f0 hi, everybody. good to have you with us on this day after thanksgiving. we hope you had a wonderful one with your family. this is black friday, november 25th. i'm alan gionet. one of tv's most famous mothers has pa as carol brady from the brady brunch died last night in a hospital in los angeles. henderson's manager said she had suffered from hater failure. here's a look back on the life of the 82-year-old actress. ? here's the story of a lovely lady ? who was bringing up three very lovely girls ? >> reporter: florence henderson cemented her mark as one of america's favorite moms when

brady on "the brady brunch." >> jan, you're not in anybody's shadow. >> reporter: the seemingly ever cheerful mother got her start on broadway. but it was the sitcom about a blended family that propeled her to stardom. >> it represents what every child wishes they had, a loving family, and the kids get along. i think you teach them how to your parents, respect your teachers, you respect your elders. >> reporter: henderson played the single mother of three daughters who married a widowed father with three sons. the show depicted the joys and pitfalls of merging two families. starting in 1969, it lasted for five seasons. >> i can't tell you how many young parents tell me that their kids watch the show

as we zoom out and take a look at the state-wide view, mountain areas getting off to a cold start. gunnison 9. leadville 6. aspen is 8. alamosa is 4. bundle up in the colorado high country. one of the reasons why it is so cold in the mountains, especially mountain valleys, because we have clear skies and light winds, combination for a cold morning. but the opposite will be true this afternoon with the clear skies we'll warm up nicely. by 9:00 a.m. we'll be just above by noon, 55. that's warmer than we were all day yesterday. 49 for our high on thanksgiving. a high temperature today of 60. again, doesn't look bad at all for this friday. we're going to check the weekend forecast, including the outlook for sunday's broncos' game. let's check in with joel, he's here -- joe, he's here for joel. >> reporter: no construction today, so the highways are

to the malls this morning, that will be a very nice drive at i- 25 and arapahoe. i'll be taking you through the malls throughout the morning. but so far to start the morning we're accident and stall-free. >> been over the river and through the woods already. joe, thanks a lot. investigators are still working a sexual assault case in fort collins that ended with a police chase. we have learned the suspect had been in prison previously for a violent attack, but had been released early. jeff todd has the latest. >> reporter: fort collins police were called to this shopping center near the busy intersection of harmony road and college avenue. >> the suspect later identified as jessie freas threatened the female victim with a knife. >> reporter: when police arrived, the suspect took off. >> police officers followed the

attempted to hit several patrol vehicles. >> reporter: he crashed and fled into this neighborhood. >> he fled on foot. he was apprehended a short time later. we're always grateful when no officers or suspects are injured. >> reporter: records show he was arrested in 1997 for stabbing a convenience store clerk and stealing monday. online reports indicate he was released of a 32-year sentence. he's now facing a parole violation and several felonies. >> second quarter assault and vehicular eluding. >> it's likely there will be a court hearing this morning. jail records indicate he will not be able to bond out. the government wants your apps locked while you drive. the first shopping numbers are now in.

we're going to jill wagner live from the floor of the new york stock exchange. hope that thanksgiving was good. >> reporter: it was. a little too good. hard to get up this morning. good morning. the markets have reopened after the thanksgiving holiday. record high territory again. dow rose 59, nasdaq fell 5. markets only open for a half day today. now futures pointing to a higher open. the government wants smartphone makers to when users are driving. a lot of people have already started holiday shopping and did it online. according to early numbers, thanksgiving day throughout $1.15 billion in online sales. that is 14% more than last year. and shoppers could support the

patagonia is giving parts of its proceeds to -- deadly crash killed a teenager early yesterday morning at i-25 and highway 7. police suspect the man driving the suv was drunk when he hit a car with two teenagers inside. you can see the crash. 16-year-old driver was seriously injured. alleged drunk driver will be arrested once released from the hospital. the family has a gofundme page to help pay for the funeral. it's already raised $7,800. man in aurora has lost a son and wife after a fire last week. andrea flores spoke to the man who tells her he still has a

>> because it happened so fast. within minutes my whole world turned around. >> reporter: last thursday a fire tore through the vargas family's house. his wife was in the shower. >> immediately when you open the door, that smoke, it was so thick, you couldn't see walls or anything. but i have to get in, i kept yelling for her and yelling for her. it wasn't going ap get to her, his son gabriel went back in. >> he went back in. >> reporter: his wife didn't make it out. >> my wife is 4'7", but biggest heart in the world. >> reporter: gabriel was left in critical condition. he was taken off life support over the weekend. >> he would tell his mother so many times, i'd die for you,

black friday shopping later this morning. in an effort to get more people to opt outside, all 42 state parks have free admission today. colorado is one of 22 states that will waive fees for visitors to enjoy a day at the park so you can get away from black friday shopping if you want to do that. looks great. if you have a fridge full of thanksgiving leftovers, you may want to toss some of it in the trash. the foods that

