this was around 9:30 last night. it closed off highway 30 eastbound from highway 13 to cedar river drive. 28-year-old michael obrien of belle plaine was driving the semi truck east on highway 30 when he hit her. the sheriff's office is still investigating. strong winds will complicate tornado clean-up in southwest iowa this morning. the national weather service confirmed an ef-1 tornado near avoca . that's a town in pottawattamie county. last night's twister packed winddat about 110 miles per hour. it damaged a grain bin, along with barns and trees on farm. there are no reports of any injuries. in eastern iowa, the storms damaged several out-buildings with farm chinery inside of them. this is a picture from north of wyoming in jones county, courtesy of tim ott. and in iowa city, the storms scattered debris across the road. mathew cover sent us this photo. in knoxville, cleanup begins from some extensive damage.. there are downed trees, power lines and debris all over the road.

fortunately no one was hurt. the knoxville police chief said it was the worst damage from weather he had seen. with the storm slammed her home. against the pipeline, but the board wants to hear a lot of opinions. the bakken oil or the dakota access pipeline would move 570 thousand barrels of oil a day across 18 counties in iowa. it would come from oil fields in north dakota and go to refineries in illinois. kcrg-tv9's brady smith met with a local group of activists who will be at the meeting. ann christenson is one of the founding members of 100 grannies. she'll be at today's hearing before the iowa utilities board. it starts at 9 a-m, and speakers for and against the pipeline will take turns at ththpodium. each person gets 2 minutes to present his or her case. christenson says the pipeline would be disastrous for iowa's wateteways, and there's no way that dakota access - the project developer - is able to guarantee it won't leak. "they're putting our wattrways more at risk, including the mississippi river. if it leaks, and it

will, i don't know what'll happen. i mean, we won't have drinkable water. " christenson says more than 200 people are signed up to speak during today's hearing. but she has doubts that everyone will get a chance at the podium before they run out of time. christenson is the first membbr ofofthe 100 grannies to speak, and she's 8th in line. a white university of missouri at rolla student is expected to be in court today for allegedly posting online threats. authorities say 19-year- old hunter park used the so-called anonymous social media site yik yak to threaten to "shoot every black person" he see. he is now being held on 45-hundred dollars bail

recenttrotests. school leaders in gladbrook-reinbeck are preparing for the school district to dissolve. voters in the area will eventually make the decision. this push comes after the district voted to close the school building in gladbrook. all of those students moved into two schools in reinbeck this fall. kids in kindergarten through 6th grade now go to the elementary school building, and students in 7th through th go to the high school. last night, at the elementary school in reinbeck, a "dissolution commission" met to listen to the responses from neighboring districts. those included north tama, grundy center, dike-new hartford and green mountain- garwin. enrollment has fallen since the building in gladbrook closed. but there's been an uptick in attendance in g-m-g, where the schools are closer than in reinbeck. "51:00 if the majority of the patrons that vote and say 'no' to dissolving, it'll continue to be one whole district and then, as time goes by, there can be conversations with neighboring districts, such as operations sharing of staff.

at local hy-vees, it could be a different story when it comes to fresh, unfrozen, turkey. the turkey stock that was lost, was in ourrrea. local groceries will have to import fresh turkey from further away and there's no guarantee there will be enough to meet orders. that means potentially limited numbers at a likely higher cost. " until they get into our door, it's still a commodity price. we don't know what we're going to be at. we're hearing numbers anywhere from $.40 to $.60 per pound higher cost, just to us. " joyner said he'll have a better idea of how much that will translate to customers as turkey day gets closer. according to some economists, though, thanksgiving turkey prices at the supermarrt are expected to e about 15 percent to 20 percent higher than last year. we'll have to wait and see. so turkeys are available. tv-9's forrest saunders. thank

today, the city of cedar rapids is hoping to get input for improving cedar lake. today it's holding an open house to collect ideas, interests, and desired amenities for the lake. it will start at 5 o'clock this evening and go until 6:30 at the wateeadministration building. this will also be the chance for the community to hear about what friends of cedar lake have in the works already. 468 employees with h ockwell collins are oluntary retiring early. the largest employer in cedar rapids announced the plan in september, with a goal of reducing its overall head count by 500. that's two and a half percent of its workforcee it's makinncuts due to projected slow sales of business jets. to be eligile for the retirement plan, employees had to be at least 60 years old by the end of the year... and must leave by december 18th. they had to sign up for it by monday. those in the eastern part of the country are bracing for severe weather today. the midwet was hit hard yesterday with high winds, tornadoes, and in some parts.. even
