that driver has been detained. authorities say, and may be soon facing charges. here is video taken from copter 4 earlier this afternoon. we saw what appears to be that trooper's body in the northbound lane of i-25. it is near a black sedan crashed up at the outside lane guardrail. this happened around 1:30 p.m. just south of castle rock between plum creek parkway and toma road. it showed a u.s. foods truck just north of where the trooper was hit. the loss heavily on the members of the colorado state patrol two lost trooper jamie jersavic over a year ago as she was investigating the same stretch. >> this is a calling. this is something we feel very compelled to do. something we will continue to do. we will mourn, absolutely. we will mourn as a family. we will mourn with the blood family of our trooper and with the blue family. this is not just our agency.

>> cody was a really good kid. a good family man. had two beautiful children. has two beautiful children and will be sorely missed. >> reporter: so, definitely as you heard, just really weighing heavily on their heart to night. deputies are investigating right now to determine what exactly caused this crash. as you heard earlier, charges for that driver may be forthcoming this evening. and for people who are driving on i-25 tonight. northbound i-25 remains closed between larkspur and castle rock. trooper donahue leaves behind two children and his wait wife. we will have much more at 10:00. melissa garcia, cbs4 news. and we have more breaking news right now as police catch at least one murder system in denver. you can see the scene at eighth

our jeff todd is on the scene gathering more information. jeff, what do you have? >> reporter: jim, still, a very active scene. take a look. this is where denver police use the holiday in an unpopulated commercial part of town to do a maneuver. the suspects were in that black car right there. they are now in the hospital. we believe the chase started as a car was set on fire in the area of bayaud and tehon. they picked up th a short chase went through some neighborhoods west of federal. the suspect hit one car in the neighborhood and then the chase continued to the east side of federal. police executed this maneuver to stop the car. the suspects are wanted for a homicide case yesterday morning in aurora. we don't know much about the case other than the fact a man died from a gunshot wound. aurora police say they are hoping to release more information on who these suspects are, but they cannot

but denver police told us that their injuries are not life threatening. we will have much more on this story coming up on the cbs4 news at 10:00. live in denver, jeff todd, cbs4 news. >> thank you jeff. happening now, a candle light vigil has begun for the victims of a suspected drunk driving crash. 19-year-old kyle and his friend, he was killed. his friend, 16-year-old nash rider has life threatening injuries. their vehicle was hit by a wrongway driver on i-25 n that was yesterday morning. troopers believe that wrongway driver was drunk. cbs4's dillon thomas is checking in live tonight from windsor high school where the civil is taking police. >> reporter: tonight, the tight knit community of windsor has gathered here to pay respects to a student who lost his life. tonight, they are packed onto the football field to pay their

scripture reading. 19-year-old kyle nakos was killed thanksgiving morning on i-25 when a drunk driver drove the wrong way and struck his subaru. his car was crushed and a passenger in his car was identified as 16-year-old nash rider. he remains in the hospital tonight. we updated with stable condition injuries. as for the drunk driver, 25- year-old alex rodriguez, he was transported to the hospital and has since been released. we have details he is in homicide charges and he had an open bottle of alcohol inside the car. friends of nako say he was incredibly popular here at windsor high. >> we heard nash has two broken legs. swelling from the brain, bleeding from the abdomen. and kyle didn't make it. i read the text three times to make sure it said what it said.

>> reporter: they were both down at a concert late on wednesday night when they were on their way back. that is when the crash happened i. the concert they are at, the artist has sent out a tweet for a link to a go fund me page for funeral costs. dillon thomas, cbs4 news. >> add night dillon, thank you. we have an update on the retrial of lester jones. he is biergfeld. this came after the jury in the first trial could not get to an unanimous verdict. a woman in aurora, the victim of a possible hate crime after someone spray painted kkk and other racial slurs on her front door. cbs4's andrea flores is checking in live from the aurora police headquarters.

>> reporter: well, that's right jim. aurora police are investigating what many in the community are calling a disturbing hate crime. but what police haven't figured out yet is why this woman and her teenage daughter were the targets. >> opened up the front door. noticed someone had spray painted three ks on my front door. >> reporter: ari and her teenage daughter were at home tuesday notified them of disturbing news. racial slurs on the door. >> they put a note on the door that said watch your back, kkk. >> reporter: it happened in this unsecure apartment complex. the local naacp chapter is standing by ari's side. >> people are bolder with this political climate. they think they can say and do anything. and we are not going to

the threat is more than skin deep. >> this is not just an issue of black poor white. enough to bother any of us with any sense of decurrency. >> reporter: aurora pd says the investigation is at the top of their list. >> it is targeted to the community and it creates fear within the community as a whole. we will pull out all the stops. >> reporter: while ari says she no longer feels safe, she has a strong message to and your behavior is not acceptable. your behavior will not be tolerated. if and when they do find the people responsible, i want them prosecuted to the full extent of the law. >> reporter: aurora pd tells us they are investigating all leads and they are asking anyone with information to come forward. they also say if you are the victim of a bias motivated crime, not to hesitate and to give 911 a call. they want to get that

possible. reporting live in aurora, andrea flores, cbs4 news. now the latest after a fire of a popular restaurant. the cherry cricket will be closed indefinitely. the fire got going in the restaurant's kitchen wednesday night. some of the stoves and kitchen equipment are total loss. no one was hurt. there is no time line yet for when that restaurant will reopen. well t broncos are back on the field after a very welcome week off coming up sunday night against the chiefs at mile high. mark haas joins us now. i guess you could call this a game. >> i think you could. broncos have no room for error if they want to win the west. talk in the broncos locker room is the playoffs basically start sunday against the chiefs. broncos currently in a tie for second in the very crowded afc west, but with two division losses already, they are

>> it is 6:3 now, we continue to follow our breaking news. a colorado state trooper is killed today investigating a crash on i-25 just south castle rock. all northbound lanes of the interstate remain closed for the investigation between tomo road and plum creek parkway. this is a live look at the interstate just south of the closure in larkspur. you can see, traffic still at a standstill. investigators say trooper cody donahue, a father of two, was hit by a commercial truck around 2:00 this afternoon. we did see that u.s. foods truck pulled over near the crash scene.

they do expect charges to be filed tonight. i-25 northbound could stay closed. well into this evening. the latest on the roundup of a group of wild horses near craig. turns out the animals have been slow to take the bait. 26 horses have been captured so far. now, typically, you have seen the video. helicopters are used to help corral the horses as we saw during this roundup in south wen well, this year is the first time the blm is using a bait trapping method. ten of the captures horses will be to an adoption program, the rest will be released after five get an anti-fertility vaccine. and some will no doubt be catching up on their sleep after waking up early to shop this black friday.
