in denver's capitol hill neighborhood. we told you about the investigation at 10:00 last night. video from the scene shows a car abandoned in the middle of the road with a shattered window and a flat tire. karen morfitt has been working to get more information about what happened. and karen, investigators have yet to release information about the suspect or the victim. >> reporter: right now, all po an adult male and despite there being several surveillance cameras overlooking the scene, they don't have any good suspect information ready to release to the public. this busy intersection turned into a bizarre crime scene on tuesday night. >> a car for a possible stabbing on a male bleeding. >> reporter: police responded and found the vehicle in the middle of the road near the intersection of 13th and marion. the driver side window was

back left tires were flat. >> the windshield was broken. >> reporter: jeremy robbins was at work when noticed the response from the police. >> we saw the lights and then they came in and asked about it. he was here eating that night. >> reporter: the suspicious incident turned into a homicide after the victim was transported and died at the hospital. while police have not identified him, those working in the area believe it was an older man. re may have been trying to help someone. >> sounds like he was tricked into doing it. someone was asking for help and he went to help out. and yeah. it just all went down. >> reporter: investigators were on scene for hours collecting e and reviewing video from surveillance cameras though know suspect or mote i has been identified. >> it is incredibly sad. he's a sweet old man.

>> reporter: i also spoke to the man who was the first to find the victim in his car. -said when he arrived there was no one else on scene and there were no other suspicious vehicles in the area. live in denver, karen morfitt, cbs4 news. right now, a mild night in denver, but a fast moving storm is making its way through our state bringing snow to the mountains. meteorologist lauren whitney is tracking that storm in colorado's weather any holiday travel problems? >> i think if you are driving early tomorrow morning or late night tonight, that will be something to watch out for, we already have snow in parts of the state moving to the north western corner. a little in the high elevations. you can see along parts of i-70 from grand junction, getting closer to the vail area, rain and snow. snow going all the way up into parts of moffet county. we have this front working

it is mainly wrapped up. if you are leaving early tomorrow morning know it will be a liting icy and we are looking at snowy conditions lingering in high elevations near vail pass. out in the elements we have chris spears in the mobile weather lab. chris, where are you at right now? >> reporter: well, we came up to rabbit ears pass and found the snow. we ran into a wall of snow. down. the road here, speeds are definitely reduced. take a look at this video. we shot this under one hour ago. a really intense snow squall as we made our way up the east side. and we drove the entire length of the pass and i will tell you, the whole thing from west to east is currently icy and snow packed.

hour. this is just the leading edge of the main surge still to come out of utah. we will have the full forecast coming up in just a little bit. >> thank you chris. well, if you have been in the car at all, you know traffic has been a nightmare. from copter 4, you can see all the head and taillights lining i-25. quite the traffic jam out there. stan bush is live along the interstate for us. so stank how is at this hour? >> reporter: it is looking perfect. it will be tough and treacherous. as a record number of travelers try to move across the country. travelers hoping to get out of town needed two things. a padded schedule and a lot of patience. >> feeling fine. we budget enough time. you know. and, this way, we don't have to deal with traffic. >> reporter: security lines were jammed at airports across the country.

year. joclyn snyder expected denver to be worse than the busiest airports in the country. >> i'm not excite today go go through the airport, but i get to see my family. >> reporter: bumper to bumper traffic made rush hour seem like an all-day event. but almost no line waiting for amtrak. >> i get to sleep overnight on the train and arrive in the morning. >> reporter: charlie bush says her trip to burlington, iowa will be long but stress free >> if there is a storm, my train is getting back, their planes are not. >> reporter: the trip home, the sunday after thanksgiving is also another one of the worst travel days of the year. so, whether you are at the airport or on the road, most travelers have another miss in front of them. live in denver, stan bush, cbs4 news. >> thanks stan. happy ending tonight, two teenagers who disappeared in the mountains earlier this week have been rescued. local high school students matt smith and tommy hendricks