leftovers, beware. not all your favorites may be safe to heat. a dietician says is don't save the rice. when it cools at room temperature bacteria can grow rapidly. >> that bacteria is resistant to heat. it's still going to be there. >> reporter: another staple to toss, potatoes cooked in aluminum foil. >> letting it cool into that temperature danger zone and also keeping the foil on it, breeding ground. you may not heat it sufficiently to kill the bacteria. >> reporter: foods with a high moisture content like stuffing should also be thrown away. when it comes to poultry, reheat it to the proper internal temperature to avoid bacteria and don't store the whole bird. >> that's setting up the situation for bacterial growth. cut it up into smaller portions, store within about two hours.

little while. i want to show you their web cam. we're going to keep it quiet in the mountains for today and tonight. and then tomorrow night, saturday night into sunday, we're going to see snow back in the colorado high country and then a rather snowy pattern will continue in the mountains going into really next week and probably through the end of the month and first couple of days of december. temperatures are cold everywhere from the western slopes to eastern plains. teens and 20s most areas. a leadville at 6. aspen is at 8. later on today we'll see highs in the 40s for mountain towns. of course it will be colder than that at the top of the lift. along the front range we'll see upper 50s, close to 60 for high temperatures. and similar conditions on the eastern plains. mostly sunny skies will be found throughout colorado today. the west coast, rain and snow in northern california today. rain up into the pacific northwest as well. and this is the storm system that will bring snow back to

the end of this extended weekend. high pressure will keep it dry today, tonight and tomorrow. futurecast will go from 9:00 a.m. today all the way through 9:00 p.m. on saturday. notice just a few snowflakes starting in the san juan mountains. then saturday night into sunday, that's all snow, including along the i-70 corridor in the mountains. it all stays to the west of denver. by 6:00 p.m. just before kickoff sunday, we'll be dry. little cooler around here, th lower 60s the next couple of days. next week, joe, get ready, coldest weather we've had so far this season. high temperatures in the 30s starting tuesday and that will likely continue into the beginning of december. >> reporter: yeah, not really looking that much forward to the cold, but i guess we have to do it because it is colorado. i-70 and central park, no major accidents or stalls to report on the highways this morning. just a little bit of slow traffic as we take a look at

westbound 6th on the approach to federal. but we'll zoom into park meadows. as you can see, it's looking good in the highways around park meadow, of course just patience around park meadows center drive. >> joe, thanks a lot. a 7-year-old from uganda is leaving a denver hospital with a fully functioning heart. at the end of october she had a life saving operation, her second one there little deborah was born with a complicated heart defect. it could not be fixed in uganda. so in 2001, samaritan's purse paid for her to have surgery. >> they were just waiting for her to die.

done to save her life. >> it's such a great feeling to give that to somebody and see how it affects their lives and how happy we can make them. >> deborah and her mother expect to travel back to uganda by the middle of december. two colorado springs teenagers are recovering, rescued wednesday from the top of the mount of the holy cross in eagle county. in a story you'll only see on cbs4, the two spoke with our rick salinger about what happened in that's known somes triangle of the rockies. >> reporter: tommy hendricks on the left, and matt smith spent two treacherous nights on a frigid peak with only rocks to provide protection. >> i'd get cold from the snow and what not. i'd put my head under the jacket and i have to smell his feet. >> religious snuggling up next to each other. we needed that body heat to

did. >> did you ever think it wouldn't turn out that way? >> absolutely not. fear is the epitome of doubt. >> we prayed to god. he was definitely with us during the whole climb. probably the only thing keeping us alive and our ability to know we'd get back down safely. >> reporter: helicopters pulled the teens from the mountain after spotting their tracks. >> i was thankful, because i really wanted to see for thanksgiving. i didn't want to be hiking and eating cold rocks for thanksgiving. i was pretty happy. >> when that chopper saw us, it was a moment of pure joy in our heart. we knew we were going to get out of there, we were going to be okay. >> reporter: after they were rescued they were taken by ambulance to treatment first in vail before being transported to the denver area. the two are in the burn unit of this hospital because it's one of the few in the country that

frostbite. in aurora, rick salinger, cbs4 news. broncos are back at it at mile high sunday night versus the chiefs. here's mark haas with your morning sports. >> hope you had a great thanksgiving. a good time to get family and friends back together. that's what the broncos' defense is doing this week. team had a quick indoors practice yesterday morning before getting the rest of the day off. with the return talib and derek wolf, their defense is back at basically full strength. they can start the same 11 that they started in weeks one and two. wolfe missed one game, but he said sitting just one out wasn't good. >> i like playing it. standing on the sidelines is miserable anyways. standing there for three hours isn't fun. you have to watch your team go out there and grind.
