of another government shutdown even after we have a new president. presidential candidates, senators ted cruz and rand paul, led the opposition against the bill this morning. an unusually high number of small town elections will have no names on the ballots on tuesday. dubuque county auditor denise dolan says a change in state law means candidates now file their paper work at their county auditor's office instead of with their city clerk. that meant some candidates missed the filing deadline. holy cross, for example, has three vacant city council seats, and no names on the ballot. but city leaders say at least two people are running as write-ins. dolan says calculating those write in votes will mean more work on election night. "and then they start going through the ballots and they have to start keeping track of who's who and how many votes and it always delays us getting the returns out. " dolan plans to urge state lawmakers to change the

law back to the way it was. she says it make more sense for candidates to file paperwork with city clerks. a children's cd produced by a university of iowa professor for the iowa city public library is causing controversy. one song on the cd contains these lyrics.. - show lyrics fullscreen. how their day is going." tv9 did reach out to the producer of the song. our calls were not returned. the clayton county board of supervisors asked the iowa attorney general's office to weigh in on its auditor situation. that's according to radio station kctn. clayton county auditor dennis frietag has been working from home for months now, while he takes care of his sick wife, pam. since then, board members say he's fallen behind in completing financial documents and turning them into the right people. on monday, the board questioned freitag about falling behind on his work. he said that he's been caring for his wife, and they should be questioning his chief deputy auditor. kctn says on wednesday, the board met to talk about their options with freitag. one of them included filing a chapter 66 petition which includes asking attorney general tom miller's office to investigate into the situation and make a

this cedar rapids man has pleaded guilty to lascivious acts with a child for sexually abusing a 13- year-old girl in 2013. 44 year old troy davenport admitted to fondling or touching the girl. the charge carries a sentence of up to 10 years in prison. but a plea agreement says the state will recommend a suspended sentence and probation. davenport has already been in jail for two years pending trial. the judge has not set a date for sentencing. in a tv-9 follow-up this morning.. prosecutors are charging an arlington man for colliding with a school bus near manchester earlier this month. police have charged 41 year old monte klink with serious injury by vehicle and second offense o-w-i. the state patrol says klink didn't yield at the intersection of 195th street and 200th avenue, three miles north of manchester. his s-u-v hit a west delaware school bus carrying 32 students. the bus rolled over, and all the students had to go to the manchester

hospital for evaluation before they went home with their parents. no one had life threatening injuries. the new university of iowa president - bruce harreld - starts his job on monday. state regents and the university of iowa spent at least 308-thousand dollars in the presidential search. that includes a 200-thousand dollar service charge to parker executive search, the firm regents used for the search. other expenses - which include advertising for the position - have reached more than 108- thousand dollars. the regents and the university say the numbers aren't final, as more expenses could come in. the regents chose harreld - a businessman - to replace sally mason. since then, several student and faculty groups have expressed concern over the selection, saying the three other finalists in the search are more qualified for position. iowa city police are warning parents, trick-or-treaters, and football fans to be careful this weekend. that's because trick-or-treaters will hit the street, around the same time the iowa hawkeye football game ends.

iowa city police say they plan to have extra officers focusing on this part of town around that time. about 65 to 70 thousand people are expected to be at the game. university heights actually moved their trick-or-treat date to tonight to avoid this situation. the game time wasn't announced by the big ten conference until october 19th. police say they have concerns as alcohol might be a factor for some fans. they say if you live in this area, consider trick-or- treating somewhere else for the night. "if kids are staying off the roadway and are trick or treating at the houses, that's not where the real risk is, it's when you start to get close to the roadway, so we just want to make sure people are understanding that that's what they're going to be getting into, kids shouldn't be put out there by themselves to be making the decision about when to cross, especially in the are of the stadium." sticking to the halloween theme, the university also put out a list of banned costumes at kinnick. they say don't bring prop weapons, and don't dress like a police officer, referee or a look like a player on the field.

been coming to get a boo ritto. that's after countless incidents, recounted by the staff. plates falling. glasses breaking. one kitchen worker says she was pushed down the stairs. "i was second or third from the bottom. just like hands on my lower back, i stumbled down the last couple stairs."it gets creepier. late at night between, two and four, something keeps tripping motion sensors in the building setting off the alarm and alerting police and management. "there will be a month that i'll get four maybe five, then it will go a month or so and i don't get anything."noth ing is ever found. except once, when security footage showed this camera in the office, shaking. "about like that. yeah and i'm pushing really hard." paranormal proponents seem to think it's a pint sized poltergeist. story goes a little girl died on the property long before it became a restaurant. "used to be a little fair ground and everything out here. there was a little girl, 10, 12, 13, that was on the ferris wheel fell off and died."

small amusement park called cemar acres used to sit her. they did have a ferris wheel. the said it was likely someone may have fallen, uncertain about any deaths. moving to central city. circle of ash is making its new home at the linn county fairgrounds. the owner says their old facility cost too much, and wasn't big enough. they're closed this season, but plan to reopen september of next year. investigators arrive on scene this morning at a florida airport after a plane caught fire. hundreds of people ran to safety, but this situation could've been much worse. the search for a man in kentucky is now over this morning after he shot a tennessee police officer. it ended in a deadly shoot out. but right now, here's a look at today's opening farm markets. good morning!

lauderdale, as more than a hundred passengers scramble to escape a burning plane. a team of n-t-s-b investigators will arrive on scene this morning to figure out what led to the incident that nearly became a disaster. abc's bazi kanani brings us the latest. the panicked moments just before takeoff. "alarms.... engine's on fire! engine's on fire!" passengers sliding down the burning planes evacuation chutes... then running to safety. i heard a loud bang, turned around saw the lights, saw flames... ran to the fron of the aircraft.

the dynamic airways jet is taxiing for departure to venezuela. another pilot on the tarmac... spots the problem. other pilot: dynamic is, out of the left engine , it looks like it's leaking a lot of? i don't know if it's fuel, it's fluid leaking out of the left engine. tower: okay dynamic, 4058, do you copy? pilot: uh, yes sir, we copy. we'll probably need to go back, to the, um ramp. but just 10 seconds later... the fuel ignites. i heard a bump and heard screaming running to front. it's flames all over. within three minutes, all 101 on board are off the jet. in another minute... the largest flames... knocked down. "all passengers are off the aircraft and the engine fire is out" at least 21 passengers are hurt, mostly from bumps or falls during evacuation. airport officials tout their quick response... as the ntsb and faa investigate this extremely close call. we averted a disaster today.

everything worked as is planned and is supposed to work. ==bazi on camera tag== airline officials say the boeing 7-6-7 was last inspected in june and had a brand new engine. they also credit the 9 crewmembers on board for a successful evacuation. poli in kentucky shot and killed a man early this morning accused of shooting a tennessee police officer and firing at a kentucky trooper. authorities say they've been looking for 62 year old floyd ray cook for almost a week. kentucky state police say law enforcement shot and killed him. no officers were hurt. he was convicted of rape in the 1970s. cook was wanted in marion county, kentucky, for failing to comply with the sex offender registry. now for a quick check on your weather with meteorologist kaj o'mara. stay with tv9. it's . now, one last look at this