that was monday evening. when their families did not hear from them tuesday, they called for help. after a two day search, a helicopter spotted the teams this afternoon. they got lost in a white out. >> they hit the summit 7:00 p.m. monday night. storms came in. and they were trapped by the storms. thankfully, they had equipment and experience enough that they were able to take pretty good care of themselves. >> the teenagers were found at an elevation of 12,000 feet. they were taken to the with minor injuries. now the latest on dangerous chemicals removed from a home in castle rock. police arrested a teenager who lived there. a special team of investigators went back to the home to finish the cleanup. eight neighboring homes had to be evacuated again. >> you don't like to hear something like that. not knowing that it was going on, i guess is the big thing.

>> reporter: some of the chemicals were immediately removed on halloween, some were taken out. the contract the family was required to hire. but the latest were left to the bomb squad. developing tonight, a gruesome and violent attack. a man is stabbed. then, set on fire. investigators are hoping this video will help them to get that attacker off the street. our jeff todd reporting in from adams county. jeff, we know this than is homeless, but a lot of people care about him. >> rt talking to people at this liquor store all day who said he basically lived in the shopping center for years. now, check out the marks on the building. this is where he was asleep, soot in the building. this is a sign of someone who tried to kill him. >> never bothered nobody. he wasn't a violent person. like i said, he was homeless and unfortunate. >> reporter: regulars around the shopping center say they know the man who was attacked. >> never asked anybody for nothing. he would sit there and mind his own business.

knew him around here. so, he took it pretty hard. >> reporter: surveillance video captured the whole thing. on the night of november 6, the suspect came up and doused matthew in some kind of flammable liquid. then started stabbing him. >> during the stabbing he actually put the victim out by his actions and then, afterwards, he poured some of the trash, there was a trash can next to him. the trash contents were also on firement he took some of the trash and put it on to reignite him. >> reporter: a heinous act many people are having trouble coping with. >> it is pretty awful to see the video. i have to tell you. and what we saw in the video, nobody should have to endure that. >> reporter: now police are hoping someone recognizes this man. and the best clue may be this sweatshirt that says cross fit reebok. >> i hope they catch him. >> it is sad what happened. >> i pray for him.

>> reporter: that suspect is described as five foot ten to six feet tall. anyone with information should call the adams county sheriff's office. reporting live tonight, jeff todd, cbs4 news. >> thanks jeff. new tonight, fire forces the evacuation of a popular denver restaurant. fire started in the kitchen at the cherry cricket. everyone had to get out including a couple on their first date. >> we had already ordered and te little smoky inside. didn't notice too much until people started to leave. >> crews had the fire out within 20 minutes of getting to the restaurant. we are told no one was hurt. >> i should have known better. >> reporter: when jeff tried to call her back to the trail, stella didn't listen. then he heard his dog yelping. >> next thing i know she runs down the hill and behind her a foot or two was a big mountain lion. >> reporter: the big cat upwards of 250 pounds came within feet of jeff as stella hid behind her owner. >> we looked eye to eye and he was growling. deep, deep growl. and, showed >> reporter: using a big tree branch, jeff says he was eventually able to scare the lion off. >> i think it could have easily taken both of us if it wanted to. >> reporter: only, noticing when he got home that his dog was hurt. >> on one side, she has a deep puncture wound. >> reporter: luckily, stella only needed a few stitches and will be okay. her owner says the scary experience taught him an important lesson. >> the lesson is to have your dog on a leash. i'm 100% sure that if she had

walked along the trail and nothing would have happened. we are happy to be alive. >> reporter: kelly werthmann, cbs4 news. >> yeah, there are some cameras in the open space and trails where jeff and stella was. one camera caught this picture of what could be the mountain lion they ran into. picture of a bull moose lighting up social media. the moose appear to have the antlers of an elk. the photo was taken by a professional photographer in the arapahoe national forest. >> been maine. been here since 1994. i have never seen anything like this. >> it is rare, they have seen similar antlers and other bulls over the years. but a moose and elk breeding is unlikely. the unique antlers may be due to genetics. donald trump injecting the first diversity into his cabinet to be. south carolina governor nikki

