where bullets hit a car and a house. police responded to a car crash near vinton and courtland streets late yesterday afternoon. that's when they found a car with bullet holes up against a tree. the waterloo- cedar falls courier reports bullets also hit a house nearby. no one was hurt. 3 homicides in 48 hours. authorities in central iowa have responded to three fatal shootings near the des moines area over the weekend. the most recent one was outside a nightclub. polk county authorities are looking for a person who shot and killed a man and hurt 3 others early yesterday. deputies responded to a fight outside evolution nightclub around 2 a.m. that's on the des moines' north side behind the bridgestone plant by interstates 80 and 35. when they arrived, they heard several gunshots. they found 20-year-old dashwan smith with a gunshot wound and took him to the hospital. he later died there. 3 other people also went to the hospital. when this incident occurred what we need is the communities help. police took a 17-year-old into custody on saturday night for the shooting death of a 28-year-old man on friday night. and 42-year-old brendan mcguinness has been charged in waukee for the shooting death of 41- year-old gino risola on saturday morning. this is the first recorded homicide in waukee--a suburb of des moines-- since 1977. in a tv-9 follow-up this morning.. crews are cleaning up railcars in western wisconsin - 32 of them derailed along the mississippi river. at least 5 of the cars were carrying ethanol. the burlington northern santa fe train hopped the tracks outside alma, wisconsin -- that's northwest of la crosse. more than 150 people had to evacuate in the hours after the derailment on saturday. law enforcement says no one was hurt. last winter, there were two major derailments here in the tv-9 viewing area. in february, a canadian pacific train carrying ethanol cars derailed into the

mississippi in dubuque county, near balltown. some of the ethanol drained into nearby soil and water. then, in march, a b-n- s-f oil train derailed near galena, leading to evacuations on the illinois side of the mississippi. investigators said 8 rail cars carrying bakken crude oil went off the tracks. the university of missouri board of curators is set to meet this morning at 10 for a partially closed session. this comes as protests at the university of missouri are amplifying as students ask for the president to resign. 1:15-1:19 i say--power, i say--power, i say--power, i say-power this protest involved several students blocking the president-- timothy wolfe's car. students are protesting the school's handling of racial tensions- specifically wolfe's part in that. this comes after about 30 black football players say they won't practice or play until the president is gone. one student has even gone as far as going on a hunger strike until wolfe is

commissioner the victims include smart iowans being tricked by sophisticated schemes, losing their entire life savings. a retired marion school teacher, jo ennis, was one who never thought she'd fall for a con. but starting back in 2006, scammers took used a ponzi-style investment scheme to grab about 1- million from her after she sold the family farm. the man behind the fraud plead guilty and jo recouped some of her losses. now, her story is being featured in a traveling forum on the dangers of investment fraud. the iowa insurance division is behind the effort, traveling the state and coming to coralville a week from today. " they help me a lot, personally. we learn a lot about issues in communities. we actually opened up cases at these events. we learn what's happening in our communities across the state. it also lets people know that we're there. " the commissioner estimates his office will see 55-hundred to 6- thousand inquires this year. a lot of them will be