united nations. haley sharply criticized him during the campaign. now she calls him a friend. her parents immigrated from india. trump also named republican betsy devos to lead the department of education. she is new to government, but has spent years trying to change education. she is a strong advocate of voucher programs and charter schools. a sad new development after monday's bus crash in today. police announced the driver did not have any drugs or alcohol in his system when he went off the road and smashed into a tree. that driver is now in jail facing vehicular homicide charges. >> a fugitive is in custody after trying to run away from police by hiding in the trunk of a car. it all started when the officer in idaho pulled over a car belonging to the wanted man. suspects' mother was driving. the officer got suspicious, called for backup. that is when the trunk popped

armed with a gun. a toy gun. the officer wrestled him to the ground. >> there is only a split second to deal with that threat. and that threat was clear and present. that officer could have used deadly force. >> 22-year-old suspect had previously been arrested for obstructing officers and malicious injury. he was wanted for failure to appear in court. new video of yet another firey explosion involving an e- cigarette. witnesses say it looked like a bomb went off in this pants. the man was working in the store. in new york city's grand central terminal. the man went to the hospital. but his coworkers say he will be okay. happening now, safety concerns in south lake tahoe, california after a man was caught tampering with food at a grocery store. we see the surveillance video showing the man pouring a substance on ready made food. investigators are still trying to figure out exactly what it was. but they say it left a white foam on the food. now, police in the area are

what they eat until that man is caught. some snow in the mountains tonight. but what's the forecast for the rest of the holiday? >> all right, ed, we want answers. >> and that big holiday is coming our way. here comes the snow. look at it start to fill up in the north western portion of our state. you see ahead of it, we have mostly clear skies. clear skies downtown in denver. cool air will come on with it. we will see temperatures just tempered a little bit. here is the system we had yesterday. that is off to the east. and believe it another one pushing into the pacific northwest right now. let's see how this plays out on our hour by hour forecast. here is the snow up there in the northwest. and by 2:00 a.m., really it fills in, in the mountains but it slowly just dies down. so, here is thanksgiving day. nothing on doppler 4,000. i will roll it into the black friday shopping day. nothing on doppler 4,000 as well. so, for the first couple of days of the holiday weekend, things look pretty darn good. let's go to lauren whitney in the colorado weather center.

mountains. >> if you are traveling late night tonight and early tomorrow morning there will be snow pack conditions. we saw chris spears on rabbit ears pass looking pretty dicey. just be cautious. we have winter weather advisories in the high country. some of the front range mountains in the tunnels, anywhere from three to six inches. and, this is in place starting at 11:00 tonight. so, in 40 minutes. and, we have this go through 6:00 a.m. so the snow wraps up very quickly and most of it stays in the north wester central mountains. not too much heads down in the south western corner. we are not looking at anything for us. it will not cross the mountains. tomorrow, it will be cooler than today thanks to the front also coming through. so we drop down to 48 degrees tomorrow. and our overnight lows into black friday shopping time, 23 degrees. if you don't want to avoid all of that, it will be nice to snug up a little tighter. it will be cold tomorrow.

lows this morning 23 and 27. fairly close to normal this time of year. 73 and four below are the records. 32 and 34 now. 73% humidity. we have the rising barometer. winter park opened up today. they are in full swing. and, look at the snow they got down in telluride. this is ryan bono, a very dramatic picture. this is the great sand dunes national park. and that's a beautiful shot. and then, a nice one from rod, evening. temperatures for tonight, mostly in the 20s , a few 30s over the eastern plains. teens for the mountains. out west, temperatures in the 20s and the 30s . tomorrow, pretty much like today. we will see 40s and 50s over the eastern plains. 30s for the mountains. out west, temperature ins the 30s and the 40s . here is your forecast. for tonight, we will see clear skies in denver, 25 and 24 the lows. tomorrow, fair and breezy. and about normal this time of the year. 48 and 47.
